Q?
Did the total fines cover the investigations going back 11 years?
My eyes are squiffy, I admit and my maths isn't the best but a total of (US/EU) fines of 1600m GBP?
Sod it (even) if my maths is wrong, where is the fine money going? Is it going back into an industry, employing 100's of 1000's in the EU/US?

LHR-ORY returns
ba.com are reporting a January (re-)launch of Orly, twelve flights per week from Heathrow. Used to be operated from T4 a few years back with TAT initially.
I am assuming this is for long haul feed rather than Paris-London traffic. Interesting.

There's no real prospect of connecting traffic to/from Openskies, of course.
BA have recognsed that Paris is large enough to have separate markets on the north side (CDG) and south side (ORY). Traffic between the city centres has passed across mainly to Eurostar, but there is a lot more than just that. Just like BA find separate markets from say Edinburgh to Heathrow, Gatwick and City.

Not sure if this is the right thread but:
I'm using BA and connecting in Gatwick in the next couple of weeks onto a TOM flight. Can I check the baggage straight through or will I have to collect at LGW?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks BA
Just to say a very BIG THANKS to all the BA staff at Heathrow yesterday who managed to get me on to a delayed GVA flight after my later scheduled one was cancelled. It was rather busy with all the cancellations but as is usual (in my experience) they worked like troopers to get everyone sorted.
Also thanks to the fabulous purser on the flight - you know who you are - for keeping everyone informed and happy, answering all their questions (including mine
The can do attitude of 99.5% of BA staff is why I fly with you

BA last night (25 Nov) flew Heathrow-Newcastle, when they got up there a preceding aircraft had just overrun, so they diverted - back to Heathrow.
Now I am sure that to the ops team it is most convenient for them to have their alternate (presumably preplanned) back at base again, rather than going into Teesside or Edinburgh, as others apparently did, and coaching the pax onwards. But does nobody understand that the whole point of an airline in the first place is to provide a service to the paying passengers, which includes a Best Endeavours to get them to where they have paid to go ? Isn't that what it's all about ?

NCL diversion to LHR
Diverting the flight back to LHR might not have been such a bad move. It could have allowed the option of a quick fuel-and-go as soon as NCL reopened. And I imagine BA would have wanted their aircraft and crew to be in place at NCL for the following day’s operation.
Organising an unexpected coaching operation late in the evening is not necessarily as quick and easy as one might think.
The real test of course is what actually happened to the passengers. Did they get to NCL that night or did they have to overnight in London and was the following day's NCL departure affected ?

Choose the coaching operator who can give you the quickest response, is local, and has a good pool of local drivers (because they will often have to be called out from home for work like this). Find out who has the area contract for turning out to any National Express and other major operators broken down on the motorway - they get sudden work at odd hours regularly and know how to handle it.
Do not choose the coaching operator who Procurement at head office selected because they were £25 cheaper on the tender, who you have little experience of, who are miles away, and take for ever to get organised.

KLM fly into MME daily, and have facilities there...
BA... do not.
MME being a small airport probably had only a handful of staff on dealing with their own KLM arrival plus the diversion KLM from NCL. A a full A321 wouldn't have got priority as the handling agent would be dealing with their own customer first. There fore diverting the BA back to LHR might have been the best idea. Even if BA diverted to MME, it might not have been able to go on anyway, you dont know how many hours the crew have done, the flight crew usually do multi sector days as do the cabin crew.

BA do have facilities at EDI, which was open that evening (AF went there). BA have also diverted a LHR-EDI service back to LHR this afternoon, although NCL was open.
In my experience, BA put their operational convenience before that of their domestic passengers - happy to be convinced otherwise.

BA did divert one of their A321's to MME on Wednesday night, dropped the passengers off to be bussed to NCL and flew back empty to LHR. Not sure what is different for Thursday night.

Has anyone considered that MME refused to accept the BA diversion?
It was late at night, it already had the KLM divert as well as its own service.
A small terminal, probably basic staff so couldnt accept it. After all, we know MAN in the past has turned away many diversions as it wasnt able to accept them.
The question is, if MME said no, then how far do you take it. LBA was closed (as I remember diverts going to MAN that night), then MAN is far across the pennines so are actually no better off in terms of coaches.
The best option was therefore, go go back to base.

Whilst it was undoubtedly an inconvenience to those returned to LHR the consequences of having the aircraft and crew out of position could have caused mayhem to a lot more.
Damned whatever they do I suspect.

LGW equip changes
Got some shuttles and other flights booked between April and July, they have all been changed to A319 from 737. What's going on? My better experiences with BA have generally been LGW crew.
