I'm not convinced that runway 22 belongs in BFS city. the surrounding terrain looks too steep.

Thats definitely 22 at the City taken from the perimeter road near the old fire training driving track, at a guess, by someone who listens to the cross couple. Good camera too, nice pic!

I thought FR were happy operating under restrictions - oh dear and they have only started. Also note restriction is quoted on outbound not inbound flights!!!!! and on it goes who is right?

So how much longer will it take to get planning permission for an extension of the runway and if they do get it how long will it take to construct and will its construction effect flights?

I really believe the local authorities should be doing everything in their power to keep Ryanair in Belfast. If we are serious about increasing tourism in Belfast and Northern Ireland then we need an airline like Ryanair who can bring in tourists from all over Europe. You go to Dublin and a great deal of people coming off flights from Europe aren’t actually Irish. Why can't it be anything different for Belfast? What does Dublin have over Belfast when you think about it… Very little. Yeah undoubtly we don’t as many tourist attractions but if we can get the Maze, Crumlin Road jail, Titanic Quarter/Harland & Wolff etc all turned into attractions it can attract tourists from all over.

And what is wrong with EI/EZY/LS criss-crossing europe bringing in tourists, also FR could go to an airport just up the road and bring in the same tourists. What has been predicted to happen on this thread with the arrival of FR ie bullying BHD into a war against residents, authorities etc is baring fruit. Next to happen is a few airlines departing BHD. Great management decision!!!!

Well lets see, Dublin has a substantially larger population, Dublin has a much larger immigrant population (who want to fly home for visits), Dublin is a much bigger tourist destination than Belfast, people in the south are on average a lot richer than their northern counterparts and can afford more foreign trips, Dublin Airport is far more centrally located for accessibility from all parts of Ireland than Belfast, as well as having feeder flights to every single Irish airport bar Waterford and Belfast, and finally airlines operating from Dublin don't have to pay £10/€15 (or up to £80 on long haul flights) to the government for every departing passenger. Belfast will grow but neither airport will ever seriously challenge Dublin. Those who think it will are deluded. And before anyone says I'm biased I live in Cork.

Yeah, but apart from a tourist strategy, larger better off population, greater number of immigrants, the Euro, no airport tax, places of interest, great hotels and restaurants, 3rd largest sports stadium in Europe, National Concert Hall, is a european capital, first class public transport systems, one airport with a management that understand the business strategy, a proactive policy towards inward investment, and a government that actually encourages tourism, what else has Dublin got over Belfast.

Dublin and Belfast - what is all the fuss about - both have direct air links to Cork!

What more could another airport ever need!

4th Biggest Stadium in Europe actually . Dublin has terrible traffic problems. Have you ever tried to drive into Dublin? Have you ever driven around the M50? Absolute nightmare!

Undoubtley Belfast can and will become a popular tourist destination once we get a United Ireland. Watch the tourists and immigrants flow into Belfast once we get one!

ok the 4th biggest stadium, in terms of soccer or rugby but when it's football, and 'all seated' is not a requirement of the GAA, the capacity increases. The roads, in particular the M50 can at times, alot of the time, be very slow, but I was referring to public transport systems rater than the road system.

No the capacity of the stadium is 82,300 including standing. Croke Park isn't permitted hold anymore than that. Capacity is reduced to 76,000 when there is a soccer match on as all soccer fans must be seated and Hill 16 gets temporary seating.

Not at all. If you want a glaring example look 100 miles to the south at Dublin. They have more routes, but the rest of the points are just as bad.

My great grandfather listened to that nonsense all his life - change the record, tribal politics doesn't mix too well with aviation!!!

Dedicated flights from Belfast International to Barcelona and the Alpine regions of Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria are due to run from December 22 until March 22. The flights have been chartered by travel provider Ski McNeill.

On the subject of Barcelona being 'over-subscribed', surely Ski McNeill are block booking on a Jet 2 service rather than a 'dedicated flight' as their flight operates at similar times on a Sunday morning to LS. On there website they use a Czech airlines aircraft based at BFS for other destinations, however Barcelona has no airline description mentioned.

You'd like to think so really. All the local newpaper travel 'deals' rely heavily on EZY/LS/EI. Having said that, the CSA Airbus is apparently very keenly priced and generally well received by passengers. Wouldn't surprise me if it was cheaper than LS!
