Ok 0253 covman
Just for you, Thomsonfly appear to have a new S09 route in addition to those already announced.
Zante ZTH has appeared in their farefinder section starting 4th May!

Mind you 0523 cov man has pointed us to an interesting article in the Telegraph (cheers covman).
In it Chris Orphanou the airport CEO says how the planning saga has cost the Airport £6.0 million up to now.
A Mr McGuigan, the Coventry Council acting joint chief executive and city development director, claims that the failure to secure the planning application for a new terminal has resulted in "Tui taking business away from the airport and two other (unidentified) airlines not coming to Coventry." Hmm.
Mr Orphanou says he doesn't expect any decision until early 2009!

But then the same edition of the Coventry Telegraph published in an article claims that the airport is owned by Germans - it isn't, that Coventry City Council have nothing to do with it - they own the site and that the airport attracts 12 planes a day too many if we are talking about passenger planes way short if we mean all planes. So not exactly renowned for accurate reporting.

Wizzair to end KTW?
After a prompt on the Belfast thread about BFS-KTW ending next week,
I checked some dates in September for CVT-KTW.
I could not get any flights after Saturday 13/9/08.
Is this correct?
I have not seen any articles or heard any rumours.
Pete

Wizz Air
According to Wikipedia, the Wizz Air route to Katowice will no longer operate after September 14th. Still, however, no official statement from the airline itself or either of the airports concerned regarding the termination.

The court case for CVT is only to determine if the decision made by the Government minister at the Public enquiry was legal or not. If they decide it was not legal then the minister would be asked to reconsider. This is not a rerun of the planning application.
If it was, the downturn in traffic would indicate even less reason to pass the plans.

June passenger figures are out for CVT and show the decline has got worse if anything.
Just 38,303 passengers for the month, a whopping 37.7% down on June 2007!
The rolling year numbers drop to 492,708 - a drop of 19.6%

Didn't Thomson have 4 aircraft based here last year but only 2 now? It does look like a bit of a strategic withdrawal, hope it isn't for the sake of the pax who value the convenience of a small airport and also for the crews "based" here.

No, Thomson had three aircraft last year. The difference is substantially their decision to quit "City Routes", in Coventry's case Paris and Amsterdam. They also dropped Valencia. It will take till October for the effect of this to work out of the system.
The loads on AMS and ORY were not bad. presumably the yields were.

So, 4 aircraft 2yrs ago, 3 last year and 2 this year. Still looks like a phased pullout and Thomson are playing their cards close to their chest.
I don't think AMS, ORY, or BCN fitted in with the charter holiday model.
The 737 300 seems to be heading off to retirement in the next couple of years and I can't really see the 800 operating out of cov on a regular basis unless the WS version represents a viable prospect.
Hopefully there's a solution somewhere because I think the operation at CVT is excellent, much better than BHX for the passengers and crew alike!

I don't think that the departure of Wizz Air really came as a surprise considering the ever-decreasing passenger levels on both the Gdansk and Katowice routes. There are currently quite a considerable amount of cancellations on services to Eastern Europe; namely Wizz Air from Coventry, Norwegian Air Shuttle from Birmingham to Warsaw and SkyEurope, also from Birmingham, to Bratislava.
Admittedly, the latter two may be as a result of Ryanair's expansion from Birmingham, however, as long as the current 'credit crunch' lasts, immigrants from Eastern European countries are quite simply going to seek employment elsewhere.
As for the cargo operations, HDAir last month started a route to Paris, on behalf of TransEuro Air, and rumours suggest that more cargo routes are to launch in the near future, a development of which will hopefully be boosted by the appointment of a new Head of Business Development at the airport.
p.s. Frogga, do you know which cargo routes have allegedly been dropped?
