Somewhat bizarrely in light of the consolidation of flights that appears to be going on, they also appear to be using a Jet2 733 out of Gatwick yesterday and today (ie non-strike days).

LS operated 2902/3 and 2904/5 from MAN and will do so for the rest of the week from what I've heard. Not too sure why though as we're led to believe LGW suffered little disruption !

Appreciate that it is not a very significant number of cancellations ex LHR given the total number of flights in a day but still like to know why e.g. 3 x GLA's cancelled?

Is it lack of passengers rather than crews / aircraft not available?

Cancellations

Chalfont,
The cancellations may be due to the fall out from the strike. Some shorthaul flights are part of multiple day trips which may have started either in the strike or just after it. I suspect many of the standby crew may have been used at the weekend. Add to that there was technical fault on a domestic at NCL today with a long delay and it is easy for things to get out of place.

There has been a good improvement in the operation but not everything is back to normal. Sorry to hear your friend's plans were disrupted.

CB

Canx:-Due to crews out of place, lower load factors and a/c not in the correct location. T5 was its usual self today - busy!

Many thanks for your comments Currock Base. It makes things a bit clearer. My friend did get to GLA without any further delay.
Though from BAladdy's list (thanks for this info BAl!) it would appear that it is now just short-haul & specific destinations suffering several repeated cutbacks to-day which would suggest to me that there maybe something more to it...i.e. lack of passengers on those specific routes so consolidation is implemented?

I believe all BA's LGW ops during the strike are expected to be operated by BA themselves.

And for example, when BA pay Ryanair or whoever do flights on their behalf, are BA then out of pocket in anyway, or does strike insurance foot the bill?

Have dug around the internet and found a press release stating, "As a result of this support from cabin crew, the airline will run a full operation using its own aircraft at London Gatwick for the second strike period and all flights to and from London City will remain unaffected."

FR aircraft operating for BA this weekend?

BA say they're operating all their own LGW flights this weekend so the FR aircraft must be based at LHR?!

brsplanespotter,

Flight time of approx 35 minutes but don't forget to factor in the time you'd need to arrive at the airport prior to departure. I think for shorthaul it's usually around an hour before but that may vary from airline to airline.

I heard Mr O'Leary give an interview to the BBC on wednesday in which he expressed his support for Willie Walsh and BA in their dealings with the "headbangers" at Unite (headbangers was Mr O'Leary's word). He even admitted that he had been wrong when he'd previously questioned WW's resolve in standing up to the union.

Well - who'd have thought that MOL would ever admit a mistake!
