Ryanair - Change in Policy ?

BOHe-man - Yes reports of Ryanair looking after Pax in TFS after long Tech Delay !

That would normally been dealt with by a Note on the Ryanair Desk, saying re-book & sod off !

However there does seem to be a change in policy with RYR using spare A/C at BOH to keep flights on time, when A/C on early sectors are delayed !

Is there a new man at RYR customer Services ?

Any further info on Easyjet setting Up ?

In 2002 Palmair announced completely out of the blue that they would do a double daily Glasgow service from BOH using the 2nd B737 they used from European. This was quickly ditched when Buzz announced they would do a daily PIK service as part of the base they proposed (to start Mar 2003)
The end of 2002 was when Bath Travel announced they were going to buy European. They were obviously looking at ways of developing the whole airline (at the time 5 x 747s, 9 x 737s). However after closely looking at European's finances they pulled out of the deal. So the situation in 2002 was COMPLETELY different to Palmair today.

Looks good !

But is anything being done about the roads leading to the Airport ?

It's the only airoprt Ive ever been, where you have to queue to get out, it needs a slip road to the M27

That would be some slip road, about 15 miles long I reckon

A slip road to the A338 however is an excellent idea and would be a real landmark in the development of the airport if it ever happens.

Photos of the departure terminal are great, really looking good.

We just need some more imaginative destinations from FR now or even better a based plane from Easy.

Potential changes to the road infrastructure are discussed at length in the airport master plan

http://www.bournemouthairport.com/bohweb.nsf/AttachmentsByTitle/Masterplan/$FILE/Masterplan.pdf

See section 6.3 on page 49 and figure 6.1 on page 57

Roads -No Change then !

I meant a slip road to the Dual Carriagway, is that the 338 ?

Looked at the Masterplan, which highlights all the problems, but gives no answers, exept maybe traffic lights on the junction with the Airport Road, this may help getting out of the airport, but will also compound the problems of the traffic already using that road

Gridlock a possibility then ?

I can't see a slip road to the A338 happening this decade! Far too many hurdles to cross. Would require a new junction and flyover on the A338, SSI land to cross etc.

Anyway the authorities don't actually want to encourage passengers to arrive by car. Instead they think they will take to the ridiculousy timed, ridiculousy expensive and ridiculousy empty bus that trundles to Bournemouth travel interchange every hour (well not every hour becuase the service stops before the last of the arrivals at night and doesn't commence again in the morning in time for the first departures).... or perhaps the council / highways expect passengers to cycle to the airport. I do hear that there will be a new cycle rack!

Looks like Thomson Air will continue to base a Boeing 737 800 through the winter of 2010 / 11

The Egypt Sharm service continues throughout the winter as a new route but the Funchal flights stops ( leaving Palmair to operate the service ) and is not operating with the Malaga route re starting in April , at the moment the programme looks like

MON BOH LPA BOH
TUE BOH TFS BOH
WED BOH PHO BOH
THU BOH SSH BOH
FRI BOH TFS BOH
SAT
SUN BOH TRN BOH ACE BOH

So if I need to fly away, holiday or business, Bournemouth is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Another 20 minutes down the road, or via the direct rail-link, there is Southampton with greater choice, better facilities and integrated transport (road, rail and bus links). Sorry Bournemouth, you're way behind the times.

What are you smoking?

Every airport is hopeless from someone's perspective.

LHR - too crowded, too far to walk, too much taxy time, too much airborne holding (worst in the world according to the official stats) too long from the gate to long term car park, and too often a pain for one reason or another.

LGW - too inconsistent on journey times from the BOH area and just a bit too far away.

SOU - Nice to use, and always quick, but too many canx flights, and almost always v. pricey on fares. And that Runway always makes me nervous!

BOH - Nice and local, friendly, quick to get through, poor choice and timetable for biz destinations, but actually quite good for leisure routes. I'll be glad when the construction is over!

BRS - Just always a complete pain to get to. I always regret taking a BRS flight once on the road journey. All that talk of a link from BOH to the spur road... BRS has 5 x pax a year of BOH and has still has much worse road access than just about any airport I can think of! Good choice of routes though!

LCY - always a good back up plan, but the airside terminal is now a mess to use, and increasingly a problem for ground delays once on board.

I see flyBe have announced a 6 times per week MAN-BOH-MAN service to start 27 May.

Perhaps EDI/GLA from BOH might not be too far behind?

Did not see that one comming ! good on Flybe for taking a commitment on Bournemouth with this service

This is exactly what Bournemouth needs a smaller high profile airline and aircraft for a route that is in demand , just like Edinburgh and Glasgow but not a 189 seater plane going at crazy times of the day !

This is indeed really good news for Bournemouth and for the new terminal with a good variety of carriers now prepared to give the region a chance

It will be interesting to see whether Flybe develop their presence at BOH beyond this single route. Can't see them opening a base there due to it's close proximity to SOU but they could operate routes to other UK bases such as EDI, GLA, BHD and BHX.

I certainly would like to see a BHD service and agree that a Q400 would be much more sensible than a 737.
