Ryanair won't want to be seen to be responsible for undermining the new service. There are a few more imaginative ways to react than a 2nd Daily SNN-BVA service. Watch this space.

Ryanair already said months ago that in Summer 2008 they would increase the frequency on Beauvais. I don't see why they'll not do that just because City Jet (230 euro return Merci, Au revoir) are flying to CDG.
Shannon - Beauvais and Shannon - Charles de Gaulle are 2 very mutually exclusive routes.

So I suppose the Atlantic Connectivity Committee will disband now?
They can hardly continue to demand that Aer Lingus reintroduce Heathrow

A PSO would have to be tendered via the Official Journal so I'd say not.

Read in the Examiner today that the CEO of WX said that they will look into the possibility of a LCY flight in the new year, provided CDG is a success.

Its been revealed today that Delta will continue SNN-ATL next summer. With a 752- the third longest Delta 757 route.

From what I have seen on the LF's last summer, flights went out with around 170 pax per flight, average. That was on a B764. In that case the 752 should be flying with average 80% load factors!

Get moving CityJet!!

So I'm trying to book flights from Canada into Ireland for March on expedia and up pops a YYZ-CDG-SNN, (though curiously listed as a 145 rather than a RJ85 on the Cityjet bit).

So I switch to the AF website to see if they have any better deals and it tells me "there are no flights" - but checking the CDG-SNN schedules says yes there is! If this is being sold as a hub connection, it's sort of important that the airline actually lets you book on it...

Mark,

KLM.ie will give you prices for flights into ORK and DUB, if this is any good to you. These will be via AMS with KL/NW. Alternatively ba.com will also give prices directly into ireland, as will aa.com. AC also fly directly into DUB, and offer some really good fares. US are not bad either. There are lots of good fares out there, and lots of airline options, as long as you are not too determined to fly into one specific airport.

Brian.

Brian - thanks but klm.ie only applies if flying out of, rather than into Ireland.

Unfortunately if you live in Canuckistan, you're diverted to nwa.com which is a bit of an ugly baby. AC only fly direct into DUB after 1 May but at least they are listing their LHR BD codeshare now, which they didn't used to.

Have had some very helpful and detailed PMs from someone in the AF-Cityjet know (don't know if said person is "known" on proon in that capacity so will reserve his/her identity ) who pointed out that that a same day SNN-CDG-YYZ can't be made as the connections are optimised for east bound rather than west bound, which given SNN's west bound connections is understandable.

The expedia price I saw earlier turns out to be an overnight connection at CDG. That's one booking engine quirk I've long wished could be turned off on ba.com.

He/she did point me towards the open jaw YYZ-CDG-SNN/DUB-CDG-YYZ which is priced comparably.

Devonair, it's on the list, but using a US connection means a midday or early afternoon departure ex YYZ - using BA, AF, KL, AC etc. allows an evening dep which in my case is preferable.

Come off the stage...

http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0115/shannon.html

Shannon Development says it has not ruled out the possibility that Aer Lingus may re-instate the Shannon-Heathrow service, which ended last Sunday evening after 60 years.
These guys are totally disallusioned!

Maybe they read this. I woudnt bet a cent on these slots remaining in Belfast but I wouldnt share Shannon Developments optimisim either. Now that EI have got over the Shannon shambles they are free to do what they want now with these slots, and they will.

Air France rejects claims it is to axe Shannon cargo service
29/01/2008 - 15:14:23

Air France this afternoon rejected claims it is axing a cargo service from Shannon Airport.

It's being claimed the company was preparing to end the service after twenty years in operation.

The Mayor of Clare, Patricia McCarthy, said she had information that Air France is preparing to relocate the once-weekly cargo service to Dublin Airport.

Air France says no such decisions have been taken.

CONFIRMATION that Delta Air Lines is to continue its summer service between Shannon and Atlanta demonstrates Shannon Airport can "retain a strong share of the Irish transatlantic market following the full implementation of Open Skies", according to airport director, Martin Moroney.
Four flights a week to one of the world's busiest airport will recommence on June 3, the American airline has confirmed.

And from July 1 to October 1, there will be a daily service to Atlanta. This is in addition to Delta's year-round service to New York's JFK.

"Shannon is an important market for Delta and we are delighted to offer our Irish customers this additional service, providing added convenience and travel options to a wide range of destinations throughout the US, Latin America and the Caribbean," commented Siobhan Scanlon, Delta's sales manager in Ireland.

"The seasonal flight operated last summer and proved extremely popular with business and leisure passengers alike."

Open Skies, the international aviation treaty that heralds the ending of the Shannon stopover, comes into effect this spring and airport bosses say Shannon is well-placed to meet the challenges involved, provided its independence comes free of debt.

"Delta Air Lines' resumption of their Shannon-Atlanta service for the 2008 summer season is very welcome," Mr Moroney said.
