Any chance of RE taking on routes from SNN as a result of FR's spat?

Have the facilities at DUB been upgraded and allow connections to domestic flights airside? When I connected from EI to KIR and NOC some time ago I could not do it airside.
Kind of. You can connect in Dublin staying airside (on any flight, not just domestics) but you do have to go through security again. That should be sorted when Terminal 2 opens though.

New Routes

The agreement with Aer Arann will cover 12 routes, giving Aer Lingus new services to Bristol, Blackpool, Cardiff, Durham and Doncaster/Sheffield in England, together with Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland. While the flights will use Aer Arann ATR 72 turboprop planes, they’ll be branded “Aer Lingus Regional,” with tickets sold through the larger carrier’s Web site.

so what does this really mean for Aer Arann

EI/RE have no chance in competing with FR on many routes but they will be able to find niches which FR haven't/will not operate on (BLK, DSA etc.)

The only airline that could dream of competing with FR is U2 and they have made their future plans very clear...

So is it going to be the case that the GWY and WAT bases are going to be stuck permanently with the more 'classic' -200's? Dident notice any mention of new deliverys amongst the press releases.

There have been a number of comments on various forums since the announcement that this could lead to a full-blown merger of EI/RE. From a customer viewpoint I hope that doesn't happen. RE has worked exceptionally hard to build a brand and services to airports that both EI & FR gave up on.

No money is changing hands in this deal, i.e no equity swaps anything like that. I hope from a job security point of view this proves to be good. I want to see RE thrive and hopefully this deal will do some good things for both carriers, and specifically for the workforce. I can't say I am surprised that they are going to use ATR72500s on this, but I for one will be very sad to see the celtic rings disappear, this is a very unique and eye catching livery. For goodness sake RE paint the fleet!!

Here's hoping RE becomes a stronger airline as a result of all of this, not just another carrier swallowed up followed by service cuts soon after.

The announcement of this agreement is the beginning of what I hope will be a long relationship between the two companies. As others have mentioned before, I hope the Aer Lingus Regional banner will apply to a limited number of aircraft so that the Aer Arann brand which many have worked long and hard to preserve can live on.

On the subject of the current state of the ATR42-300 & ATR72-200 fleet, I have to agree they could do with a refresh. Passing through DUB yesterday I saw one of the more "aged" ATR42's pushing back. It's general appearance was disappointing and while cash is tight, I think a fresh livery should be on the job cards for the next letter check.

On an engineering subject, does anyone know why the early ATR 42's have an additional air intake / scoop beneath the primary engine inlet? It appears only on the "Classic" ATR42's and is not on any of the newer ATR72's. I believe Fokker 50's also had the scoop so assume it's related to the PW100 somehow???

This is really a win win deal for both airlines feeding passengers into Dublin/Cork for Aer Lingus and feeding passengers through Dublin & Cork to Aer Arann destinations in Ireland, UK and France

According to Jethro's website Aer Arann has 4 x AT72 outstanding to be delivered with no delivery date.

The AT72 are really the only decent choice due to possible weight restrictions on a AT42 especially with a few heavy transfer bags.

This could may well lead to more aircraft for Aer Arann. Don't forget this is just early days in the Aer Lingus/RE deal.

From Dublin for Aer Lingus Regional?

Otherwise, they already serve both airports. Manchester from Galway and Waterford and Edinburgh from Galway and Cork.

EI/RE

I was just looking at the Aerlingus/Aer Arann alliance as it applies on New York Cork via Dublin. EI105 arrives DUB from JFK 0515 RE 607 dep DUB 1015 Arr ORK 1110

EI108 arrives DUB from JFK 0935 RE623 dep DUB 1500 Arr ORK 1555

If that's what they mean by connectivity then I'd rather travel via LHR or AMS. Of course people living near regional airports do not have that option but there's always the train or the bus.

Hi Ryan,

One thing to note here in relation to Cork routes, the interlining agreement is already up and running on the Dublin / Cork route and it is not part of the Aer Lingus Regional agreement. While the connectivity isn't ideal, Aer Arann also have commercial issues to consider when scheduling the flights (i.e. Ryanair).

I think a note on the presentation is key....if you look under the route map it says "Phase 1". We may see the connectivity in general across the network improve as both EI and RE progress along the scheduling learning curve.

All the best,

P2C

Does anyone know how long the EI franchise agreement is for??

This is great news for the irish aviation industry. An increase in the number of destinations served and a struggling regional carrier gets a great opportunity.

christoph mueller has also mentioned new SNN routes that an A320 could not serve so i'm guessing RE will get that work.

Are all RE ATR 72-500's going to EI regional??
