well probably having empty seats blocked off didn't help FR either amongst other restrictions which I think are not helpful. WW has had heaps of routes pulled from all over and as BHD was a new base hardly any point pioneering something when IAG's intention is to close the business, I would think all airlines loose money on route/base launches. But I still state, lets say if EZY were based at BHD I think their pax figures would be similar. I do agree BFS is useful for some parts of the province and the roads around it are uncongested, however on the point of their being 3 airports in NI the fact is there is 3 and no government in the near future is likely to propose closing them. There has also been failures at BFS airline wise and as I've always said, the airlines which moved down to BHD did for a reason, if life was so great they wouldn't have. And really, does anyone take seriously the notion that one airline would be allowed a total monopoly in the Republic by having FR and EI as one? Highly doubtful.

Havnt been reading Pprune for a while and after wading through the previous posts I think I`ll leave it until the big announcement is made.

I would love to see the CVs of some of the posters on here, I`m sure the wealth of experience they have in airport and airline management must be impressive.

Capt j - please explain why EI are in big trouble??
Would also like to hear that answer?

Add in to the mix that the profitable routes from BFS to the canaries are not realistic from the City (not to mention the new routes/frequencies from EZY/JET2) and it would seem that EI's wheeling and dealing to get a better deal might end up badly for them.
Have you evidence that the canaries were profitable and if they are so profitable why have Jet2 only added a quarter of the flights that EI offered last winter even though Jet 2 know that its a well established market for EI. I can think of a few factors that point to EI struggling on them last winter.

I seem to remember somebody posting that EZY have yet to add the extra flights to there website and they were announced a while ago.

I would to.

People only point out the negatives about a possible start up from BHO for EI...Anyway we will wait until EI make a statement on the matter and people may be surprised with what it contains.

BHO? A Gas-tly error!

It's always been the way on these threads that any airline operating out of BFS is seen as a fine upstanding money making hero of aviation but the moment they look at a move to BHD they suddenly become somehow desperate and poorly run.
The problem with all this local rivalry is that you miss the big picture. For example, in my own case, i spent almost 10 years working at BHD and still keep in touch with a load of friends from both Airports and travel home about twice a year.
When I first left I usually flew back through LHR to the local airport with the best hire car deal unless there was a big price difference in flights, a bit of a nostalgic preference for City of course. However my last three trips have all been through Dublin for two simple reasons, it's direct and it's cheaper. Heck my next rtn isn't even direct it's via Paris to Dublin with Air France but it was too cheap not to do.
I'm not the only Expat doing this so somebody is making a lot of money off both BFS and BHD users interlining through the mainland!

( I'll also admit to knowing a couple of people at Londonderry too to keep Cuthere happy! )

Looks like RyanAer's a-comin!

News
4-Jul-12 11:28 AM
International Airlines Group (IAG) CEO Willie Walsh said IAG is not interested in acquiring Aer Lingus or the Irish Government’s 25% stake in the carrier (Irish Times, 03-Jul-2012). Mr Walsh also said there was potentially “some merit” to Ryanair's argument it should be allowed to acquire Aer Lingus. Mr Walsh said IAG is focusing on integrating bmi into its operations.

No numbers but I have spoken to someone from Aer Lingus staff who told me that the routes are profitble (if not exactly earth shatteringly so) although they do sell well so the potential to maximise profit should be there. I would suggest that the Jet2 frequencies are more to do with their cautious approach to expansion (especially if EI do surprise everyone and stay where they are)

To play devil's advocate, the same source told me that there are more 319s on the way and that they were considering uprating their (the 319s) engines.

I hold no sway toward either airport, as I said in my post, my personal view was that EI would move to city because they had some promised draw from the heathrow market. Not sure what to make of things now that BA has so publicly commited to the route from BHD using BA metal

A surprising, and commendable, result.

Do BA have self service check-in machines at BHD? Can you use the BMI self service check-in machines?

Also will BA8081 be operated by BA metal or BMI metal?

Thanks

BA8081 is BMI Metal if you look under flight info and timetables under BA's website anything operated by "British Midland International" is BMI metal unless it states British Airways.

On another note someone who has been very bored and hasn't got a life has been on wiki again apparently Flybe will be operating Alicante, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Faro, Malaga, Nice, Palma, Ibiza and Menorca and also the Isles of Scilly SkyBus will operate a seasonal route to Isles od Scilly

david, yes BA8081 is BA metal (ie on their AOC) but any of the BA LHR BHD flights are by ex Bmi aircraft, ie G-DBCH etc... of the few that have been painted?? At least this is what I have witnessed.

So we havent seen examples of the BA ones ie G-EU_ _ series???
