Examinership is generally used when either
- a company's difficulties are cashflow based and will be cleared by future revenues
- a potential investor has been identified

Since we're heading into the lean months, the first doesn't seem very likely, so there is presumably a potential investor knocking around, but who?

EI seem the most likely, but wouldn't that kind of investment have to be cleared by Ryanair considering the size of their shareholding in Aer Lingus?

not to mention the Aran Islands themselves
Aer Arann Islands is a separate organisation from Aer Arann and is unaffected

Hichachoc :

You are an idiot! RIP my Bo**ix! It's unsafe for some people to have a brain. Have a little consideration for staff and people who maybe directly affected by this (nothing is going to happen anyway). Just another spotter with an itchy finger!! That is all.

840, if your last paragraph is correct it shows just how twisted the FR involvement in EI is - what a mess.

God save us all!

The title from the OP serves just to illustrate the intelligence of some individuals, or lack thereof!!

Examinership - Let me google that for you Vs Receivership - Let me google that for you

All I was trying to point out is that the PSOs have been flown by various airlines over the past two decades and thus they are not the exclusive domain of Aer Arann. Being locally based allows Aer Arann to offer the best deal in a tender, but if no local airline is around, other airlines have a bigger incentive to bring forward a proposal as they become more competitive. For example, airbaltic has tendered for domestic PSOs in Germany in the past, and I seem to recall that VLM also tendered for some Irish routes.

I agree that the whole situation is not getting easier because more and more suitable aircraft and airlines disappear. In the end, however, it all boils down on how much government is willing to spend on a PSO contract. If the deal is attractive enough, there will always be a provider.

Well that would certainly be an issue. I fly from Dublin to the Isle of Man twice per year.

CityJet is a part of Air France - KLM. Not sure why they would have any interest in swallowing RE?

Hopefully Aer Arann will come out of examinership, it'd be a shame for them to go under having survived the recession this long, especially when things are starting to pick up.

If the worst comes to the worst though, I hope Aer Lingus take them over and at least keep the airline Irish. I'd hate to see the Aer Arann brand taken over and replaced by some foreign airline like FlyBe.

For Aer Lingus, the situation certainly is uncomfortable as they must make sure that Flybe does not establish itself in DUB and ORK by taking over Aer Arann. So taking over RE or propping them up is probably the lesser of two evils.

According to the Irish Independent,
Senior sources at Aer Lingus last night rejected suggestions that they would build on their existing franchise arrangement by taking an equity stake in Aer Arann. "We're not going to take a stake," one insisted.

"There's no truth in that whatsoever."
Then again, this is the Indo...

I have been told that two parties are intrested in buying the airline, I hope it is not FR or we will see a pull from CWL.

schools

Disappointed to hear the news about aer aranns financial problems...its a worry for the staff as i have a few friends there...hopefully there will some investors willing to have a look at least...however...

I would love to be a fly on the wall in ptc and some of the other flight schools today with management trying to explain and encourage students to continue with their training....would nt liketo have a lot of money borrowed now and just about to finish training...anyone in the aer arann hold pool now must be fairly disillusioned...

Chin up to all working in are arann

Any sale or restructurlng will need to be concluded quickly. Otherwise advance bookings could be badly affected with a subsequent impact on cashflow.

Advance bookings

Well as long as the media stays positive on it. Most likely it won't be a problem. With 2 suitors already lined up - I suspect this is more a conclusion than a beginning of the horse trading. And with a bit of luck it will be a positive outcome.
RE have a good team and no doubt they'll stear it well.
