And they've just replaced the "G" with a "H" for the -400s, eg. 'HSUN, 'HSEX etc.

Back to more serious matters, I see FR has announced that flights have been axed until next Wednesday (flights to/from the UK anyway). Has the IAA given any indications of how things are going to pan out? Some reports suggest that up to 50% of flights will operate tomorrow.

Please dont think that im bashishing EI this is only a question that has been on my mide since yesterday.

How long can EI take the financial hit that all airlines are facing due to the ash problem
the news channels are reporting its costing airlines tens of millions a day..

again this is not a dig at EI its just a question

Faire d'income

No need to be rude or start getting personal
Like I said this was not a dig at Aer Lingus in any way, We all know alot of Airlines
have been finding it hard before the ash situation and Aer Lingus was one of them
I would not wish any Airline to go under.
I do not work for or get payed by anyone to "troll" here I am the first to admit I am
not pro Aer Lingus but again let me stress I would not like to see any Airline fail.

So i will take your reply as Aer Lingus is doing just fine .
Thanks again for your reply and have a good evening.

it was just a statement. most crew kill for a few extra nights as they are all 1 night stopovers now unless your snn crew operating the 4 flights 2 JFK a week where some of them get 2 night stopovers. most crew prefer a longer stopover so they can do a bit of shopping, yea your right those that have children maybe not but it all comes with the job. Cancellations and delays happen all the time all be it not on the scale that we are seeing at the moment. I get your point. I was just saying and assuming that Aer Lingus would provide expenses for each night extra that the crew are there.

@dannykelly. Please stop. You were suggesting that aer lingus flight staff (or any other airline flight staff for that matter) are just in it for the shopping and the expenses. Seriously get a grip. You must think that they don't have lives at home. Family situations, weddings, christenings, LIVES! your suggestion that they have nothing better to do and that by receiving expenses ($xxx) is all fine and nothing to worry about. When you ACTUALLY work as flight/cabin crew then tell us how you feel then when you've got a life at home and it goes on it's end because of delays, cancellations and the like. Make a more informed remark the next time.

AerLingus @BFS

It seemed apparent on Monday night that Aer Lingus were set to operate the 1st wave of departures on Tuesday morning however, they had to cancel such plans in line with NATS guidance. However, Wednesday morning and the airspace has reopened and AerLingus has cancellations? Easyjet seem set to fly a big piece of their schedule to the continent included.

They Cancelled flights before 1pm on the 21st yesterday. This was from the predictions that it would still be dangerous to operate till the winds change by the weekend.

Anyone see Enda Corneille on RTE's Prime Time last night. Had customers on the phone from Barcelona who reckoned they had basically been abandoned by aer Lingus. No representatives, no one to contact locally in Barcelona, no help with accomodation or rebooking and Servisair whio handle the flights in Barcelona didnt want to know.

Didnt think he handled it at all well but looked like it was just dumped on him by RTE. The customer was comparing what EI did for customers versus Easyjet and Enda had very little in the way of defence .

Transport minister seems to have had similar reports too.

A bit rich blaming the hadling agent along with airline. The handling agent is just that an agent for the airline and they must do nothing until they are told what to do by the airline. They are only as good as what the airline tells them.

It would be stupid staff member that authorised meals hotac etc assuming the airline would pay up rather than waiting for the ok from the airline!

No Payment from Ryanair

Well the bold MOL has nailed his colours to the mast by refusing to cover any passengers expenses for hotels, meals, etc.
He says a refund of the fare paid will be all passengers will get.
It does seem a bit daft that the airlines have pick up the tab for this cost, but the law is the law, except of course where MOL is involved.

Something tells me he may not have heard the end of this!

Aer Lingus will no doubt sit back and let him do the running in the hope he wrangles out of it.

No Payment from Ryanair

I have to say that I completely agree with MOL in this instance.

I heard him on the radio, airlines should pay and cover inconvenience ie cancellation of flight especially an overnight disruption where the instance was distinctly the airlines fault, where they did not perform, but sadly in this instance the airline could not perform and in effect they are held to randsom.

Ideally, Everyone should have travel insurance and this should be closely regulated and the price should reflect the risk. The small writing should be standardised for these situations, and in this way ensure adequate regulation.

The sheer level of compensation to passengers from the airlines could be enough to totally sink them in the current climate, and the bank are not lending and certainly not lending to more volatile or risky business.

If EU wish to hit the airlines with the additional charges then clearly the Airlines are within their rights to demand full compensation from Eurocontrol and National Governments.

Airlines prevented from flying so therefore claiming they are then responsible for something while Govt's deliberately refuse them the opportunity to do anything to change it will be an interesting court case.

"No Payment from Ryanair"

The business which hopes to earn the trust of the public must aim for higher standards than this whilst at the same time responding to increasingly unethical behavior by some consumers.

Why should any Airline pay a penny when they could not do anything about it ?

THE REGULATION !

when the cancellation occurs in extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken..
is there anything more EXTRAORDINARY than closing Airspace for almost a week due to a volcano and the direction of the wind ?

@ Dublin dispatch:

Don't think the guy in question was blaming Servisair but making the point that Servisair could do nothing for passengers but were Aer Lingus only representatives at Barcelona.
