In the case of weekly or even twice weekly flights one less or extra day in the month compared to last year can skew the percentage changes quite a bit (i.e. if there is a Friday only flight and the month in question had 5 Fridays in 2007 but only 4 in 2007 there would be a large percentage decrease but the average load per flight may still be the same). Worth noting when analysing the CAA Stats

GSM are only planning on disposing the 2 733'S because of the gas guzzling there keeping the 2 736's because there NG'S and they have been intergrated into the S09 programme need to hope GSM replace or keep one of the 733's if they are to stay at MME

...and BTW way its a fair sign an airline is pulling out when the divert MME pax to ALC in to EDI
Do GSM not have a scottish maintenance base? If so (and if it's EDI) why bothering bringing pax back to MME only to position the tech aircraft up to Scotland and position another down to MME to carry the MME pax to ALC.

loopa1 suggest you read the thread !
On arrival into our airspace they decided to divert to Glasgow, it arrived there at 6pm and is still there!! So hence the mess, as GSM dont sub-charter they must be sending something else in from Alicante.

KLM and BMI cancelling flights on a daily basis...two today!

Globespan..well who knows...

Eastern cutting Aberdeem flights to 3 per day most days..

Thomson pulling out

Jokeing apart can the airport be sustainable???

It sounds not too good...any offers for the future??

At least the Boro might be in Europe next year!!

yep it could get alot worse! i hope it wont but i think aslong as we keep the core services of AMS, ABZ, LHR then we can pick up business from elsewhere. Whoever decides to stay still has the bread and butter routes, palma, alicante ALWAYS do well from here.

As someone on the Durham Tees Valley thread said MME is still ahead of the likes of Blackpool, Humberside, Newquay which all have similar catchments both in terms of numbers and competition from nearby 'bigger' airports.

As for the future, I agree MME must keep AMS, DUB and ABZ, and barring disasters it should, and some summer and winter charters from the likes of IWD which should always be well supported. LHR has not got a long term future either with bmi or any other given that domestic routes will be under major pressure with the 'green' brigade at Westminster. As for new Loco's, I honestly think there will be no takers within the next 18mths-2 years with the economy as it is and smaller locos like ZOOM going bust there may not be the same number of interested parties as there were when bmibaby left. Shame about Wizz but they obviously want to focus on LPL and DSA and won't be expanding much more. The only real hope would be FR who are looking profitable, albeit whilst grounding planes in the short term. Shame MME could never attract flybe as their fleet, destinations and pricing structure would fit demand but think they have missed the boat on that one.

Finally, let's not get too despondent-for years before bmibaby came in MME had just LHR, AMS, ABZ and DUB with charters. If it can't support a based loco, then it can't but neither can the aforementioned airports like HUY etc.

I heard a story some years back the SMB would keep bmi in MME whilst ever Nulabour was in power (TB up the road assumed that whilst ever he was in number 10 then Labour would be!!) well he's gone and GB wont be far behind and there not a snowflake in hell chance that bmi will be by xmas 2009.

Your best hope is to offer Jet2 or Ryan free everthing and live of the car park income, otherwise in 5 years the local kids will be asking what that brass statue wearing a flying suit is doing in a IKEA car park?

GSM Summer 09

Both GSM's 733's are definatly leaving the GSM fleet by Feb 09.

This will leave 3 x 767, 1 x 757, 2 x 737-700 and 5 x 737-800

So far there timetable requires

1 x 737 for ABZ
3 x 737 for EDI
3 x 737 for GLA and 1 x 767 for GLA and BFS to SFB
1 x 767 for YYC and YVR services
1 x 767 for MOD services

All these aircraft are being fully utilised

That leaves no aircraft to operate any MME services. Also the other bases have
almost full timetables and there is nothing for MME.

Also the current Winter 08/09 timetable finishes Sunday 11th Jan. If GSM where staying at MME TFS inparticular would be continuing until Summer timetable. Also 11th Jan gives GSM 4 to 6 weeks to prepare the 733 for it's exit from service.

Looks like GSM are pulling out of MME

Yep I did ! BUT ignoring all the statistics relating to demographics which are at this point from a business point totally irrelevant, then unless there are subsidies coming from i) Either Peel because they see future non aviation revenues, or ii) Govt. or Local authority support on a political basis, then given the higher overheads than the previously mentioned airports then who is going to pay to sustain MME/DTV.....?

Haven't heard of any rumours at work regarding Wizz. What were the loads like on the route?

I suspect that this rumour is another that eminates from the 'Reggies!'. From an ecconomic point of view it makes little sense to relocate 40 miles up road given all set up costs & marketing. I suspect that the demise of this route from DTV is perhaps more that any financial assistance offered in setting up and establishing the route has been expended and it is no longer 'deemed ecconomic'. Those concerned with route planning at NCL will not be unfamiliar with this concept !

The 736s have been sold and are heading for Korea.

Very full almost always.

Has anyone heard the new radio advert for DTV? It's cheesy but does the job I guess.

Hi
Can anyone answer this question for me? Do BMI still have crews based at DTVA or are they all based at LHR now? Does anyone know what a typical day's rosta would look like for a BMI pilot flying out of MME?
