Smile BAA Strike

Pabely,
I believe AFL are planning to divert A320 flights to LTN during this period.
regards.

AFL- If true they must have been happy with their handling eariler in the month.
As far as Biz traffic, I would have thought there would be a big increase on effected days as not all meetings can be resheduled. If it goes to the second strike then Harrods are moving the same day!

Luton will not want to turn away the 100 or so executive jets that come in every day.
LLAO cannot in fact "turn away" any operator that wishes to use LTN since the airport is - in common with most others - licensed as a 'public use' aerodrome which means that anyone can use it provided they comply with the Terms & Conditions of Use and associated bylaws.

Two such T&Cs are that all operators must have a handling agent and that they must obtain a runway slot from ACL. In practice, this means that if the Luton-based ground handling agents either cannot or will not handle the flight (perhaps for example, because of a lack of staff or because their facilities are likely to be fully committed already), then it can't operate through Luton.

One 'wildcard' is that Luton's South Apron is being re-vamped and the work starts progressively on 7th January with complete closure for two months from 14th January when Harrods relocates. This will in effect, remove five stands from use.
The other issue that's likely to have an effect is if Northolt picks up any significant number of Heathrow's and/or Gatwick's corporate flights because the routes out of Northolt directly conflict with most of Luton's and so frequently cause delays to Luton's departing flights.

I think the new cargo area might now be open. Looking from ASDA it looked like an ATP was parked on it this morning.

Bit of a blow about loosing 5 stands. So what's this revamp all about then and why is it taking 2 months? Sounds like the airport are using the same contractors that are building the new dual carriageway.

Baggage restrictions

I've just read that Luton is one of the larger airports which does not have permission to relax the 1-piece cabin baggage restriction on January 7th. Does anyone know if Luton is actively working to get permission to relax the rule and when this might be?

As l read that the machines that you need cost about £3M, l would say at a guess that they will not try to change.

Monarch ex LTN to MJV

Hello guys!!
Just a quick question! Do you know if ZB has any plans to start a LTN-MJV route for this comming summer?
I´ve heard something about that as I work at MJV, but not a 100% confirmed source.
ZB has increased the number of flights and routes to Murcia as ZB has become a really popular carrier and has been very well welcome
Best regards and my best wishes for this NEW YEAR

Grrr

I guess with Ryanair well established on the route already and Monarch serving Alicante it would seem unlikely, but then again we are talking about Luton, where anything is possible!

Slot drain repairs, installation of new/improved apron floodlighting, re-newal of surface paint markings & other relatively minor maintenance works all necessary to accommodate Silverjet.

Dunno if LLAO's contractor is the same one as is (allegedly...) building the new dual carriageway but at least as the DfT or LBC's not involved, the works will probably finish on time.

Its going to be a bit of a drive to get Silverjet passengers to their aircraft from March then.
Pick up coach at stand 1 - then travel the length of the Main apron - North Apron - East Apron - New link roadway - South Apron.

Not Ideal.

I wonder what will happen to Harrods old terminal and the old easyjet HQ?

I see the owner of the Dallas Mavericks (NBA) B767 has been at Luton recently, must be purchasing a local football team?

And has Luton's board been not showing it, or have Silverjet not operated a full KEWR programme over the last few days

Silverjet have only offered a daily service between Xmas & New Year to EWR. From today, they are back to their normal twice daily service. For some reason, EWR departures were not listed on the flight screens, although arrivals were. Must be some sort of error.

The BGI must be a special charter and is shown as due now at 06.57 today.

So whose idea of a joke was it to delay baggage reclaim on the Berlin flight last night by about 2 hours?

Yeah, 2 hours 15 mins wait from landing to bags appearing on the belt. EZY had some seriously p***ed off 'clients' last night. The police made an appearance at one point to claim things down.

Answers please.....

All Silverjet flights depart from their own private terminal so do not show on the departures board, arriving flights arrive into the main terminal as normal so do show on the arrivals board

From what I heard on the grapevine, it was a one off charter paid for by some very nice rich person to take his friends to and from Barbados for the new year.
