At last! Some good news (or indeed, news). That'll make for a busy end to the Thursday flying program (relatively speaking). Three 737-800s in an hour? Could lead to a very crowded departure lounge!
Cost savings ?
Rather than fantasy dressed up as a 20 year plan, how about some cost savings to reduce the burden on the airport owners?

Bad Bear,
I don't see your point? There are many Airports on the mainland that remain open and operational that are a lot worse PAX wise than LDY.
On closer inspection the BHX Thursday flight seems to operate 06/06 til 29/08. I don't know BHX sectors but maybe Olton Pete could tell us if there would still be a gap to keep the LDY flight going on the Thursday?

Second flight STN - LDY on Mondays and Fridays seems to have vanished as of 1st July. Is this the beginning of the FR revenge on STN?

Having a look at car parking for a week in August at all 3 NI Airports. The following prices were quoted:
LDY - £19.00
BHD - £29.99
BFS -£40.00
LDY is still the cheapest parking of all 3 Airports. Surely this is a big coup when folk are choosing a flight?

Jet2
Jet2 will operate LS381 to Tenerife South from City of Derry tomorrow. I'm sure the Jet2 weekend flights to TFS & ACE will also use CoDA if things aren't resolved at BFS. Good to see and i'm sure will generate a bit of revenue for the airport.

I don't think the CoC is having the big inward tourist boom the city was expecting. Sure extra tourists will come as the weather betters but I think this year's figures will be pretty static. The figures from the other 2 Belfast Airports also aren't great. Then again RYR have put BHX X5 weekly from June & FAO X3 weekly for July & August so are forward bookings positive?
The city has seen a 20% increase in visitors (BBC News - UK City of Culture: The first 100 days)
The fact of the matter is, the vast majority of these come from overseas. Places like the US and Canada as well as Europe and Oz/NZ. Now, unless they can actually fly to LDY from where they live, then their arrival to the city will have no impact on the airport. Impacts on hotel occupancy and turnover in bars and restaurants will be much more positive.
I expect to see numbers rocket for the Fleadh in August when Irish living in London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Liverpool fly over for it.

So, hotel bookings in the city are up 171%: Massive culture boost for Derry hotels - bookings up 171% - Business - Derry Journal
Hopefully, the airport will benefit from this. Also, I was reading an article the other day (don't have the link) about the Fleadh in August, and there was a piece about the number of charter flights that are being organised in the States to come over for it. I wonder will these fly into Derry, or would BFS be the only option? (I know it's entirely dependent on aircraft etc).
