Don't forget the pre-clearance advantage through SNN as well ...

Ryanair

At this stage, I'd take it as Ryanair won't add anything to the SNN schedule. Its very rare that RYR add anything this late.

What I would look out for is that EIN substitute in for the BOS service this summer. The 767 isn't returning. Some exciting rumours about what they will use.

No new routes from cork knock or Shannon by Ryanair in 2016 must be first time in a fair few years this has been the case - assuming nothing new going to be launched at this stage

Shannon CEO Neil pakey leaving the job in June - not having his contract renewed Irish Independent hinting at a falling out behind the scenes - surprised as I thought by all accounts he was doing a good job - maybe the board want more agressive growth than he delivered

Growth is down to more than the CEO and if that's the reason he was pushed, if he was, it's very harsh. Over the last five years, Shannon was a tough sell to airlines and tenants and the transformation that has taken place is fantastic to see.

Expeditions were way too high and until the catchment area stop looking east alongside Ryanair looking for 'discounted' (unsustainable) landing fees, managing Shannon as an independent entity will be somewhat of a poison chalice.

But there's still ALOT of growth to be had. Main points IMO:

*UK connectivity. Putting it nicely even with the return of EDI, its Sh*t. MAN down to a disgraceful 5pw next year! That's opposed to a 3pw LPL Ryanair and 3x daily MAN with Aer Lingus Regional before Mr.Pakey had his night in bed with MOL. Prices to MAN will likely be eye watering during next summer.

*A "quirky" sun route. Izmir last year had properly amazing loads (well into the 90%'s) and with Sunways onion fares the yield was also very high. Sadly, Izmir is cut (Possibly to do with the recent going ons relatively close to that part of the world, less market demand.) Somewhere different like Greece would be a great addition.

*A hub airport. Heathrow is great, but not everything. Even something like BMI baby at Bristol, connecting to to Lufty German hubs, KLM to AMS, AFR to CDG, even IBE to MAD. Really something to work on.

*Is the American market saturated enough yet? No. Seems no one is willing to back down and with the recent return of connecting EDI pax (cha ching) as well as a strengthened IAG, I can see more growth here.

Over the next few years I can see a strong strengthening in the Eastern European market, with the Irish economy recovering, and a strengthening on city breaks like the current popular Berlin and Krakow. I'd also imagine you can get a few more Sun pax, to places like LPA, IBZ, BCN.

EI have the AMS interlining with KLM sown up. KLM have an agreement with their unions that codeshares can only be offered on non KLM metal on 2 routes per country, hence DUB and ORK in Ireland. KLM sending an F70 to SNN like they do in BHD might sound plausible at first, but hitting their partner in EI like that would be shooting themselves in the foot. FRA? The daily B735 was dropped years ago and hasn't returned despite our economy booming again. CDG was tried and dropped by more than one carrier, and both of those were before SNN's biggest obstacles were built, the M7 and M4.

People in Clare, Limerick and south Galway might default to Shannon, but outside of that those who would have previously no longer do, because they get cheaper fares and multiple frequencies out of DUB. I'm firmly in the SNN catchment, but many who used to be no longer are.

Shannon sold their soul for the second time to Ryanair and this murdered their EIR base there - Manchester x3 daily now x5 weekly.

Shannon doesn't have the corporate traffic to make a BMiR operation work.

With CDG tried by WX and EI, it won't return. I doubt Transavia will give Paris a go.

They didn't exactly sell their soul, Ryanair haven't THAT much in SNN at the moment. The whole Manchester Fiasco is ridiculous though. Something should have been done about that. Anyway from what I hear year round yield is actually quite high, its more of an aircraft shortage issue. Expect 7pw-10pw for next winter, or maybe summer 2017 at a stretch.

Shannon Airport sees 5% passenger increase in 2015

1,714,872 pax in 2015, growth of around 5%. Should my prediction of modest Ryanair increase for next winter come about, I'd expect the same growth for 2016, just breaking the 1.8mil mark.

Where do you think the growth will come from in relation to Ryanair ? UK growth or sun? Hard to imagine them launching any mainland Europe services in winter!

Mostly through UK capacity increases, maybe a canary island increase (which by the way are doing exceptionally well this winter). An Eastern European increase or route is possible too.

Sadly yes. Omni were apparently refusing to improve the service so Aer Lingus told them where to go, and then they agreed to service improvements. Better IFE, an Aer Lingus cabin crew member, etc.

Interesting one - don't see this getting approval for a may start And even if they did very late to market - even so if gets go ahead for 2017 be very interesting to see how it does - no doubt EI not be happy taking market share from their Boston services

Will probably be something unusable like 1pw anyway so will hardly affect current services, unless the USPC is popular from CDG. Just a good addition to the network. Should strengthen business ties between Rhode Island and here.
