Thank you Mathers for these interesting figures. My posts seem to have stirred up a bit of a "annoying facts about Pembrey" by certain posters. This is a rumour network, but I have found quotes and facts so far to help with my claims. Heres another from this week, from a A.M. .....

"Annoying" Barri ... Narh, only annoying to you perhaps, one won't get me annoyed about anything to do with aviation, been there, done that, had the career dating back to the 1970's, chilling out these days with my own tropical island resort business these days ... How is life in the "lager lout" territory of Ibiza by the way?

Flight BA196 Houston to Heathrow a Boeing 747-400 G-BNLE diverted on emergency to Cardiff believed to be due to instrument problems.

Aircraft landed at 10:43 without incident but was met by the airport fire service on arrival as a precautionary measure.

The engineering team at British Airways Maintenance Cardiff (BAMC) will now be inspecting the aircraft and to repair the technical issue.

Depending on the severity of the issue and the length of time it will take to fix it is believed the aircraft is to continue to Heathrow with passengers on board.

At 13:22 the aircraft departed to Heathrow with passengers on board

Informative discussion from the First Minister re. Cardiff airport. At The Enterprise and Business committee.

Ex M.D. mentioned several times, landing charges, drop off charges, lack of taxis, Brs, and many other points raised....

Interesting discussion, but rather long-winded - seems also to contain quite a bit of various politicians trying to publicly curry favour with each other. Is there perhaps an executive summary or brief minutes available, instead of having to plough through some really quite mundane stuff ?

You might find the contemporary newspaper report more digestible.

First Minister says Cardiff Airport approached Welsh Government over sale - Wales News - News - WalesOnline

Not sure which is the more accurate record of the meeting - the press report or the minutes.

In the press report (see above link) published the following day the First Minister was quoted as telling committee members that, “The runway at Cardiff has sufficient capacity, and I think it’s right to say it can take a fully-loaded A380 and just about anything else."

The minutes of the meeting now record him saying: "The runway at Cardiff Airport has a sufficient capacity; I do not think that it could take a fully-loaded A380, but just about anything else."

According to the press report the comment was made when the subject of long haul services was discussed and the FM told fellow AMs that he believed that CWL could become a hub for a 'reasonably frequent' transatlantic service and other long haul routes could be developed as well.

So readers will have to make up their own minds which is the more accurate record.

Yes, it is a load of nonsense, repeatedly "Bristol" is mentioned, it's a "Welsh" "us versus them" thing, an "our dick is bigger than your dick" thing etc.

They just can't get it in to their thick heads, it seems, that LHR is just a mere two hour drive away, a PDQ train journey away also, National Express are back and forth umpteen times per day, whilst BHX Airport is less that a two hour drive away, is going for a significant runway extension for even longer haul than it serves at present.

Wake up South Wales, stop picking on Lulsgate Airfield because their dick is shorter than your dick because whilst you fight with your local neighbour the competion just two hours up the road are streaking well in to the lead way ahead of both of you.

Its a case of they do not get it. BRS offers in excess of 80 direct destinations. Now take the 1.1m which represents out and back so say 550000 one way spread across 80 routes = an average 6875 per route. If all of these routes operated from CWL as stand alone none would be operated it is just not viable even if the airport charged nothing. What Cardiff needs IS FOR THE WELSH ECONOMY TO RECOVER FIRST AND FOREMOST. A couple of months ago a Welsh Politician actually said that the economy failed twenty years ago and they have done nothing about it. Now they are going to buy the airport!

Picking on Bristol

Well at least BRS has balls even if it has a small d..k.....but 5.9 million pax per year ain't bad for all their hard work....BRS always gets blamed for Cardiff's failures. Time they woke up !!

A £50m deal to take Cardiff Airport into public ownership is expected to be finalised next month.

The airport’s owner Abertis has come to an agreement with the Welsh Government over the sale of the airport.

When it takes over, the Welsh Government would need to inject around £6m a year into the airport to support it, including agreeing to underwrite any losses in the first few years accrued by airlines establishing new routes out of South Wales.

Oh I can feel some fees coming my way! All those legal challenges from BRS operators, who have a real and legitimate grievance about this 'underwriting losses' malarkey! I'll get my new 5 Series yet

Yay WG!

On a serious note - how does CJ square his 'no public money' with all this subsidy and support?

Any airport handling over 1 million passengers per year should be able to stand on its own feet.

I don't think Cardiff has passengers over a million on the last count. I could be wrong. I don't want my tax money funding a mad mans dream.

Cardiff unfortunately is not going to grow much. It's too late. The ship set sail several years ago.
