I live in East Belfast and last night I couldnt believe it when I heard (and saw) an FR flight taking off at around 2330. Maybe because it was a Friday night they thought it wouldn't cause much annoyance but it was very noticeable. Is this the sign of things to come. . . . ????

Ryanair dont pay the late fine. No one does, the airport contribute to the fund on the airlines behalf. The airlines wouldnt accept the fine when put to them. The airport needs the airlines more than they need the airport. Ask the airport what happens to the fund and how it benefits the local community, I did and got no response. I asked again and got no response again. I think the answer is, it doesnt.

I thought that the airlines were penialised by the airport for keeping the airport open per hour. I also thought that the community fund had not been set-up yet, indeed it would'nt be set-up until the present planning agreement had been superceded by the new proposed planning agreement, which is still being contested by residents etc- is this not the way it stands at the moment - oh dear I don't know anymore!!!!

BHD management will reap what they sow regarding Ryanair - a poisoned chalice if ever there was!

Agreed, they have sold their soul to the aviation devil. Unless they actually manage to achieve their coveted runway extension, RYR will be off up the road leaving behind a mess and irrrepairable damage to the relationships nutured with BHD's other airlines..the ones that actually lined the coffers of the City's pockets for the last umpteen years.

Right, just let me clear this up. I fly from Belfast on a regular basis, BHD and also from BFS the odd time.

Is the general consensus that Ryanair will expand at BHD and drive out Flybe? For what reason?

Are BMI likely to stay at the City or head up the road even though EI are operating to Heathrow and are likely to be cheaper most of the time?

Will Ryanair get pissed off if the rules are tightened at BHD and head somewhere else (BFS?) and if the rules are already being broken, from a legal point of view, how is this possible?

I've thrown in the odd provocative comment (especially in the direction of Gate 22 (I think it's clear that I dislike BFS purely for it's less convienient location for me personally and the fact that it's a grotty shopping centre inside)) now and then but I wouldn't mind knowing what is likely/possible here. It's pretty interesting for someone who travels a lot.

Cheers.

FR have been negiotating with BFS for as long as one can remember to no avail. So why would BFS want them now, sure they have it stitched up. As for alonger runway at BHD my advice is just approach this issue the way you have approached all issues with relation to planning (retrospectively) build the runway now and apply sometime in the future doesn't really matter when. Rules are there to be broken, look at the cap legally hasn't changed and you are breaking it at the moment, so what nobody is wrapping your knuckles. Look at the curfew only allowed to be broken in exceptional cicumstances, but sure a plane can land 1 hour 20mins after the curfew and then happily take-off again at 2 hours after the curfew. You are getting away with all this keep it lit.

Why is it that no action is taken by any authority over the breaking of rules at Bhd?

Any views?

I have never heard so many people complaining about half an hour here half an hour there, what is the problem, it could be worse you could be fighting for airlines like Manston, people are normaly happy when the local
airport gets new airlines and routes.

RE: Ryanair Online Check in

Just checked in for my flight BHD LPL online, no hiccups. Must've been an issue at that particular time...

The problem is NOT the routes or additional aircraft.(Well not at BFS).The reason some of us get annoyed is the fact of TWO airports trying to do similar business 12 miles apart. I am unaware of ANY other similar arrangement in Europe. Between them they have almost 7.5 million pax per annum. There is NO necessity for two airports despite what is written here. The obvious choice is the 24 hour facility. I would contend that 2 airports actually stifles growth as there is no percieved "hub".if we were lumped in together there would be a greater choice of transatlantic traffic for a start. However I get paid no matter what.....

I give way to the gentleman from East Belfast....yes you sir...with the mark of the perimeter fence on your face...

BHD vs BFS

The relocation of BD to BHD put the airport on it's feet; if it wasn't for the arrogance and naivety of BFS, then BD would not be at the City airport.

Competition gives options. Any sensible consumer welcomes it.
