I don't think that the departure of Wizz Air really came as a surprise considering the ever-decreasing passenger levels on both the Gdansk and Katowice routes. There are currently quite a considerable amount of cancellations on services to Eastern Europe; namely Wizz Air from Coventry, Norwegian Air Shuttle from Birmingham to Warsaw and SkyEurope, also from Birmingham, to Bratislava.
Admittedly, the latter two may be as a result of Ryanair's expansion from Birmingham, however, as long as the current 'credit crunch' lasts, immigrants from Eastern European countries are quite simply going to seek employment elsewhere.
As for the cargo operations, HDAir last month started a route to Paris, on behalf of TransEuro Air, and rumours suggest that more cargo routes are to launch in the near future, a development of which will hopefully be boosted by the appointment of a new Head of Business Development at the airport.
