Fair point, FRatSTN. The problem is that this policy won't encourage punters to pay TOM for a checked bag ... it will encourage them to book with a competitor. As I did. And all those other carriers accept checked bags for a fee as well if you really must pack the kitchen sink. Cheers.

well the first one is out of the paint shop now, so presumably will just sit about until they fix ther battery probs. The 767 fleet will be with Thomson until 2015 anyway, its just the planned redelivery dates which might have to to be pushed back.
The issue comes if they're not in service by 1st May 2013, since the B788 seats 33 pax more than the 763, and Mexico will have been sold at the higher number of pax, but again it's still only january so those flights are unlikely to be full yet so will possibly just be restricted to 258 on sale rather than 291.

Thomson Offers by E.Mail Fiasco
Well I have finally given up! After several years of being signed up to receive Thomson flight and holiday offers via e.mail I have reluctantly 'unsubscribed'.
In spite of re-checking my preference settings (again) just two weeks ago, with 'Manchester' listed as my local airport as befits my registered Manchester address, the same old thing happened again. A list of twelve offers from Doncaster Airport to eight destinations (all served by TOM from MAN). And for good measure two offers departing LBA and one from BHX, again to destinations served by TOM from MAN. There were NO offers from MAN.
As Thomson seem determined to waste my time I have now unsubscribed from their e.mail offers. Are they sending out this rubbish to everybody registered in the Manchester area with 'Manchester' selected as preferred departure point? What exactly has happened? Has the marketing department been overrun by geographically-challenged buffoons or is it the IT system which has imploded?
Anyway, I won't be signing up for Thomson offers again until I can be confident they've sorted the problems and got their act together.

It's not as easy as it sounds to fix Shed, I only wish it were.
What happens is that the email marketing team are dependent on the back end developers making sure that one's preferences are captured accurately and maintained. However anytime the company migrates the database, there's always a balls up in the logic. My last company lost some 6000 subscribers due to one SQL dev ( in India of course) not having his work QA'd before it went live. There was no way back and many of my colleagues who were paid on commision lost a large % of their contactable base. It only takes one poor link in the chain and it all goes to pot.
The only way to fix it sometimes is to email and create merry Hell. It will be passed on eventually and it can be fixed manually, however if you just fix it on the website, the logic *may* not update your settings. Yes it's rubbish, it is sadly not uncommon. If you are still keen, write some emails to them, it does work occasionally.

Shed, I have been receiving the same e-mails, I put my preferred airport as LBA and have not once received an offer from there, I have had several from MAN, BHX, LGW and Cardiff! I don't understand why they can not send me Leeds Bradford offers, why would I travel to LGW or CWL for a flight?
Sadly, the whole Thomson set up is very much a shadow of the former excellent Britannia Airways. An airline, I enjoyed flying with & racked up 29 flights in a very short space of time.
I had a run in with Thomson customer services about 4 years ago, which made Ryanair look like an agent for Mother Theresa.
Since then, TOM has firmly remained on my very personal no fly list.
Good luck to anyone who "subscribes" to their offers or carries more than a toothbrush & jim jams in their cabin bag.

I seem to remember Thomson saying that the Dreamliner flights were going to almost exclusively be for package holidays with only a very small proportion of the flight being sold as an airfare.

Well here she is fresh out of the paint shop not long now!
Personally I doubt it would be that long but the silence from Boeing on the subject does not bode well for a quick fix.

Dreamliner Latest
The situation as of today.
It's not looking promising for delivery of the first aircraft in February.
Boeing's flagship fleet of 787 Dreamliner aircraft will be grounded for the foreseeable future after a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the cause of two battery fires had yet to be found, and that Japanese investigators are similarly baffled.

Because of the delays of the 787s Thomson will have to keep the 767s longer. Three 767s were to leave the fleet as the 787s were delivered.
How will Thomson manage these planes as they are presumably coming up to their D checks. Will Boeing pay for the extra maintenance like they did when they put the winglets on?

I suppose no one knows the answer, I would have like to have found out how one airline will manage after they were promised the 787 would finally arrive in January, for short trips to train the crews.
Has anyone in the Boeing world or CAA or FAA given any indication how long the 787 will be grounded for. Have carriers across the globe made any plans for other equipment? There are only so many 767's in the deserts of North America!

I'm not sure if it will be the same however I remember when Bombardier had delays with the Dash8-Q400 they had locate wet lease aircraft for Flybe.
I'm not sure if this could also happen to Thomson and other airlines who do not have enough slack in their own fleet to absorb the delays in delivery. Afterall these are relatively delays at short notice.
