Although Adria seemed pretty happy with the route's performance (averaged about 70% load factor), it wasn't viable whilst they had to keep flying an airframe in from Ljubljana to operate the flights. I believe they operated the route whilst receiving subsidies from Slovenian businesses/tourist organisations (?) as well. Adria did/are exploring a potential base at Maribor to keep their costs down, however this will not happen until at least 2017. There certainly is the demand for Sea Air to tap into, and they could make the flight times more attractive too. However, they will need to focus their advertising at the Slovenian end as they make up the majority of passengers who used the route previously.

Jota's RJ85 arrives
It seems that Jota's latest acquisition has arrived.
According to Planefinder G-JOTR is on finals for 25 as I type.
Let's wish it and Jota every success

This will be the second maintenance company to end its association with Southend in recent months. Not knowing Southend that well, will there be any companies left at the airport that do heavy maintenance of airliners?
In a word - no.
The failure of ATC Lasham a few months ago seems to have been a case of competition from mainland Europe and possibly poor business decisions. In the case of Inflite, again a very competitive market seems to have taken its toll. They will keep their workshop operation at SEN but otherwise I assume they will consolidate hangar work at their main facility at STN.
It's difficult to see what Stobart could have done to prevent both of these closures but then I don't know whether or not they made any effort to assist either company in difficult times. In any event one would think that they are making every effort to find new tenants for the extensive hangar facilities they have on their hands.
The tender process for an FBO to take over from the in-house Stobart operation and to, additionally, build a new FBO/hangarage/maintenance(?) facility on the ex-ATC Lasham site seems ongoing. It's unclear whether the whole ATC complex is being offered or just the hangar and apron to the west of their main hangar.
Jota have said that they want to open a maintenance facility at SEN so they may be looking for outside work when and if that happens.

So the exotic airlines that used to visit Southend for maintenance is coming to an end which is a real shame. Also I think I am correct in saying that Southend could handle larger aircraft in for maintenance than was allowed when carrying passengers?
Not really as the runway is too narrow (36m) for wide-bodied aircraft unless a special dispensation is sought as was for a Tristar and A300 in the distant past. B757s were quite common at ATC Lasham but they can operate from SEN commercially although none ever has. A321s, which cannot operate commercially, have also visited for maintenance and of course B707s were regular visitors for many years.

A correction has been added to the Inflight story in the Echo.
I don't know how many they employ but it appears they are not yet leaving Southend.
This article was corrected on April 6, 2016. It originally claimed jobs were threatened as a result of Inflite leaving Southend, when in fact the business is restructuring its operations at the site. We also wishes to clarify the aircraft in the featured picture do not belong to Inflite.

Sea Air
Website schedule has been updated showing new flight times and frequencies:
Munich now showing 12x weekly (2x daily Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat; 1x daily Thurs, Sun) eff. from 16th May
Osijek showing 1x weekly (Thurs) eff. from 19th May
Times suggest it stops in Munich for a while (perhaps to operate other routes?). Seems like work in progress to me.

With Easyjet operating services from Munich to Luton, Stansted and Gatwick Sea Air will have to get their fares below easyjet if they want to attract more than just the locals living around SEN.
By entering a random date in June the easyjet fare came up from £24.50.

Eight people on board BE6063, so I'm guessing there were just five pax.
Is that normal for that flight? I'm not sure why they don't operate a bit later, 07:15 is a bit too early for the train. The aircraft only does three round trips so it's not as though there is no slack
