There is no prospect of the airport being re-developed into warehousing as BeFree suggests. CAFCO merely have a lease on the airport from Coventry City Council. They either operate an airport or surrender the lease to the Council.
The planning authority for the airport is Warwick DC who, I am sure, would also point out that most of the land is in the greenbelt.
When it is said "just freight left", what are you supposing will happen the the considerable bizjet and GA traffic? In my view, the way forward is to develop all aspects of the traffic, not to rely on any one source of business.

This will dangerously undermine the efforts Whizz are trying to put in place in Cov.
These routes aren't going to take hold overnight but I'm sure once Ryanair start offering some 99p each way seats, well, its a no brainer.
I appreciate that planning appeals take time to put together but what are the alternatives should this fail?
BHX are now looking at the application for a runway extension as their better option to the second runway, this to ideally be in situ for when the 2012 Olympics bandwagon rolls.
Could CVT going back to a strong cargo night op and running a prestige Bizjet terminal during the day be the answer?

Coventry are advertising for a Head of Business Development. A similar role was advertised last year, presumably not successfully filled. This time the brief is much broader, with less emphasis on passenger flights:-
1. Establishing links with Commercial Airlines with the aim of developing new opportunities for Airlines and new routes for passengers.
2. Assist in the development and influencing the concept of a new FBO for the Airport.
3. Maintaining and developing relationships with our existing customer base in General Aviation and Freight businesses.
4. Establishing new business in the area of Commercial, General Aviation and Freight with the former taking a high priority.
Hopefully they are seeing the light about a spread of business and being more realistic about what is achievable.

When is the 100 day decision time up for Thomson? I think the FR decision may influence that heavily.
The Business development officer will certainly have his work cut out. I can't see anyone who is good at the job and does a bit of research, taking it.
I still haven't seen any statements from the owners of CVT about...Well anything really. I would have thought a statement re. Ryanair may have been given.

The 100 day review by TUI (thomsonflys owner) is due to report on the 29th Jan. There are flights every day on the booking system but they may be operated by overseas based aircraft. As I have already the the company operating the airport has yet to file its 2006 accounts at Comp House. The 2005 accounts were quilified with a statement about it still being a going concern.

I love reading accounts. You can know a vast amount by reading them and then looking deeper into the numbers. For example you can divide income by the number of planes that land and get the income per plane.
As you may notice I am a numbers person. I see the world though numbers and can make a good amount of money spotting trends before anyone else.
not filling accounts for 2006 is bad as it is now 2008.

Coventry Airport have made a statement about Ryanair at BHX although perhaps not the one you might expect.
The investment was welcomed at Coventry Airport, at Baginton, where Thomsonfly also runs low cost flights to Europe.

Coventry Airport boss Chris Orphanou said: "We believe aviation should be allowed to develop in the Midlands for the benefit of the community as a whole and welcome the opening up of the region by new carriers."

I can't understand what the obsession was with wondering about Coventry releasing any kind of press release following FR's BHX announcement.
Did BHX release a press release when TOM announced the commencement of CVT operations? Or on October 9th 2006 when W6 announced they would start services at CVT?
Did LPL release a statement concerning FR and EZY at MAN? LBA about TOM at DSA? NCL about GSM at MME? CWL about FR at BRS? EXT about the new BE routes from NQY?
Befree, just to add, the 100 day review might not necessarily be about which airports are to stay or go, might just be how the company is to be structured. A review of the merging of the TUI Holidays business, ironing out any synergies/duplications of roles etc...
By the way, this is not me saying that I think TOM will stay, because I don't think they will. Their business model has changed back to the charter market, which is in decline (short haul rapidly so).

Wizz
Surely he Polish market is still growing, Thomson have co- existed to the sunshine routes with airlines from BHX, EMA and LUT.
Alot of the Coventry markey is in competition with EMA and Luton and it has done okey.
WIZZ are one of the best known brands in Poland.
I do not see a problem.

Expanding their business
I can quite believe they are trying to expand their business. I hear they are not re-newing Midwest Executive's lease does anyone know if the airport are going to take over the FBO or is Bluecity Aviation going to take over as they are at present advertising for Operations Officers?

My understanding is that Blue City Aviation will be taking over the FBO at CVT early February, looks like they've made a lot of investment, refurbished hangar, ground equipment and staff, should hit the ground running.

Heard on of the Neptune a/c come in with an engine failure tonight. Understand it was an F27. When he was talking to BHX Approach you would have thought he always flew around on one engine the way he tacked the fact he'd had to shut one down on the end of his call. No point in making a drama out of a crisis
