I also think its the Ryanair way of doing things - a big fanfare announcement of new routes and quietly sweeping the old ones under the carpet

The original post was:
"Bournemouth is the best airport in the world...
comments please..."
My answer is yes, and no.
It serves a route I use (Ryanair to Malaga) but stopped a route I used to use (Ryanair to Prestwick). Maybe not the airports fault though.
Once all the works are finished it should be a good terminal, (until a couple of years ago it still looked like the airport I remember from the 70's) but four things need sorting to make it so.
1 Immigration desks. Have to be the slowest I have come across worldwide. Long queues for one flight is nonsense. God help them if they get busier and have to deal with 3 or more flights at a time.
2 Security. They seem to make it up as they go along. Once passed through security twice in one day with exactly the same hand baggage. First time, no problem, second time they refused two items in my bag. If they aren't allowed why were they passed as OK the first time? They just seem to upset a lot of people.
3 Price of a cup of coffee. I can never understand why small airports think they can charge the same as major airports for basic items when their overheads must be much lower i.e. less staff, smaller facilities etc. Maybe the airport charges extortionate rent?
4 This applies to several airports. One forgets a plastic bag for ones liquids. Bournemouth charge a pound for a bag! You can get 50 for that in Asda! I've travelled all over the world and UK is the only place I have come across that charges for bags. OK, there is a cost involved, and it is the passengers responsibility, but £1 for a bag is taking the p**s!
Apart from that rant, generally not a bad aiport At least I have never, yet, been delayed because of BOH. Delays due to enroute or destination restrictions, but not because of BOH.

I used to like BOH with all its little funnies.
The best was drive up , check in drop bags out of airport down to the local pub , nice food and a beer , back to airport.
Security is a little odd , but I guess the stress protecting the "arrival shed" would get anyone a little strained.
Food and Bev , I hope the new kitchens are more in line with 2010.
I always thought it was odd seeing smokers outside 50 meters from the aircraft.

wetfeet, in answer to your rant ;
what ryanair does is down to ryanair, nothing to do with the airport
immigration- i don't know
security- god knows, same basic training, poorly paid staff as elsewhere, lowest bidder wins the contract etc
coffee and plastic bags- airport makes bugger all from the airlines using it and hence has to claw in any income it can get away with- there is no other way of making any money.

I have to agree with the above post as well
Bournemouth has its faults big time like all other UK airports , it is going through its biggest transition ever with the new terminal about to open this year and still it manages to deal with everything that is thrown at it
Bit like life really !
Lets keep the Bournemouth " thred " professional and current with upto date info as it has continued to do throughout the years , and not let it go down the moan road !

Area 51, I understood BOH were waiting for further deliveries of de-ice fluid before they could depart and the limited stock they did have was being used to protect normal scheduled flights. In this prolonged cold weather it is best practice to disconnect the aircraft batteries of the a320 family if left parked for more than 24hours so I assume this is why engineers may have attended the aircraft.

BOH routes
The airport web site lists routes to Brescia, Verona and Naples but no other details apart from an 0871 number. Anyone any idea who is running them? SWMBO fancies an Italian holiday

SOU-VRN is a Flybe charter flight operated for Inghams. A small amount of seats are also sold directly by the carrier at a very high price. I guess it is more convenient to purchase the whole package.

Answers!
Will the New Departures & Terminal be open for the Summer ?
I believe, it will open in May 2010. Is May late spring or early summer?
When do they plan to start or open the new Arrivals Hall ?
The new arrivals will start once the departures has finished. Recession what recession!
How many Aircraft will be based at BOH ?
There's loads of Aircraft at BOH,have you seen the north side but on the southern side there should be two Ryanair's and a new Thomson 737-800 and the Palmair/Astraeus 737.
Passenger numbers should pick up this summer with loads of new routes.
