Ya, and EI did'nt fly to Bru that day. Don't get too hung up about flights from Cork to the US. The main, thing going for it really is the N20, if that becomes the M20 god help us here in Cork.

Official press release above.
Suppose thatll even out a few things, good to get more growth at the TATL side. Still disappointing on the European and UK side of things.

It's harsh to blame management this was the same management being praised for getting all these routes with Ryanair - the reality is a lot of them probably weren't sustainable and with Ryanair shifting more and more capacity to primary airports across Europe the marginal stuff at Irish regional airports is the stuff that's suffering not sure management can do anything really about this - all in all Shannon still has a decent network

A decent Network? You mean no MAN, EDI, BRS connectivity anymore? A few pick and mix European routes? Besides TATL, Shannon has lost more than its gained. Look at PAX nums. This year around 1.8mil can be expected. Not exactly a decent network.

The delta increase should offset the loss of Poitiers and nice they could still secure some additional capacity which would even out the loss, could we see phl be extended next to a full season or even year round?

Where do you think Shannon should be exactly ??? They had 1.3m not so long ago - BRS and EDI will return sooner rather than later - there's a finite Market from regional Ireland not sure what your expectations are - I'm sure management are doing all they can to restore the UK routes - carriers obviously not interested - can't force them into the route!!!

This year might see an extra 400,000 in pax compared to 2012. Growth will stagnate or even slip into decline next year. EDI and BRS are nowhere to be seen.
Despite Ryanair being the main area of growth, they have also knocked out 3 existing routes (MAN,EDI,BRS) with other airlines and reduced the frequency and capacity of another, BHX. A great load of Transatlantic capacity has been gained, that's great for the airport and probably the most valuable traffic of the whole operation.
We need our UK connectivity back, and we need access to a 2nd hub, be it AMS, CDG, MAD or even IST would do. A few European bucket and spade routes are vital too.

In my opinion don't think any of above routes are viable and the fact no airline has come in on them probably proves the point (aer lingus and city jet butch tried CDG and failed miserably )- Shannon has plenty of bucket and spade routes and practically connected to every available sun spot in Spain - the fact nice And Poitiers have been pulled prob tells ya they have maybe too much sun choice - with knock and cork also well served with sun capacity and Dublin heaving with same there's a finite market for these type of routes and ryanairs reduction in capacity fr Both knock Shannon and cork in this regard obviously tells a tale!!

CDG with Cityjet was very successful actually, but as the above poster has stated Ryanair on Beauvais and Heathrow back it couldn't last. The high fares on the E145 and RJ85 were also a factor.
Aer Lingus wasn't successful due to the timing, who wants to go to Paris at 4pm? Not as many as if the times were 10am-12pm
Nantes was successful, but Poitiers is in the middle of nowhere and nobody has heard of it, yet it achieved a LF of 69% in June which is amazing for such a stupid route.
The fact is Shannon can achieve more growth, a motorway and the loss of a few transatlantic flights stopping doesn't result in a loss of well over half the market of PAX ) (PAX went from 3.7mil to 1.4mil,)
Also Fly Bill, looking over your posting history you seem to love to be the bearer of bad news for SNN, and correct anything incorrect and bear all the good news for your NOC airport. NOC-KUN wasn't being dropped no?

So may I ask where, in your opinon, can Shannon achieve further growth? If you think there is very little growth to be had, can you explain where all the passengers went when numbers fell from nearly 3.8mil to just under 1.4mil in a few short years?
My point being that there is growth to be had, I'm just not sure the management are really going about it the right way. The loss of stobart was a massive hit for the airport.

I think 2.5mil is a realistic goal for the next few years, now how are they going to make it happen?
Pulled this article out after a bit of internet searching : O'Leary no fool as Ryanair announces more routes from Shannon | The Clare People
Seems O'Leary was a fool pity the routes didn't materialise. The summer schedule for Shannon will be finalised in the coming days, Malaga 4pw June July (No change) Alicante 3pw June July (Was MAR-JULY last year), Palma 3pw June July August (Was June July last year) and lanzarote is 2pw JUN/JUL/AUG (JUN/JUL last year)
When are American Airlines, United Airlines, Subway and aAer Lingus to confirm their summer schedules?
