Not quite right DTVA, Peel paid for the frontage, Regional Devt agency for the new road. But that was quite some time ago and theres been no further investment of significance since other than the planning fees for the Business Park on the North side and the Warehouse/ industrial park on the south side. Oh yes and the haulage contractor from Charltons who is building a "hilton" hotel................................
On the brighter side, I went out to Girona on the ryanair last week, very encouraging to see full load on the return and only three spare seats on the outbound. So maybe MOL will stay around for a little while longer. Also (as usual) it was interesting to note the "Ryanair welcomes you to Teesside Airport" announcement when taxying in, and of course the "Teesside" on the destination board . A rose by any other name ...................

Yes, plus Ryanair have reverted back to "Teeside" - their spelling not mine.... on the reservation screen rather than DTV.

Re RYA then I wouldn't get too carried away with the LF's at DTV e.g. from my recent experience last Fridays DUB outbound was only c.75%. At the end of the day you can have a 100% LF with a crp yield and judging from some of the low fares on offer then I'm sure RYA aren't smiling. Nb the return DUB-NCL several days later was 100% full.....though as with any statistics, conclusions based on small samples is very dangerous.
Perhaps more telling is that RYA are looking to introduce a service to SNN from the North East and it's NCL that is in the frame.
Looks like the girls in marketing are proving as useless as ever

NCL-SNN with FR commences November and is already confirmed and bookable as from today, so another possibility gets away.

Not all bad news though, I’ve heard entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne of Dragon’s Den fame wants to open a large shop at DTV selling paddles.
It’s going to be called ‘Up Sh*t’s Creek’, and he’s planning to make himself an absolute fortune !!

To be honest I'd be surprised if that survives past the winter - I mean just look at how their attempt from LBA did

"Bosses in talks over airport's future"

From The Journal's Business News"

Bosses in talks over airport's future
Sep 25 2008 By Andrew Mernin

AIRLINE carrier flyglobespan will sit down for a delayed meeting today with Durham Tees Valley Airport bosses to discuss future scheduling.

There had been speculation that the overdue talks were a sign that the carrier was to pull its services to six European destinations. But a spokesperson this week said scheduling decisions had been overshadowed by recent crises in the airline market. A string of carriers have been grounded as the economic grip tightens, including K&S Travel, XL Leisure, and Zoom, while the deadline passes today for a rescue bid to keep Alitalia in the air.

Flyglobespan has stepped in to rescue Thomas Cook travellers stranded by Futura Airways, which slid into administration last week. On Monday the Spanish Civil Aviation authority suspended its operating licence.

Flyglobespan will run mercy flights for Thomas Cook passengers between Durham Tees Valley and Mahon, Menorca, and Palma, Mallorca, until the end of October, and for the rest of the winter. The company said it had not been affected by the financial squeeze and enjoyed ‘record load factors’ this summer.

Chief executive Rick Green, said: "I think it is imperative at a time like this that the industry pulls together to support one another and we are pleased to have been able to assist". Meanwhile, KLM, which flies to Amsterdam from Durham Tees Valley, will unveil its future plans for services at the airport today.

I think the NCL - SNN route is to try and make sure that Aer Arran don't restart their Galway route next spring. It's Fri and Sun from 7th November

Yea, that's got me worried, why would KLM have anything to announce? They should just *be* here, they've never announced their schedules for each season, so why start now? The only things they could announce would be an increase in frequency (they have slots for a 4th daily rotation) and/or an aircraft upgrade, or...well, the alternative doesn't bare thinking about...

On a separate note, a little food for thought - Emirates DXB-NCL service is said to have been the airlines most success new route to date (and bare in mind this is Emirates, where you wipe your **** with $20 notes), so what does that tell you? That people of the region want to go to more than Majorca, so why doesn't our management get off their ****s and approach the airlines for say, a Moscow route, with a deal that states they won't have to pay any landing fees for not just 1 year, but for 10 years, but they will be charged so much per passenger, therefore if the passengers don't materialise, then the airlines doesn't pay anything?

Now what about Globespan?

I've just heard from a friend who works for a travel agent or tour operator, whichever, who has been told by her management to take no further bookings on Flyglobespan flights, plus, GSM have been given odds of 6-4 as the next airline to go bust by bookies "Paddy Power"

Since the revenue figures are confidential they don't have to back it up. hey flatter a lot of airports saying this, Glasgow was told this many times. I would have trouble believing that with a whole host of new routes across the world that the North East of England would really be the new Jewel in the Crown. Honestly it's just spin. Manchester supporters are similar in that they are still pi**ed off that Ba pulled out. The proof of the pudding is that the dropped routes were not picked up and the market isn't really there.

Teesside - Moscow has NO market.

You are right but perhaps there would be a market for certain routes that are not presently covered from MME, perhaps Sharm El Sheikh would be a money spinner ?

Never know if GSM stay and put in the two 733's that there considering keeping, they could try a massive expansion again clever marketing and some exciting new destination though SSH might be a bit to far!

DTV Spin

At the end of the day we havnt got much spinning to do.
take away FRA..which contributes circa a million per year and there is not much cash flow into the airport?
How long will THEY keep going looking at the state of the armed forces?

The list is long..thomson,Wizz,TNT and more..all came saw and went
Skyman talks a lot of sense...marketing is non existantant, the airport has never progreeserd in the 25 years i have been going.

we had 20 years ago...Aberdeen London,Amsterdam and Dublin(?)plus a few IT flights ..hey guys look today..what have we got ??? Aberdeen, london(just) and Amsterdam.

face it we are a small player in a decreasing market..really no hope..

Please prove me wrong

DTV spin part 2

Think this guy is right..its going to be a long hard winter..not just here but at all airports. The fittest will survive and I cant see DTV being one of them?

Downgrade to a small provincial airport like Humberside(no offence) or Norwich( again.no offence..just reality)(and Doncaster) is possible.
Land sell off for whatever.

Bit like the premier league now..same 4 or 5 survive and others look for scraps.

Even ICS (Cleaning Services) are leaving at the end of this month.
Not many aircraft to clean looking at the timetables!!!

GSM are posting a return to profit this year with a possible purchase of a couple of aircaft from the airlines that have gone bust. Looking to pick them up cheap!!
