Think 0100-0800 now, so even worse, think that the original planned closure times were based around the "blue" elephant of T'fly, thought that they may have looked at changing it.

So the Coventry Business Model.....
1. Focus on passenger flights to exclusion of all else
2. Lose passenger flights and say you will concentrate on freight and bizjets
3. Close airport at time freight flights and based bizjets want to fly
4. Sell airport at huge loss or surrender lease to City Council at even bigger loss?
Answers on a postcard to Mr Orphanou
P.S. Reported locally that 18 of the 36 firefighters jobs are going

Or....Property company owning lease applying for change of use to council now that they have made airport business useless. Thus allowing them to do what they do best.....Build wharehouses, Office blocks, or maybe a shopping mall????????????????????????????????

As much as I enjoyed the BD Viscounts of old at CVT and later Air Commuter and its, if I remember correctly, Jetstream 31 and later HS748 (Venture Airways?) i think the time has come to say enough.
Mothball the site, wait for the economy to pick up and then make a giant container park come distribution point of the place. The motorway access via M69, A45, M1 is excellent and wouldn't the nimbies just love all those juggernauts trundling through!

It doesn't matter what they want to do with the site, Warwickshire will put obstacles in the way. I heard that they wanted to use it for the Toyota car plant years ago, but Warwickshire council wouldn't support it.
Warwickshire folk even complained about the Whitley business park just down the A45 - they complained that it would be mean good jobs, and people who had these jobs would want to live in their precious little villages.
Coventry has enough distribution parks, including one on the site of the old peugot factory.

It IS madness and throwing money and jobs away chasing the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. CVT should be, and have been concentrating on its cargo strengths.
By the end of this new appeal, there will be no airline, no markets, no staff left to run the airport.
On a good note - the RFFS at BHX are taking on some of the CVT lads and offering them jobs they are not going to advertise anywhere else or allow anyone else to apply for - so only the CVT lads can apply. Very decent of them - illegal, but very decent.

I don't think it is illegal, However it makes sense as BHX FR will save a tidy sum on training.
How are the night closures affecting freight operations?
I cannot see them winning yet another appeal should they be allowed to carry it forward. As said, in the present climate no one will be interested in something two years away. The industry is changing and it's the smaller airfields that are suffering first. It is doubtful that the LOCO model of old will still need to farm out to wannabe airfields in the future.
How many more millions are they prepared to spend just on lawyers for something they don't even own freehold? It's probably doubtful that the appeal will be allowed.
I still have a sneaky suspicion that they are going through all of this to convince the council to change the lease conditions and do away with the airport altogether....However, that is just my opinion....

They have spent so much on the legal battle that the whole airport is at risk. I guess as soon as they lose the last round in court they will have to write off the costs. In doing so they will have to admit they are no longer a going concern. Keeping on with the legal battle is just digging a bigger hole.

The directors are dellusional.
They stupidly think that Coventry can compete with the likes of Birmingham and East Mids. They are nuts. Pack in the bloody passenger flights.
You've got a lovely apron that is now totally unused that they could build into a biz jet hub. Theres regular biz jet flights that could operate out of there. Cargo operations at night out of some refurbished hangers, and a proper GA terminal with training through the day, and attract some larger aircraft.
Coventry hasn't made a penny from Thomson, the amount of staff required for their half full flights has not been enough to make money. They should get it out of their heads and focus the money and investmet on something that will make the airport money and bring the jobs back.

BHX Jobs
There are always experienced RFFS staff moving from one airport to another these days - some of the FZO lads are considering a move as things a bit rocky there and might well have a case for equal ops on this one. If I were one of of the 18 CVT lads keeping my job I'd be applying for the BHX vacancies too - far more secure a future with the money wasting games going on at CVT.

Thats what we've been saying. Any employee at coventry now will take the first oppertunity to jump on a new job because the fun of working at coventry has gone out of it. Half of peoples friends and co workers have been sacked and their job is never going to be secure, especially with the forcast of even more money being wasted. Meaning the staff levels are only going to reduce further.

I notice on their website that they have been trying to recruit ATC staff since July....Why would anyone take a leap of faith to work there at the moment?
There is not even a guarantee that the appeal will be allowed......

The appeal will just eat up lots more money. With no airline likely to move in at Coventry for may years it will be wasted money even if it could overturn the verdict. Having no airlilne makes the case even weaker.
The more the opening times are cut the less income the airport will have. I cannot see it being in buisness past March 09. What would normaly happen is that a new buyer would turn up. I cannot see anyone getting a loan on an airport with declining income this year or next.

Illegal??? Equal Ops???
JB 204
Companies these days have to demonstrate their Corporate and Social Responsibilty (CSR). With locally trained/skilled workers being made redundant, BHX RFFS will be able to justify offering any positions that may arise in the near future without fear of the PC brigade. Local jobs for local people.
