Thomas Cook to operate an A230 into BHD from 28th June until the end of August this year, operating to Reus. So my source at BHD tells me. Anyone hear any further details. No mention of BHD departures on any of the Thomas Cook websites or brochures.
Good catch for BHD, altough seems strange to split their operation, having to place Thomas Cook reps at BHD for this flight rather than concentration ops at BFS.
Wouldn't like to be paying BHD parking prices for a week or fortnight in the sun!!! Definitely recommend taxi to the airport for that one!!

yes thomas cook or doing flight from reus to belfast city this summer but it will be thomas cook Belgium i have book the flight for a friend though belfast citys website and the flights are FQ9384 10.20-12.00 is reus to belfast and FQ9385 13.00-16.40 is belfast to reus

So is it a scheduled service then, and do any tour operators have allocation on the flight?? There seems to have been very little in the way of advertising or publicity for people to realise this flight is available.

Its been very quiet over here..
Is it true 04 is getting a glideslope and if so, where is this information coming from? Any sort of a date on the infamous runway extension inquiry, decision etc?

Aer Arann pulling their Cork service as of the end of Aug!!
Wonder will FlyBE or Manx2 consider taking over the route. It was X2 daily for years so presume it was profitable (perhaps only in the past). Unprofitable, or Aer Arann requiring the aircraft for alternative duties??
Jet2.com got their fingers burnt by attempting Cork from BFS, and the route was pulled before the inaugural flight, citing appalling forward bookings.
PS. Good news re Thomas Cook Belgium at BHD.

Belfast City - Aer Arann
Moving from double daily making a day return either way possible to one more or less midday service probably means they lost the business traffic but got some leisure passengers over the summer - its no surprise that they are going.

RE - ORK.
The route always done well it was reduced to a midday flight because of the start of EI Regional. RE then used a DUB a/c to operate it and inevitibly diminished its viability by removing it from the hands of the business traveller, hopefully flybe will take up the route or maybe FR will?

So direct to Reus without a runway extension . Kinda lends the lie to certain airlines requirements for direct to Europe flights huh? An unneccessary piece of investment p'raps?

Is it not to do with the 737-800's, and their performance.
Bmi operated Verona direct from BHD with Airbus aircraft in the past, and have a feeling teleticket operated a Futura charter to Malaga operated by a 737-300/400 good few years ago!!
Can see why FR would want the extension, obviously with their 737's, however with the talk that other European airlines are lined up to use BHD should the extension be granted, who are these airlines and are they intending to use the 737-800's, because if not, could they not start operating basically immediately.
So Airbus can do near European routes unrestricted as can regional jets as shown by FlyBE and Air Dolomiti, so very interested to know, besides Ryanair who these other carriers are. Would have guessed at SN Brussels, but they'd probably use regional jets, Air France and KLM again would've thought regional jets if considering operations into BHD.

Astreaus flew 737's into BHD on charter flights for at least one season a few years ago.
Is the issue not the 189 seats on the B737-800 as opposed to about 175 on an A320 that requires the runway extension for a full aircraft plus fuel to the Med plus luggage?
While bmi used A321's it was to London with limited luggage.

One of the main reasons, at least for take off, is that Ryanair's 737-800 aircraft engines are de-rated so to save fuel, engine wear and maintenance costs. So with more fuel needed for longer routes / higher passenger loeads needed, the aircraft would take a longer stretch of the runway for takeoff with the de-rated engines. It wouldn't be cost effective to up-rate the engines just for the few destinations FR could potentially serve from airports such as BHD with shorter runways.

The Ryanair 737-800's are not "de-rated" engines, yes for take-offs performance permitting the engines will be de-rated to save engine wear/maintenance etc but I stress the point performance permitting. The aircraft themselves have 26k/24k/22k and can be further de-rated by assumed temperature. The only slight difference FR's aircraft have is they don't have the "Bump" which would allow 27k. Even at 26K full thrust the performance would not allow take-off from BHD to continental Europe with the necessary fuel OR worthwhile passenger load and this would only be compounded when the runway is wet.
