If my memory serves me correctly wasnt it NB that had the problem way back when the runway was being resurfaced to meet CAT111 requirements(i think).
One engine used to cut out on take off roll when it hit the edge of the overnight works .
Was out of action for a while when they had to get Boeing engineers over to check it out, as Monarch guys had relaced the engine and it made no difference!

God that seems like an eternity--25 years wow
Anybody remember the incident?

There was certainly one Sterling DC8 visited in 1986, whether it was a diversion or not I don't know.

Can't remember that far back.

I can remember one foggy Sunday morning seeing a Caravelle slowly tip onto its tail on stand, just as a gap appeared in the fog!

Grrr

The local paper at the time (Evening Post) carried pictures of the Caravelle pointing upwards toward the terminal (from memory it was on stand 5 or 6?) and also the Tiger Moth inverted on the north side of the apron having been blown over by something I cannot recall?

Nice to see that even in the 1930's, Luton airport was assisting certain Hungarian aviators locate their position!

Ryanair set to announce Transatlantic flights tomorrow...

Ryanair are set to announce their 3rd quarter results tomorrow, and it is widely expected that Ryanair will be announcing launch plans for their new long haul transatlatic services.

Fares are likely to start from £8!

With the current spat between Ryanair and BAA over at STN, could they announce LTN as their London hub for these services??? I might be living in dream world, but thought I could get the rumour mill rolling!

I see that some more money is being spent at Luton Airport. In the ground floor departure lounge of the old terminal the carpets have been replaced with a wooden floor. Also a man was seen with a roller painting the walls of the walkway.

Very rightly so, I flew out the old lounge in the summer, it was in a bit of a state!

In the first nine months of 2008, revenues per passenger at Luton Airport increased by 9.3% year-on-year according to a report.
The report was compiled by the airports’ Spanish parent group, abertis.
Net profit for the nine months ending 30th September fell by just over 3% to £442million, { I assume for all airport they own } compared to a profit increase of 5.4% experienced in the first half of the year. Overall, increases in revenue were cancelled out by higher operating costs.

No Return to the sunny Island of JERSEY?

Powerjet1

What makes you think Easy will no restart the LTN-JER-LTN for summer 2009?

Not enough back handers from you know where down in Jersey?

BMI are keeping the Heathrow-Jersey link open all be it with an E135, could there be a little hope EASY might return the LUTON service for summer 2009 with a possible reduced service?

After all 7 days a weeks was a little over the to to start was it not?

Should they have started with three or four services a week to test the water?

LtN-JER

GBALU53, probably because of articles like this:

Jersey's tourism board is holding a number of meetings with airlines in a bid to find a carrier to replace the capacity loss of 100,000 seats.
The British island, off the coast of Normandy, has set aside £1 million as a sweetener to entice airlines, after Thomsonfly ended its Coventry to Jersey route; bmi pulled two flights from the East Midlands and Cardiff; and easyjet announced the termination of its schedule from Luton.

Speaking to Travel Weekly, David de Carteret, Jersey's director of tourism and marketing, revealed that he is holding a series of meetings with airlines at World Travel Market, in an effort to reinstate old routes or open new ones.
He said: "We don’t talk to airlines just in terms of just having a conversation with them; we talk to airlines with offers on the table like financial assistance on landing charges and marketing support."
Jersey Airport currently facilitates 1.5 million passengers annually as well as 80,000 aircraft movements.

easyJet Summer 09

Just looking at the newly released timetable timetable for easyJet next summer from LTN and looks a lot more positive than this winter...

Most routes seem to retain the same frequences as the Summer 08 timetable, their are a couple of exceptions I have noticed:

Berlin down to a single daily service.
Budapest down to a single daily service.
Belfast, Glasgow and Edinburgh 4x daily, when I think they were 5x daily previously.
Obviously Jersey has gone, as discussed previously.

Alicante and Malaga are single daily services (2x Fri, Sat and Sun), I think that maybe a reduction on last year, but cannot recall?

Cagliari is daily, for next year. I thought that has previously only been 3-4 times a week.

Paris is four times daily when think this was previously 3x daily. So much for the Eurostar down the track at St Pancras effecting this routes!

I wonder if any new routes will appear as the year goes along with the reduction in services to Budapest and Berlin?

easyjet for summer 09

It looks like the daily Basle service has been reinstated from the start of the summer 09 season, plus it is still difficult to check all routes as some of the summer services have not been updated from summer 08.

EZY Budapest reduction is probably a response to Wizz increasing their service on the same route.
In previous years, EZY have added services on trunk routes as bookings progress. I would expect to see increased frequencies on the Malaga and Alicante, especially at weekends. UK trunks have also increased nearer to the start of the season in the past.
Cagliari was daily this summer, so no change there.
