Right from the horses' mouth

Said Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK Commercial Manager: "Additionally, in the short term we are just finalising how we may be able to assist those passengers already booked on Ryanair flights, and whose flights will now not be operating." (Ryanair's flights cease at the end of October).

"We hope to be able to make an announcement about how we can help in the next few days."

Sorry, I didn't mean to focus on LPL, I meant all the airports that were rumoured.

Flybe has competed with Ezy on both Lpl and Brs before and lost out. How will it go this time?

Did not see that coming from Flybe. Really thought EZY would have moved in. Shall be interesting to see how these new routes stand up against EZY's from BFS considering we used to do BRS and stopped mainly because of EZY. Must be fairly committed however as we are also basing 2 extra aircraft at BHD compared to the non starter to Humberside earlier in the year.

Surley would it not be a good time for Flybe to start a few key destinations within Europe. That way there would be no call for a runway extension ( i am not against it one little bit just saying) and means that Flybe will know that Ryanair will never be back? The airport then in turn would not push for a runway extension as they are getting passangers from an airline that has been with the airport for years and years and wont pull out like Ryanair have. The airport should count themselves lucky that they didnt p*** flybe off too much when Ryanair were there and they are expanding now.........

Anyone else think the same?

I don't think BHD management did their friendship will Flybe management much good when Ryanair arrived at the airport. Certainly Jim French was very vocal as his criticism of the airport chasing what they felt was an unnecessary runway extension.

Lets hope Flybe do what has been talked about for years and do some decent direct european routes finally from BHD. A couple of winter destinations, 1 ski & 1 sun destination for starters then ?

True Blue, this is a fair question but I think that things have changed significantly.

1. Flybe in more well established being the sole carrier between Liverpool and the IOM so the brand is better known in LPL now. Also the fact that BE didnt wait too long after launching it!

2. Ryanair have established both markets and had good passenger numbers BE should be able to attract the ones that really want to travel (ie they may lose the impulse flyers who want to pay £5 etc).

3. Bristol lost the bulk of BEs business at the time of take over of BA Connect, and I would imagine that BRS would cut some deal to get back into bed with Flybe?

4. I think that it is also significant that BE is fitter financially now that it has been especially when compared to their 1st foray on Belfast/LPL market. Should be better able to compete now.

Finally, I would bet my bottom dollar that Ryanair will not come back onto BE markets. Ryanair avoid BE competition like the plague. BEs formula of frequency and strong price perception and an offering that suits the business man are a formula that in many markets Ryanair cant handle. BOU not a good match for SOU even with Ryanair and to be fair Ryanair havent been able to dent BEs loads on BHD GLA (FR to PIK) or on BHD London as BE have been growing steadily.

Not a huge fan of BE but I feel that it must be recognised.

As a supporter of one airfield for Belfast,ie BFS,Im glad Flybe have entered onto these routes.Obviously the relationship with Fr isnt as cosy as O,Leary and Ambrose have made it out to be.I really dont think BE will be any competition to EZY,its history repeating.Ezy chased them of these routes not too long ago and will do it again. As many have said"BHD knew whom they were getting into bed with".The divorce is now happening. As BHD,s lies and and bending facts have came to light, especially with the CAA,the runway is becoming pipe dreams and slipping from Brian Ambrose grasp and the bank who owns the airport now.All this talk about lost tourism and Belfast not being open for business is scaremongering from Mr Ambrose and his sidekick Katy Best.We already have a perfectly good airfield fifteen to twenty minutes from the city centre. The world does not revolve around Belfast City Airport, and thats why more than double use BFS....

Mutley:

CAA pax stats, year up to end of July 2010:

BFS: 4,153,024
BHD: 2,776,818.

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/80/airport...Statistics.pdf

Maybe not, though give it a year at BHD without RYR, and your incorrect statement may yet be true!

You have either a 1930 or a 2030 depending if its a Saturday or Sunday.

Covers everything but the late Saturday kick offs.

Mind you, the plane capacity is cut somewhat.

But, then again, plane capacities of 150+ were useless if they flew at the wrong times.
