The passenger element of that statement is correct. For probably the first time in decades, most parts of the operation were a 'success'.
Majorca did very well throughout the season, averaging 152 pax per flight on a total of 4876. Jersey also did quite well, averaging 38 pax which although small is a LF of over 75%. The number of Newmarket flights increased on 2007, and total pax for 2008 should easily exceed 3,200. Their flights average around 150 pax.
The short Gran Canaria series didn't fare so well with an average of 97, though it should be pointed out that it wasn't put on sale until relatively late and there didn't appear to be a great deal of discounting. August was also the weakest month for Majorca.
While those numbers don't say anything about the sustainability of large-scale operations, they do at least prove that a small charter operation to bucket-and-spade destinations alongside the one-off Newmarket tours is viable. It is just a shame that there are probably no suitable operators now to pick them up.

Kent International handled 1,235 tonnes of freight in October, down 70% on the prior year total due to the absence of MK Airlines regular traffic.
EgyptAir recorded a year-on-year rise of 35% with growth in demand for export loads from KIA.
November has commenced more strongly, with a number of additional seasonal produce flights.
During October the airport handled five military troop flights. Four of these were recovery flights for troops returning from Afghanistan and the fifth was for the deployment of troops to the same engagement arena.
These flights additionally provided the airport with the opportunity to welcome Air Berlin, Monarch Airlines, Air Slovakia, Air Caraibes and Jet2 for the first time.
Newmarket Holidays are building on the success of the 2008 summer programme by adding an additional flight to Pula and a new destination – Innsbruck – for 2009.
I think that, of the 5 new airlines welcomed, 3 have visited before!

Good news in the Pre Budget Report for Manston; the per flight tax proposal has been dropped, and APD is being restructured.
I know this was causing some concern, so the removal of the threat should allow the airport to increase the healthy number of freight flights it's handling at present.

If you're so sure of the facts, provide the precise details - when do they start, where to and what with.
Don't forget that they said the same thing at Southend (an airport with a larger catchment area) and soon bombed out of there.

Yes, Flybe will operate the summer Jersey flight on Saturdays with a DH4, similar to VLM last summer except it is now a scheduled flight. It is primarily linked to local tourist operators who buy seats on the flights, in a similar manner to other routes from Jersey like Southend, Inverness, Aberdeen etc.

Very similar to the new MSE operation of course, take over the existing charter and make it scheduled. Only difference at MSE is that Flybe werent operating the previous charter, and a Dash 8 is a slight capacity increase on the Fokker 50. If SEN is anything to go by though dont expect anything more from BE though at MSE

Dont you think you are jumping ahead a little with those sort of comments. Jersey whilst not 'exciting' as such is a start and there is nothing to say things wont develop at MSE. Sure BE have not added new destinations from SEN but that does not mean they will not from MSE it is far far too early to be making comparisons. They have not even commenced the first flight yet...

I'm just saying dont expect too much because there is no guarentee that this will lead to anything bigger than a charter converted to scheduled status with the spare seats being sold by BE. Also it struck me how similar this service is to the current SEN operation. Only time will tell if BE will expand, maintain a weekly seasonal JER service, or even pull out, though lets hope this doesnt happen since MSE needs every little opportunity it gets

And you may well be completely correct but lets stay optimistic. MSE has very few operators and EUJet proved that people will use the airport, its just a case of getting a carrier to see the potential and at the minimum offer a couple of services even if it does include Jersey
