Ali Gayward said: “Moving to Belfast City Airport was always a trial, but in over a year we have seen no tangible benefits.

Copied this from the BFS thread. It would be nice, but totally unrealistic I suppose, to think they had actually considered whether or not the passengers had seen any tangible benefits. But I digress.

I always assumed the issue for easyJet was not specifically the provision of a route from BHD to Luton, but an attempt to grab more of the NI to London low cost market.
At the time Ryanair's Stansted flights were carrying respectable loads and presumably drawing some passengers away from EZY's BFS to STN flights.
EZY must have had reason to believe passenger numbers to Luton would not be affected by the move and also felt they could grab some passengers from Ryanair by offering a lo-co London alternative from BHD.
Ryanair has now gone and bmibaby has moved down to BHD. The Baby service to Stansted will attract passengers who since Ryanair's departure have flown to Luton, mainly because you can board the train to central London in Stansted Airport. At Luton you have to get a bus to Luton Parkway Station.
EZY has decided to withdraw from BHD and consolidate its position at BFS by offering routes vacated by the baby move, as well as the only service from either Belfast airport to Luton.
It was suggested at one stage EZY was thinking about offering AMS from BHD but if the rumours about KLM are true, this is a non starter giving them even more reason to pack their bags and head back along the M3 and M2 to the shores of Lough Neagh.

Easy's dalliance with BHD was only started over politics. It was created during their spat with the owners of BFS/LTN on fees. Now that they have kissed and made up I very much doubt you'll see them near BHD again for some time. There may have been no advantage to the operation but there was little disadvantage either and they were considering other services up until Baby came to town. The City's orange chapter is over for the forseeable future.

How kind of them to "make the concept easy to understand" by moving their Luton flights back to BFS. From my point of view the concept is simple.
Taxi from Casa FF to BHD (Valucabs) - £6.50
Taxi from Casa FF to BFS (Valucabs) - £25.00 at least
Taxi from BHD to Casa FF (Valucabs) - £6.50
Taxi from BFS to Casa FF (Valucabs) - £25.00 at least
Public transport from Casa FF to BFS and back - £24.40
Public transport from Casa FF to BHD and back - £10.40 (ridiculous you can't use metro smart tickets on this service anymore. It doesn't really encourage you to use public transport).
There's absolutely no point in us booking domestic flights from BFS. We only go there for holiday flights.

I see a new O'Briens sandwich bar has opened at BHD. Welcome addition to the airport, and looks well.

Where has the new O'Briens been squeezed in ? Airside I presume ?

Surely there is little enough space at BHD. There is a particular lack of seats in the departure area without them removing more to accommodate yet another rip off food offering.

Yes, its located at the top of the escalator leading up from from central search. Its to the right of the bar. Less and less seating. There is also another retail outlet opening beside the book shop in departures.... taking away even more of the seating. Passengers end up taking seats in the bar, restaurant and coffee shop leaving no seats for people who have bought food and drink and need to sit dowjn. BCA need to provide more seating without a doubt. Departures can become packed at peak times.

BCA have received quite a number of complaints about the airport and lack of seating, and the building work lately hasnt helped.

The new O'Briens is a nice addition though, a little pricey (as is anything in an airport) but the staff discount helps

Who operates the new sandwich outlet, is it Autogrill? Hope it work out, very good quality but quite slow and can be expensive, but what isn't in an airport. The new outlet is going to be House of Ireland, an Irish gift shop, i think there's one in Dublin city centre. It appeals mainly to the tourist, American market. Maybe an indication of the route development plans!

the posters on the walls where the shop is being built show pics of Irish glass/crystal ware, things like that, so nope, not as cheap as the Leprachaun 'tat' WH Smith sell

Lord, just what we need. Other airports get Accessorize, Tie rack or a Sunglass Hut. We get House of Ireland!!! Bloomin typical. Though if it brings in revenue happy days.

In saying that, The Irish Quarter at BFS is always dead every time I'm there, how does the place make profit??? And the new fish pedicure outlet at BFS? Had it done in Malaysia as a holiday novelty last year, but sitting at Aldergrove, not so appealing!

House of Ireland isn't tacky. You might not recognise the name but if you know Dublin at all, you'll know the store. It's on Nassau Street, between Grafton Street and Dawson Street. Full of crystal and other tasteful items. Very expensive.

BFS, have you ever bought anything in there! They sell one thing in there an hour and probably make more profit than Starbucks! Such a rip!

I was home at Christmas and when flying back to Gatwick I thought best buy a bit of Irish tack for my English work mates. Bought a tin of Leprechaun Chocolate (which was rank) and three "Irish" pens... cost me over £20!!! Needless to say I won't be back buying there again.

Was in the airport today and seen the Fish pedicure thing, it was dead but £12 for 15 minutes isn't too bad! 13:20 Aer Lingus flight only had 40 passengers on it... didn't make much from that flight. Airport is looking well and seen the new welcome sign above the Starbucks windows too!

I have just been checking the Caa stats for feb 11 and i think the ww figures from Bhd are not yet loaded. Am i correct? If so, who does this and why does it take so long? The ww figures took a long time to load last month as well. They seem to be the only ones missing.

Any info/views?
