There was talk on extending the terminal and making it two levels, I'd assume top for departures bottom for arrivals, doubt in my lifetime I will see any change Wat so ever at Aberdeen. It's the worst airport I have ever seen in my life an as a frequent flyer both domestic and international I have seen some trulely wonderful and well laid out airports with about the pax figures as Aberdeen, maybe with 2 stories we could get some air bridges connecting to the aircraft???? Or toooooooo much to ask of Abz management

Thomson 2014 Dreamliner
Perhaps this is behind TAD's question? Post from the Thomson thread:
Most likely the B787, the Summer 2014 Dreamliner routes will probably be announced next week when the S14 flights are released.
They will also operate flights from Aberdeen to CFU & DLM, Leeds Bradford to AYT, Bristol to KGS, KVA & RAK, Glasgow to KGS, Southend to IBZ and Birmingham to LEI & CTA for the Summer 2014 season.
I presume if they're not on 23, they will angle park on Std 1...1A or however they designate it.
IF that post is correct, of course.

Thomson issued a couple of press releases today in regards to there Summer 2014 programme. This link TUITravel Media Centre - News - Thomson's summer 2014 launch includes exclusive island hotel and new Sensatori - TUITravel Media Centre mentions the new routes for the Summer 2014, which includes two new routes from Aberdeen to Corfu & Dalaman. Great news for ABZ.

RT,
No I don't know anything about a 787 being used of of ABZ,but a Dalaman route is good news.
It's just reading the press statement ''An ambitious forward-looking country keen to do business with our International neighbours'' and ''The beating heart of Europe's oil and gas economy'' made my eyebrow rise a bit.
Just wondering if the aircraft designed exactly for flying from smaller airports over long range can actually be parked at ABZ.Why do AIA always go on about a runway extension(The Ryanair memorial strip) and then struggle to park a medium size aircraft on the teeny weeny apron.
I suppose a 787 could be used shorter range if it's ETOPS clearance is withdrawn due to the battery issue, but I don't know.Thompson have put a 763 into Dyce before.
Anyway about the terminal...................

When I think about it, I don't think ABZ has ever had a Corfu holiday flight. It only ever used to be 99% Spain in the olden days, & 99% of that Palma!
Are the airport & Ryanair even in dialogue any more?

ABZ Charters
Many years ago (1986 to be precise) Thomson operated a BY732 ABZ-NAP for the summer (as a 'W' from MAN) -it was a disaster.
Then they bravely tried Longhaul, Florida and DomRep on selected departure dates on BY762 which worked a treat in Year1 and was a disatster in year 2 so was dropped.
Then they operated a Fortnighlty MON757 on ABZ-PFO (alternate fortnight was EDI-PFO i seem to recall) but the flight cost was so high (as the aircraft had to position every fortnight from MAN or LGW base) that it ended up loosing money even though early sales and LF was excellent.
It was originally contracted to operate on EuroCypria A320 (but as I remember ECA got their sums wrong and realsied their A320s didnt have the legs to fly nonstop with a full payload so it was hastily recontracted to operate on Monarch)
An ABZ-MLA on KM732 ran for a couple of years with Thomson and BellAir (Malta specialist) sharing the plane.
Didnt Airtours/MyTravel try an ABZ-DLM one season? I cant recall if it actually flew. Part of the problem was that neither Pegasus B738 or Freebird/Onur A320 could operate ABZ-DLM with a full payload (runway length at ABZ was the culprit).
The staple diet of PMI, IBZ, REU, AGP , TFS and LPA has all worked well on charter before.

They are indeed Capt Doony - all 1995 => about 2000. The early ones have the date function operational but later ones do not as the camera I think had a battery for the date function which ran out! At that time, I did dabble in photography at ABZ (haven't done for a while) & got some nae bad stuff. Wish I took more in the 80s though! Wasn't expert in photography particularly or technology, as some of the shots demonstrate!
I am CVG6 Fan on Flickr - feel free to have a look, as I will add more as time goes by.
Thought the BY762 would be of interest seeing as the transAtl holiday flights were mentioned.
Was pleased to get the Saudia TriStar in 1998.

Does anyone know what redevelopments there are at Aberdeen airport on either a month by month or year by year basis ? Was looking at Edinburgh master plan and also their developments and everything is listed clearly and when it's goin to happen. With the extra demand of charter flights, bigger aircraft and hopefully longer routes I'm hoping Aberdeen starts something new soon

Shopping list
ABZ NEEDS
larger lounge.
More MED sized aircraft stands (787) if you wish. But not sure taxiway is up to it
More self manoeuvre stands for freight/Private
More small aircraft stands (j41/s2000/dh4/e170)
International walkway made 2 tier. Arriving and departing layers.
FEGP
Noise barrier for residents in Dyce (shame if it blocks their view)
Longer runway
CAT III
Less handling agents
Front of terminal extended into that unused space between crash barriers.
Redeveloped check in area
Airside baggage reclaim
Better road access.
Better drainage ( grass looks like a swamp)
That will do for now

FNG8010,
A lot of your shopping list has been done in the past.
Larger lounge; Yes and there is the side stands waiting area, plus processing the oil charters passengers elsewhere.
Stands yes;14,15,16,17,1A are new stands, some on old concrete. The rest were repainted with new parking assistance to take larger aircraft.C apron was developed for more parking. The problem of larger aircraft is the max length on the apron was a 767-300,as any longer the tail overhangs the road.
Longer runway yes.To extend again and/or Cat II/III is big bucks.
The terminal check-in was cleared of airline desks to give more room. Also the machines speed things up.
The cargo aircraft have to park on stands 1-4 as that is where the cargo shed is.
Dyce noise is amplified with the shape of Tyrebaggar hill behind reflecting the noise especially from the helis. They spent millions on drainage because of pollution from de-icing fluid. It goes into the settlement pond on the east side.
The grass has always been boggy,as the airport was built in the 30's on swampy ground.
I have seen future plans which include extending the terminal to the south. The cargo shed would have to be moved and a couple of stands squeezed in a circular pattern. That would be a vast improvement for International flights.
The other snag is that the heli companies(remember them) have leased areas, which restrict room to put improvements.
Roads; Ask Aberdeen Cooncil
Baggage Area; That's on their improvement plan.
FEGP: Sorry I'm an old ATCO and I haven't seen one those before.
I think that the BAA under invested in the airport for many years, and the staff have made it work.Perhaps now AIA are more able to throw some money at it,but I think that it will be more changing what they have rather than major new build projects.
