It looks like most of these flights will operate using another based aircraft unit then rather than an actual BHD overnight based aircraft like the current BHD-STN a/c (though CWL crew)... Unless they are having a base at STN too for an early morning rotation to BHD as for example on some days the AMS service departs at 08:40, most likely after a turnaround of the aircraft arriving from another UK airport.

MAN base closing, so presumably that's where the a/c is coming from.

Never mind the runway extention, they will need to extend the ramp to fit all these aircraft in.
However I did notice that the bucket and spade routes are not due to start until summer 2012, perhaps Flybe are planning a fleet reduction at Belfast before then?
There is space to park a few more aircraft on the GA apron, however the airport dont yet have enough equipment to bus a few 737/Dash8/Emb load of PAX there on a regular basis.

From the BHD press release:
Perfect way to celebrate another Belfast venture that sank...

It seems a certainty that the ramp will have to be extended. With 3 Baby 737/300 aircraft to night stop along with the BMI Airbus, 2 Flybe Emb, 7 Dash, a Let 410 and maybe private stuff there will be no room at the inn. Guessing the apron used at the old terminal will be strong enough if its tarted up a bit and the fence moved.
Coaching to remote stands is very common at most airports so I dont really see an issue, although I understand that there is only one coach in operation at the moment.
I am keen to hear how this news will affect staffing. Will the airport require more ATC controllers? Ops? Coach drivers? Security? Customs? HMI? Obviously the handlers and Baby themselves will need to up the ante.
I guess also that there will have to be some sort of international arrivals route to keep punters separated for border checks.
Interesting.

With the MAN base closing does that mean WW are pulling out of there all together? I have flights booked from BHD-MAN in June, will they go ahead?

I wish WW all the best at BHD but all the new routes are in direct competition with EZY who are a lot cheaper and have a bigger brand/reputation in NI. Would it not have been better for them to try some new destinations that aren't served from here yet along with say AGP and AMS?

Same old destinations, served by the same-style loco's, from whatever Belfast airport. Whoopie doo...
Reading this thread, along with the BFS thread, one gains the distinct impression that City's stock is on the increase with the possible converse at International?
May be, just may be, Bmi Baby have made one of their better moves and will cash in on the momentum recently gained at City. Micky O'Leary may have made the wrong move and may be unwanted when the runway is extended!
As noted earlier, BHD will need to think carefully about parking, both aeroplanes and cars. The management will need to make the very best use of every square inch of their limited site or start building upwards!

Good news for BHD and those who work there, should add a good couple of jobs for all departments. Space will be an issue during summer, so i'd expect them to start doing some work on the apron and terminal.. if they dont, things could get slightly crowded, especially if theres delays or tech aircraft..
Its a shame to not see any new routes currently not on offer from N.I (as carmanorlad and BFS101 has said), could be quite difficult to convince passengers who have used EZY, EI, LS and TCX for years to try them, should be interesting to see how this goes, although a bit of a wait.

Nothing really earth moving in this announcement from Baby, seems very unimaginative to me.
It will be very interesting to see how they intend to compete with Easyjet/Aer Lingus who are already well established on the routes and operate much newer, more fuel effecient Airbus fleets.
Also wonder if Baby will start to "acquire" some A319's to operate these new routes and try to merge the crewing t&c's so they can operate for Mainline and Baby at bases like BHD. Majority of the 2012 bucket and spade stuff is at weekends so maybe they will use Mainline tin to operate on behalf of Baby at weekends instead of sending them out on charter runs for tour operators.
Good luck to Baby with their new routes.

And once again we have the same customers being offered the same routes from airports twelve miles apart. Short term gain for the travelling punter and a peek into the nonsense that was spouted by RYR .
I feel that EZY will see off the challenge to AMS and that the costa routes will be dropped quietly after a fairly short time.
This is short sighted short termism and will only disadvantage NI as a region overall.

In all fairness other than CWL as an exception, they have very little other place to go in the UK where they don't already have huge competitors etc etc, they have really lost out at MAN big time IMO. Is this their own fault or the fault of LH not giving them the chance for more a/c, even their own 733s????! But anyway good luck to them at BHD.
