The work on improving the access between A and E taxiways is in full swing. E apron has had a surface improver put on it, and has been fenced off to allow hardening. The new standby generators are nearly all installed, and the airport will soon switch to an improved power supply. Watch out for NOTAMS.

707 at Manston
The 707 parked at MSE is an ex-Australian Mil variant, apparently the 4th to last production 707 made. It is currently awaiting 'C' check and fitting of 'hush' kits prior to commercial usage.

Pang...
MK is planning some investments in Parchim Schwerin Airport!, read:

Why should the Vulcan come to Manston in April? Isn't Biggin Hill show later in the year? In any event the Vulcan is currently at Cottesmore or Waddingford isn't it? Getting inspected or something for its Air Show certificate. If I recall its due to return to Bruntingthorpe today.
But presumably it will be based at Bruntingthorpe?
Incidentially is Jess comment about NOTAMs a comment to do with the airports power supply or something to do with the Vulcan as the Vulcan does at present seem to be proceeded by NOTAMS.

From Infratil's website:
Kent International handled 3,602 tonnes of freight in March – an improvement of 992 tonnes and 38% on March 2007.
Once again all scheduled freight carriers improved on their prior year freight performance.
The airport handled 32,624 tonnes of freight during FY08 – 26% up on the FY07 total, with all scheduled carriers showing an increase over this period.

New Job's at airport
quote on KIA web site
IAEL owns Glasgow Prestwick Airport (GPA), Kent International Airport (KIA) in Manston, and most recently 90% of Luebeck Airport in Germany (LBC), with ambitious plans to make a number of additional acquisitions in Europe in the next three to five years.
Manston not put them off Airports then, They do seem to be having real go at making Manston work.

New service for Manston
VLM to operate a summer service to Jersey once a week on Saturday afternoon.
No disrespect intended but it would be nice if sometimes contributors looked back through some of the previous postings on here.
Incidentally the Vulcan's base has always been at Bruntingthorpe and is unlikely to be moving anywhere else.

I notice that there is a lot of talk about BAA, it maybe split up, And Gatwick maybe sold off, IAEL has made it clear it has ambitious plans to make a number of additional acquisitions in Europe in the next three to five years.
Would they go for gatwick.? Talking about lot of money, if they did, a little more than what was paid for Manston a few 100's millions more ?.
if this happened how would it effect MSE.

Anti-airport ranter Eastcliff Richard (is he perhaps one of our chums on Pprune?) has this to say on his blog
"...that Infratil have just signed a contract to ship heavy mining equipment in huge Illyushin (sic) transporters to South Africa."
Any informed comments?

Big Ad in this weeks local trying to sell 9 Newmarket charter destinations, one of them in only 4 weeks time.
I don't think anyone here still harbours any illusions about Manston passenger traffic, but it's still a bit shocking to see these 10 flights haven't sold out by this time.

Newmarket
I looked at the website...only 3 holidays showing as available from Manston (June, Oct and Nov)
Maybe the advert was paid for months ago and the holidays are actually sold out

Dunno which website you are looking at, but the Newmarket site I just looked at showed all 9 holidays as available, starting with Lake Garda on May 25.
I tried a dummy booking for 8 adults on one of the trips, and there seemed to be plenty of space available.
