I have been trying to book an Aer Lingus flight ex Dublin and the system keeps coming back saying that 'there are no seats available within 14 days either side of the required dates', seems mad, I thought at first that the route was n/a and then tried DUB LHR but the same message. Mad!!

EI-BUD
Often happens when the system has been re-configured or the fare base has been altered. For example, promotional and I must say proactive Business Class fares with a €200 rountrip discount were loaded overnight and are available from this morning. Tweaks like this with the system can often lead to an error or intermittent glitch developing. I've seen the above mentioned error several times on the Aer Lingus website.

Also try closing out of the Aer Lingus website and clearing your browser before logging back on again, that is sometimes the issue if you have carried out multiple flight searches.

Cabin Crew Accept Proposals

The latest news reports would indicate that Cabin Crew have accepted the ammended and previously rejected Greenfield Plan proposals, with 92% in favour and 8% against.

e-mail address

Like most companies who profess "customer service" but then refuse to deliver the most basic form of service, e-mailing, Aer Lingus regretfully are also now on this list.
Unless you know the person and have their address, EI will only accept FAX from its customers, the number is on the web site.

Ring them and you are talking to someone in "Swindon" who knows f--- all about anything except selling you the highest fare as they work on commission and have no authority to do anything.

Maybe Mr Muller will restore the some of the reputation EI once enjoyed in the world to his customers by talking to them again.

EI staff

I find that Aerlingus staff have the discretion to use common sense when reasonable requests are made.

Ressurection of USA West Coast Routes

Heard on the grapevine that its more that likely that either SFO or LAX is going to be re-introduced back into the program, probably for next summer though as its too late for this summer. Makes sense. They have the aircraft and their cost base will be lower by then when the greenfield project comes into effect.

Aer Lingus to Resume Limited Charter Flying

I have it from a good source in the Irish Travel trade that Aer Lingus will provide limited Charter flights Ex Dublin this Summer. (end of May to Sept) The schedule will be operated using 1 X A330 and 3 X A320 Aircraft. The A320 flights will be part of a weekend night flying program. These arangements all be it late in the season have just been finialised and will be announced internaly this week.

I heard this is well, from a very reliable source. suppose its one way to make money for them and increase the productivity of their aircraft. Sounds like Mullier is doing something right and you never know we might be back to profitability before you know it.

Is this in addition to the large allocation taken by Sunway on the scheduled services ??

Re: West Coast Routes

In principal, the return of a U.S. West Coast routing does sound plausible, but as ever, a strong consideration has to be given to the price of oil, combined with domestic demand levels.

A significant amount of fuel is obviously required for such a routing, at 10.5 - 11.0 Hours flying time (Westbound) on average. In an interview some time ago, Enda Corneille indicated that a routing to SFO/West Coast could return, but that a major deciding factor would relate to the price of oil.

With oil now already ahead of multi agency economic forecasts, averaging near to US$81.00 per barrel, it could head towards US$85.00 in the next while..

Although a reduction in the cost base does allow some room for manouvre, I think that there needs to be a load factor of around 70% (with significant C class occupancy), along with oil prices remaining at or below US$85.00 in order to make the route work.

We also need to see a stabilisation in long haul figures..

This sounds excellent in principle, in that it will make for a solid utilisation of the fleet. However, when is the announcement expected to be made public?

There doesn't seem to have been anything more on what you posted about some months back regarding the re-introduction of C class on certain European routes.

Hi Danny,

Were you working in JFK during the summer just past at the EI desks?

When you say 270+/- on three flights days, you mean the average load per flight?

I was on one J run to/from JFK last summer and know of someone who was on another two runs last summer and the loads on the 105/104 always seemed alright - between 12 and 23 pax..

Were any changes implemented as a result of the survey that was issued to pax?

BFS is to just have LHR from next October-comment on Cork Airport thread by KAVS8
I am so disappointed to read that BFS will only have 1 A320 this winter. Very shocked that at least Lanzarote did not survive as I understood that it did well. Loads were very high and I understood that yield was satisfactory.

So Jet2 will be left to Tenerife on its own, and what Aer Lingus have here is no more than what Jet2 have a couple of winter flights a day and then an improved Summer timetable. I cant see BFS being sustainable just for one route, in a market (Belfast London) that is tough, with only 'ok' loads, I simply dont see a future for Aer Lingus north of the border at this rate.
