And even more airlines cannot be bothered at all to let us know that they axe a route. Routes more than often simply disappear without an official word from the horse's mouth.

I also like the Ryanair way of putting this: "To allow for this expansion, there will be some adjustments on other routes: blablabla". Which, of course, does not fit the definition of expansion at all as it is a re-allocation.

I wonder how long before all the cheaper tickets have gone on the Heathrow, leaving only £300 specials. It's a favourite commute for all the grey suits,so any routes out of Gatwick via the bus will become expensive.
''Thank you for CHOOSING to fly British Airways''....Right

Given the pax figures on LGW it can't be all onward travel (admitedly most of the yield prob comes from Houston pax)

Perhaps EZY would be interested in taking it on?

Or what about Flybe? they serve INV/LGW.

Flybe have a large ad in about a new route to SOU from ABZ.

Nothing else, although local press say JER will also be announced officially, plus more EXT.

Also continued coverage re the BA decision to axe LGW. MD expects to make an announcememnt "in near future". More Orange? Or indeed Flybe? (Or City Star/Eastern... )

So take it Flybe are off the LBA route? The EXT apparently routes EXT-ABZ-INV-EXT? Victory for Eastern on LBA then?

Just heard Mike Rutter confirm that Flybe have expressed an interest in & opened talks with BAA to take over LGW.

BHX 4 times daily M & F, 3 times T W Th.

Wonder how T3 will take the SOU announcement.

Well an update. Not a happy bunny. As our booking ABZ - LGW then LGW to ZRH is on 2 separate bookings BA will not allow us to change our LGW to ZRH flights. I am absolutely gobsmacked. It is not as though I want to cancel, I would still like to get to my Zurich destination and why am I in this situation?? Because they have pulled the route!!

BA have always been my preferred airline but after this I am pretty disgusted

Good to see local Mikey "cor blimey, me old choina, apples & pears" Foote gloating about the rejection post-vote.

So Mikey, what would YOU advocate post-oil? What's that? Bird-watching?

I despair.

Made worse by cooncillors stuck in the "good old days of the 1950s" who still think farming & fishing are the main industries up here & we don't need a $1bn investment.

As Trump Org said, if you want to do business, DON'T come to NE Scotland.

Exactly.

This will be snapped up by somewhere else, be in no doubt, unless Trump appeals.

Richard, agree completely, another missed opportunity. Odd thing is that I expected the Formartine councillors to vote against it and the Infrastructure comittee to pass it okay - not the other way round.

Hope he appeals, this development is of national importance, shouldn't be finally decided by these numpties - after all, look at the state of the infrastructure around Aberdeen, brewery, piss-up, and all that.

The land belongs to him, save for one or two pockets (eg. farmer Forbes).

He's come so far, will he appeal, or decide it isn't worth the extra hassle, given the hassle he's been put through.

Had this been Aberdeen CITY council's decision, then I believe they would have given the OK - they confirmed their support for the plan...but it WASN'T their vote, sadly, but the Shire's & their bunch of numpties.

But it is only 12 miles N of Abdn, plus today's rejection took place in Abdn, so it reflects badly on the city as well as the NE generally.

Still...there'll now be plenty room on the airfield for GA, if it wasn't being priced out of ABZ that is!

Why are they Numpties? Does everything have to be bulldozed over to make way for corporate America. There are hundreds of golf courses already, and Americans are not going to come to Balmedie. It has no history and they can get that at St Andrews,Carnoustie. There are shed loads of quality, manufactured courses in America. Is the course being designed by a Nicklaus,or other classic designer. No!
For once common sense has prevailed.I walk at Balmedie all the time, and I play golf.It would have been a tragedy to see that area wrecked by someone who's only motive is the almighty $.
The odd bizz jet isn't going to make the slightest difference at the airport.
PS. How can people trust someone with a dead squirrel on his head.

Numpties is EXACTLY the word for them...trust they are hiding among the dunes this morning...one of them has allegedly been assaulted, another runs the risk of having his bicycle tyres let down & holes cut in his woolly jumper...

Throw a Dyce - do you honestly believe there's nothing wrong with the infrastructure around the Shire? How long has it taken to get the dualling of the Ellon road being discussed in earnest. They're happy for the usual developers to build housing estate after housing estate yet very little happens to the roads except they get more and more clogged.

The full council are now in an emergency meeting to discuss the decision and the overwhelming public outcry at the decision.

It's the same old story, the majority are in favour but don't voice an opinion and it's the one's prepared to make a fuss that get all the coverage.

Isn't it ironic that the Menie Estate was famous as a hunting and shooting estate where the rich used to blow the wildlife to smithareens, needless to say, this is lost on the environmentalists.

Paxman,
Roads get more clogged because people won't give up cars.Look at the M25;it's a car park.It hasn't got a lot to do with Trumptown apart from making the Balmedie junctions more dangerous,by restricting one of them.
If people moan about the traffic then buy a motorcycle,or get off their fat arses and push bike to work. The Formartine cycle track is always empty.I know cos i cycle to work.
Wonder how much Trump will bribe the Cooncilers to get this through on appeal.

TAD,

Do YOU wear a woolly jumper as well?

Careful you don't bump into Cllr Ford on the way in!

I know we disagree, but c'est la vie, that's the way it is.

I worry about this area post-oil & think this development (I appreciate not on its own) will help promote tourism, as that has to be the future up here...there would be precious little else besides.

Or have I misjudged the future longevity of the oil/gas/energy industry?

I just get frustrated at the lack of development here - no carbon capture, no renewables institute, no bypass, no real progress in Aberdeen in 20+yrs.
