Ok this weekend except for the fact that the last Gatwick scraped back to the rock not too long before 10pm on sunday after a late finish on Saturday.
Is this a sign of things to come with 4x LGW a day on a Dash Q 4c?

No doubt it will get worse before it gets better.

Suffered delays a couple of weeks ago on the appropriately registered D-AWDL (dawdle...geddit!). But to be fair most of the delay was down to the Gatwick handling operation - no baggage handlers on late arrival meant no bags off, and then another hour (!) to get the bags on; no tug when ready, and then ATC delays because of the ground delay. All said it was ugly. And the BE rep on the a/c was only authorised to offer soft drinks to pax (who had waited an hour to board, and then an hour plus before doors shut). Not good enough, but, as I say, not all BE's fault.

There are concerns that the new Dash8s will be a tech problem, but I guess any delays from that will be no worse than now. And once the a/c are stable, then hopefully service a la Manx Airlines will return.

That said I suspect many whose connections to their holiday flights have been missed will be wondering whether to go by boat next year. Business pax seem to be staying on the rock unles absolutely necessary, and then using EMX to LCY. I can't remember previously flying on an aircraft off the rock and not recognising a at least a few fellow travellers; yet that has been the experience over the past couple of months. But then again I'm getting older.....

Islo'Man

Flew back to London City yesterday evening, what an eclectic range of aircraft/ operators/ owners on the old rock! Half painted ATR 42 doing the Liverpool run for Austro-Manx and a German registered ATR 42 filling in for someone/ not sure of the destination. Flybe Q400 operating Manchester. Any rumours when the new runway extension begins?

Cheers.

The extension is only on safety grounds, to inprove the run off areas as required by the CAA any will not allow any larger aircraft to operate from the rock.

Oh dear currywurst - must have touched a nerve there. Don't think one paragraph in one post really counts as "keep bashing" - do you?

My observation was based on a my flight ex LGW 15 August on BE4224 scheduled to depart 1230 but eventually departed at 1530 - 3 hours late. Initial delay per flightdeck was due to crew being out of hours and unable to operate earlier rotations into LGW on schedule - a/c arrived at LGW two hours late at 1400. Subsequent delays due to lack of baggage handlers to unload and then load, lack of tug and lastly ATC. All this info advised to us pax by flightdeck.

Pax sat next to me was on previous morning's first flight and told me it was delayed because of missing crew taxi. D-AWDL had operated my flight to LGW on 12 Aug, and as far as I was aware, had been operating flights between 12th and 15th.

But given your comments I've done some research and found that the previous day's flights were operated by FlyBe aircraft, so my apologies for innocently insinuating that both delays were down to WDL. (That would be one lie - not the "lies" you refer to, BTW).

I don't have access to IOM hours of watch extension data; but an analysis of LGW departure data for the last flight each day does show that for the first 20 days of August D-AMGL/D-AWDL generally left on time; but there were two flights cancelled; two were late and certainly on the 15th the schedule was made up by cancelling the afternoon rotation. So that's 5 days' delays out of 20 days....

By now dear reader you must be as bored as I am, so I refer to my original post which was more directed at the need to get things right going forward and create confidence in FlyBe's punctuality and reliability. I hope they do.

No I think that it is going to be later in September, but by all accounts it is going to be something special.
Another first for Flight Support I guess

Executive lounge at Ronaldsway lol. I love those pompus idiots who swipe their card and sit in that poky box room rather then mix with the rest of the pax.

Ah but we "pompus idiots" get a free cup of proper coffee in a morning (or a glass of wine later in the day), rather than paying for overpriced dishwater from the bar.

Hansol, there are times when I agree with you! At IOM, I do not expect to use the new lounge very often (under Priority Pass), because the view from the extended lounge is very nice and it is not usually very crowded and the wait is not very long.

When I have to get to LHR extra early because I have no idea how long those fun people at security will take - and then have the option to sit in hard plastic chairs in a crowded lounge, besieged by people buying stuff and noise from every direction ...?

Then, sitting in a box have a free brandy & coke, is a very simple choice.

How's the Q400 grounding affecting travel to/from IOM? My idea of commuting doesn't seem too workable...

Q400 Grounding

BE MAN & LGW are operating out of the IOM, but with an approx 1hr delay to each. Luckily BE had a spare aircraft to fill the gap which was positioned in, or operated one of the flights in reverse. However, im sure the pax would understand the reason for todays delays when told the facts.

Hello endian675 - BE have done brilliantly today when considering they had 6 a/c down. As far as I could see some IOM services had minimal disruption (a delay or two) but no cancellations that I could see.

Tomorrow is expected to be normal ops.....the BE D4s seem to be fine so should be back in service late tomorrow night if nothing changes overnight.

The problems with Q4's not causing any worse problems than usual at IOM. Unfortunately a 1 hour delay become a regular occurence. This morning ATC slot resulted in a 0750 departure. So everything else delayed as a result. Also MAN has been operated by a DH8 300 so route is unaffected. G-WOWD was tech last night resulting in todays first 4 sectors being cancelled. Hopefully this afternoon will be better. 3W LCY seems to be doing well out of all of this seems first departure of morning usually full!!

Yeah today wasn't great afterall......however the Q4 problems are beyond Flybe's control as is the ATC slot that was referred to.

Just another kick in the teeth for Flybe was that a couple of subcharters also went tech - it never rains but it pours!

The August traffic figures are out - a 7% fall or around 5,200 pax "lost"

http://www.gov.im/airport/enquiries/...l&menuid=11570

Airport director blames this on the loss of the Luton route. Expresses concern over fall in numbers to MAN and LPL, but praises rise of BPL numbers. Expects FlyBe Luton service to save the day.

But ignores:
- Security hassles
- Airline punctuality issues
- APD increase (applies to MAN/LPL but not to BPL 17 seaters)
- Steam Packet reliability and pricing (boat pax are up...)
- interest rates
- reduced movie making
- reduced big construction projects

Bit Nero like, methinks
