La Romana

Daza

Cheers, didn't check the cruise section.

It almost seems to good to be true considering the merger, just hope the
bookings match the commitment.

I still have not checked the whole schedule but from what have seen and what has been posted it looks good.

Lets see what TCK/MYT come up with.

Thomsonfly Winter 2008/9

At last some good news on the holiday charter front. An area where BHX had always been very strong in the past. BHX had been third largest UK Charter airport for some years but seems to have suffered of late.
It would appear that there are some differences in the Thomson and First Choice brochures though, eg First Choice has Taba being operated by a Monarch Airbus same flight times and days. It would appear that BHX is getting the lions share of Long-Haul flying in the midlands whereas EMA is getting more capacity to traditional ALC,TFS,AGP etc. I know a few of these destinations have been tried before ie; Taba but with the combined marketing of Thomson and First Choice hopefully they will pull it off.
Oh BTW, I for one am glad that SAS have grounded their DH4s lets see BHX-CPH upgraded sooner now as passenger loads have been crying out for.

SAS are really going to struggle for a while with size of fleet missing
I can see quite a few routes losing the odd flight to operate some other
flights

Indeed - it is entirely possible that the route was succesful on the Q400 and may not be so on another type.
I'm sure SAS will be crunching numbers on many Q400 routes to see what they can/can't afford to keep up. SAS's share price hasn't been to hot of late so things may not be too rosy.

SAS Cancellations

Just a note BHX-CPH is due for an upgrade with most services this winter due to be operated by MD81/87s only the Sat/Sun and a limited number of weekdays were due to be operated by the DH4. There is a list of todays 29/10 cancelled flights (quite extensive but not including BHX.) on SAS website.

SAS

Hopefully they will do there best this week to operate the evening flight
as Interbuild is on at the NEC and will generate some extra business.

I think in December the Q400 was due to operate the weekend flights
and Mon/Wed evenings.

From Jan it was the weekends for the Q400 and MD's in the week. Then in April a couple of the morning flights are A319's

Tonight's flight was MD80 LN-ROR.

BMIBaby Summer 2008

Although only a limited number of routes ex BHX have been released it would seem that there are some destinations that have gained, FAO up from 3 to 5 a week, Lisbon up from 4 to 5 a week, MJV up from 4 to 6 per week. There does seem to be some extra flights to ALC and AGP, a little dissapointing is that FCO has gone from daily to 4 per week for next summer. Looks like the baby might be heading back to the beach???

Remember that's only the first wave of seats for the summer season, I'd presume with easyJet scaling back their EMACIA route to allow them to expand into BCN and PMI that baby would be wise to increase frequencies on the FCO route, plus there's been rumours we'll see more Italian routes from BHX, or there certainly was alongside Eastern Europe when I was at baby.

Could any aviance staff at BHX PM me? I've just moved to Birmingham and am interested in finding out more about them, as they seem to be the best of the bunch handling agent wise and are currently recruiting.

You'rer all right about SAS, I suppose they will do some number crunching as the route was making money on the Q400. SAS had scheduled various MD80 versions along with the odd 319 here and there. There is alos rumours of the ARN flight returning!!

BMI Seats

Thankfully got in to their booking site nice and early on the openeing day so got some bargains to ALC. They have been extra smart with their pricing and done me over for Whitsun next year for £200 RTN - I got them back with a £50 rtn (tues / tues) in May

Swissport -Myt/TC merger

On my way home from work I was chatting to a TC senoir captain on the staff bus. According to him he is 90% sure swissport will be the handling agent after the merger. He got this info from a friend of his who is an accountant for TC. Apparently TC have wanted to go to Swissport for the last 2 years now.

Well considering a 2 year contract was signed between Aviance and TCX at the beginning of the 07 summer season, I don't think that's true at all!

At the end of the day, TCX are pretty happy with Aviance and MYT are pretty happy with Swissport, last I heard nothing had been sorted yet!

Baby/Easy/Thomas Cook/SAS

BMI Baby

Well the first release is out for summer 2008 with little to give away the number of based units. If the usual UK routes and Amsterdam operate then there is a requirement for at least 7 based from the end of March
(no change to now) and at least 8 in July (but probably May)

Hopefully once the whole schedule is released it will translate as 8 in March & 9 by July but I am not holding my breathe.

No mention of Bordeaux & Marseille and they were not in the first release but Madrid and Barcelona will be out soon per the press release.

Lisbon is up but the 2nd Malaga is not operating until July. Nice is also not daily until the end of May, which is down on last year.

Easyjet

Have they put in any requests for summer slots?

Thomas Cook

This will be interesting to see where they go, surprised to here that they wanted (or allegedly) to leave Aviance for Swissport. They might be able to do better cost wise but....

SAS

Good to see today's operated with a MD, a nice little boost for BHX as
I am sure they are pushed for aircraft although I would imagine they
would have some slack at weekends in winter.

TCX

Pete

There is no secret that TCX wanted to come to Swissport last time the contract came up. The reason it didn't happen was because Swissport didn't have the capacity to handle them, now Flybe has been split out to a standalone operation we do. Everyone is waiting to see which way things go, but don't be suprised if they do change.

TCX

I am reading alot of the posts regarding tcx and there wanting to move to swissport and quite frankly what a load of tosh. Aviance have won numerous awards from tcx this year and last for handling at bhx. Speaking to St. Managers of tcx they beleive Aviance will keep the contract and subsequently gain Myt.

To be honest why would they move from an award winning agent to one that struggles to go through a month without a major inciddent???? The only way I beleive they will move is if Swissport cut the price to level where they are losing money like the one they did with Flybe when they moved...

As has been stated before, Swissport do NOT take on contracts that lose money. The Flybe contract does not lose money, providing we don't delay anything, it makes money It is the same with anything else we take on, there may be very little margin in some but none are taken on to lose money, unlike Aviance with Britishjet??

TCX

Barry,

Swissport could actually have taken TCX when they took BE but refused it at the time due to not having enough time to recruit etc. But they are going mate!! But look on the bright side. i hear Aviance might have a BIG contract lined up. Not sure of the airline but it is a 146 operating twice a week to Europe.
