Quick question. I am collecting folk at the airport tonight, I read several months ago that the viewing gallery was shut, is it open or if I go in will I see nothing and waste a couple of quid for parking.

Can the mods change this thread into BFS and BHD?

Also does anyone know if Ryanair have enough staff in time willing to transfer to BHD? Also what will the working day be like for the staff, fromm what I can see it looks abit boring, same routes and all short. I mean mine at EMA it can be weeks untill I do the same routes again

Oh Eastern,
bored at Bhd? Surely not!! After all when its quiet you can always watch what the country cousins are doing and there is plenty of amusing variety there to keep one entertained!! How could anyone ever contemplate leaving and missing the full "Belfast City Experience" . Just think of the time and money you could save on your expeditions to Mid-Antrim and none of those nightshifts.
Actually the BHD bit only has to plan to close at 21.30 then we can make delayed contributions untill Midnight if the management have no other plans for the evening.

I believe the rule is that the airport can remain open in exceptional circumstances but over the years this has been read as ' to facilitate late operating aircraft'.
I also hear today that the airport is for sale, not waiting to be bought, but actively being marketed, can anyone confirm.

Aer Lingus ads

I have seen various Aer Lingus adverts in the from of bilboards and bus shelters today around North Down. "Heathrow £23 & Faro £39", haven't seen any TV ads yet though but i'm sure they're not far off.

Yes, plenty of them up around Belfast too. Yet to see a television ad myself. Noticed today on the back of a Metro bus, Easyjet to Venice! Has there been an official announcement about this?

bmi and BA codeshare

I discovered this ealier - If you go onto ba.com, flight information, airline alliances, then codeshare, it says BA have codeshare options with the non Oneworld Alliance carriers Aer Lingus, SN Brussels Airlines and Flybe. It is now also saying, subject to regularoty approval, that bmi will operate codeshare flights with BA from the 28th October this year. Even more options for connecting BA passengers from Belfast!

I see work has began to accommodate Ryanair. Stand 9 and 10 have been moved further east by about 20ft and stand 8 seems to have a temporary line straight in, and another line crossing in towards stand 7. Looks long enough for a 737.

Not sure what is happening to stand 4, its closed off, and bmi are using 5/6/7

Not necessarily. It might be rolled out to more flights but this is probably a codeshare in conjuction with the offload of BMed to BMI. Similarly, BA codeshare with Flybe due to the BAConnect offload. This is for a finite period of time to aid the passengers in transitioning from one airline to another. I'd be very suprised to see a codeshare with BMI on more than just the BMed routes.

Just seen one of the Aer Lingus TV adverts on YouTube. It's not bad, quite short and they use "Enjoy your flight" as their slogan instead of their newest one which I think is more effective, "Reaching new heights" but it's still a nice advert that gets the point across.

I'm sure this campaign will boost bookings at BFS.

I posted a few days back asking about if their are any flights to iceland from belfast/dublin due to my friends wanting to go on holiday there. Is their any demand to justify a twice or thrice weekly direct scheduled service out of either bhd or bfs (icelandair, icelandexpress, easy, ryanair, aerlingus)?

What sort of aircraft is used on the LCY/BHD. It must be a very small aircraft as the stats for August would suggest 12 passengers on each flight average-it must be a jetstream or something.

I know its been gone for nearly 20 years now, but why did they demolish the domestic pier at Aldergrove. Was that not a stupid idea, for instance I think they probably could have fitted 6-7 aircraft on the East side, 4-5 on the west side and 1 or 2 nosed in at the end. I never did understand why they removed it, one day it was there the next it was gone. Surely the net result is less stands!!!!
