Congestion at UK Border Controls
Yes, it is infuriating but ATNotts is correct, it is nothing to do with the new BHX pier and this problem will occur at any airport.
Iris recognition is a way of avoiding these queues and I am sure many frequent fliers would opt for this it were easier to obtain the necessary credentials. The only point where you can obtain this that I have seen is airside at BHX and every time I have seen it it has been closed! Also, there is not a lot of time airside to take this option up.
Correct me if I am wrong but shouldn't they be in the general airport building. But if there is already one at BHX please tell me where it is..

Ryanair Grenoble
This has appeared in the OLCI and parts of the booking engine for
late December.
Same as last year once a week on a Saturday. The time is interesting
as it is an 07.10 making five early morning departures but hardly any
in the late afternoon.
Grenoble will see three schedule airlines (WW, U2 & FR) operating five flights on a weekend from late December.
BHX-CUF appears to be dropped and as it rarely hit three figures this
is not a surprise.

EI Cork
Just noticed today on the Aer Lingus booking engine that from Winter change BHX-ORK goes to 11 per week: double daily Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri.
Mon/Wed/Fri are 08.50 (EI703) and 20.00 (EI709) departures (day-trip to Cork anyone?) but Thur a bit odd with departures at 14.40 (EI707) and 18.20 (EI709).
Good news, though I guess not totally unexpected with load factor 90% in July (per Olton Petes figs), albeit on only 5 rotations per week.

N272WA
Yes great news but the 90% load factors were during the four a week
period. Up to five now with the Tuesday 321 operating.
I agree with the Thursday timings most strange.
The thing I can't believe N272WA is that you beat the Cork thread
guys to this information.

Auster, de Havilland and Miles, all names synonymous with the exciting, glamorous early days of flying in Birmingham.
For one day only, Birmingham Airport is inviting classic aircraft to visit on September 9th, to help celebrate the Airport’s 70th anniversary, the opening of the new International Pier and to contrast with the arrival of the Airbus A380, the world’s biggest airliner at Birmingham. And the best part is the price; help us celebrate for a landing fee of just £3.80, including handling by Signature Flight Support – a super jumbo bargain!
For seven decades the Airport has served the UK’s second City, as well as the wider region, and while Birmingham is now home to some of the most environmentally-efficient fleets, it all started off with a Dragon Rapide touching down at what was the old Elmdon terminal.
There are a number of events planned to help mark what is a true milestone in the history of Birmingham Airport and you could be part of what will be a memorable day. In fact there might even be a surprise or two in store as well!
Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport’s Chief Executive Officer, explains, “September 9th promises to be a significant day in the history of Birmingham Airport as we celebrate our 70th anniversary and the opening of the International Pier. At £45 million the Pier represents the biggest single investment the Airport has made in the last 20 years and it is fitting that its opening coincides with the marking of our seventh decade.
“It would be great if, on the day, people were given the opportunity to see some of the aircraft that were once regular visitors to the Airport in the early days of operations. We are all anticipating a day to remember and we hope those with interesting old aircraft can make a visit.”
So, if you think your aircraft could help set the scene on Birmingham Airport’s 70th anniversary and opening of the new International Pier then get in touch. To request your slot and operational details contact Andrew Davies on 0121 767 7073 or email Andrew.davies 'at' bhx.co.uk, no later than Friday 4th September. No aircraft will be accepted at this special rate without an official slot number.

A380
It is apparently a tour of several UK airports and locations. BHX is one of hem.
There is a thread on this forum with where and when.
Nothing to do with preperation for the EK as far as I can see.

The fly bye is a joint Airbus initiative to show off the A380 and was organised separately to the BHX op as CC says. Happy coincidence??.
Rumour has it that Manchester are spitting feathers at the Emirates A380 doing a service into BHX.

Two A380's
Tomorrow is a flypast only by the Airbus owned 380 at 15.40 approx.
This is unrelated to Wednesdays Emirates 380 on the scheduled
service EK39/40.

And very quiet it was too. Shouldn't be too surprised at the rate of climb at the end of the fly-by as it would have been getting very light by then. Look forward to what the EK does on Wednesday after I've had a good look round it

UK Border Agency | Where can I register for IRIS?
Does seem that actually given all the fuss about new technology the Home Office really isn't doing much to promote this. Seems daft that you can only get this done on an outbound route once airside and only at restricted times. When returning to BHX a few weeks ago there was a huge que for passport control and I saw a handful of users of the iris recognition route

Emirates A380 at Birmingham 9/Sep
Excuses if this was mentioned already somewhere else.
I presume these details of the one-off A380 visit to BHX
are still valid:
Emirates to serve Birmingham with an A380 but just for a day | News | Breaking Travel News
"...arrives in Birmingham at 1235hrs. Alternatively, travellers can
take EK040, which leaves Birmingham at 1505hrs..."
So the whale should be sitting at the airport between 12:35 and 15:05.
I wonder if it will be visible from the big windows close to the
car rental desks between T1 and T2, that should draw a nice crowd.
Have to work in town that time of day, all of you guys at
the airport, enjoy !

The big bird will not be visible form the link building, and only just from the viewing lounge. Should get a reasonably good view from the railway path though. Maybe TC will have a surprise to announce tomorrow if the whispers I've been hearing are correct

Ryanair @ BHX
Winter 2009/10 has been updated.
No further flights lost but now all fits three based aircraft except
Wednesday which now needs four for morning. This can be adjusted
by changing ALC or PSA to away based.
The change has been made by adjusting the AM Dublin from BHX
based back to Dublin based.
Unless FR or BHX have something up their sleeve it looks grim.
Also the three based have longer sectors as well with TFS/ACE/LPA.
