Think it is around 120,000 as I believe many exec jets are not counted.

Don't know what it was like this year but last year Luton was handling over 400 flights a day on some days. It isn't but if that was a daily event then that would come out at over 145000 movements a year.

Don't forget the October figures still included the Summer schedules (apart from the last week).

I think Novembers figures will show a decrease. It will be interesting to see then how Luton compares with other Airports.

Take your point Level Bust but when I passed through the airport a couple of weeks ago on a Monday lunchtime on my way to Gibraltar on a Monarch A320 with 130 pax on board, I could not believe the number of passengers in the departure lounge; also all airports have the same CAA statistics to compare each month´s figures with many already having been in decline for several months.

As of 0500 tomorrow, the new passenger drop-off zone opens, relocated now, in the short-term carpark.

As of 0500 tomorrow, the roundabout will again be used as an unofficial drop off zone, as it will be closer to the terminal.

As of 0500 25th November 2008 the Drop Off Zone has been relocated to adjacent to the Short Term Car Park , please follow directional signage.
London Luton Airport Operations Limited (LLAOL) recently commenced major enhancements to its Central Terminal Area (CTA) which will include improvements to the bus set down area, the main terminal roundabout, drop off zone facilities and short term car park.
Once completed, the works, in conjunction with the opening of the East Luton Corridor, will deliver a significant improvement to the passenger journey for both arriving and departing passengers, as well as improving functionality for the wider airport community.

As the UK's fifth largest airport, currently serving over 10 million passengers per year, London Luton continues to invest in infrastructure and service provision to provide passengers will the best possible travelling experience.

Improvement works will begin this month and will go on until Easter 2009. During this time the Airport will endeavour to minimise any disruption to traffic although it is possible that some localised congestion will be experienced during certain phases of the project. Passengers are advised to allow additional time when travelling to the airport and to check for updates online at www.londonluton.com .

Anyone found any offical plans of whas will be where once this is all completed?

I had a quick look yesterday at the new drop off area. There are no barriers forcing cars to move on as before, which happened when the old barriers worked. Now cars are once again parked up with no drivers also drivers sitting there indefinitely while they wait for passengers. It was like old times. No congestion though, as it was a quite time in the day.

I can see problems during busy periods as all traffic follows the same route whether they are heading for the short term car park or the drop off area. Before, despite congestion the old roundabout used to filter cars in two directions depending whether they were heading for the car park or the drop off area.

Don’t know how long it has been gone but I was sad to see that the Luton Flying Club building is no more. Only its footprint remains complete with tiled sections of floor.

It has been there years, it used to be Britannia Airways social club. Think it might be open to all now but not sure. If you like drinking inside a Portakabin on a run down piece of airport land then this is the place for you.

Just been scanning the arrivals board. Although it has been mentioned here before about the 8 arriving Wizz aircraft I never knew that they are all scheduled to arrive in a space of only 10 minutes with 6 of those scheduled inside a 5 minute window. Don’t know much about the Wizz fleet but they must have more aircraft on the ground at the same time at Luton than any other airport.

Flybe's S09 shows a daily IOM(was double daily this year)which in view of the current financial climate, together with Aer Arann starting IOM-LCY, is probably about the right balance.

Note that on Tu/Th/Su, the arrival time into LTN from the IOM, has a gap of about 3.45hrs before the departure back to the IOM. Could this be for a possible JER ops, in light of easy withdrawing, or something else.

Intersection enabled

Once upon a time it was quite rare to see aircraft departing from the intersection. Now it seems to be the norm at busy times which seems to be encouraged by ATC.

I always wonder that one day if an aircraft aborts a take off that the flight crew would wish they had that extra 1000ft of runway to stop in. This must compromise the safety of an aircraft.
