"Pre boarding" - does that mean you get on before you get on. How about just a boarding area?

FR have started to release Summer 2013 flights today:
STN X9 weekly
LPL X7 weekly
BHX X4 weekly
So far it is identical to last year, worrying that PIK hasn't been added with the other domestic routes?

Surely in the city of culture year we should see some sort of increase in frequency? STN deserves to be 2x daily all year round as well.
Fingers crossed for the return of BE.

Came to LDY from PIK last year (very nice very interesting place despite its troubles) so quite an avid reader of this thread now.
I'm not sure the City of Culture title is going to see people flocking to Derry en masse I don't think. I would be surprised if many Germans/Frenchies are even aware such a thing exists.
I would like to see LDY do we'll but I wouldn't be holding my breath for any sort of significant expansion from FR.

European route? I'm still waiting for the promised move of FR's BHX route to EMA.......
CaptainDoony, apart from the circa 300,000 people expected for the Fleadh Cheoil, the 50,000 expected to turn up for the duration of the exhibition of the Turner Prize, the 25,000 expected for the Jazz Festival, the tens of thousands of others expected for the various other events/gigs/exhibitions, you're right. COC won't see very many coming to Derry.
The game changer for the city was the Lonely Planet's claim that Derry is the 4th best city on the planet to visit in 2013.
Regardless of the above, I agree. FR won't be adding any charity-routes. Another carrier, with smaller equipment is (still) needed.

I don't believe i mentioned mass expansion also as far as im aware 'european' covers many countries within Europe, therefore FAO, ALC & TFS falls with this definition. As i said earlier patience is required
Who mentioned mass expansion? I'm just intrigued by this:
...which would rule out FAO, TFS and ALC. Ergo, a new destination is coming. Patience is a virtue as the saying goes. Just spit it out man!!
and according to my source one new route is deffo confirmed

There's absolutely no denying there will be visitors but no airline is going to launch a scheduled route that would cater for a few festivals and then cease to make business sense.
LDY might get the odd charter owing to this COC title but the vast majority (like 95%) of people going to these festivals would go via Belfast/Dublin or ferry or drive.
From what I've read on here it seems that all hopes for expansion are being pinned on the COC title. Lets say by some miracle FR did launch a few euro routes - how many would last beyond December 2013? Zip.

Agree
There may be a few more pax on the FR routes but most will drive or use the belfast airports
Cannot see the posh people for the turner prize using FR they will probably use BA and have their chauffeur meet them

Only in Northern Ireland could people who may be interested in art be described this way:
Having said that, I largely agree with the comments above. There will be a boost to pax numbers at LDY as a consequence of people perhaps only coming for the weekend, or a few days, and not wanting to have to travel from Belfast Airport, or Lough Neagh Airport, but I can't see there suddenly being a load of new routes. Some capacity increases, especially to STN, would prove popular.

With all the speculation of euro routes being launched in my opinion I can't see it happening. I'm sure there are Germans/French people out there who would love to go see Derry in 2013 but probably don't even know that Derry even has an airport! They would probably just travel through Dublin/Belfast
I think outside of the UK hardly anyone would realise that Derry has an airport! What with it being quite small.

Why would folk not know Derry had an airport? The City Of Culture programme clearly lists LDY in the 'getting here' section as does Lonely Planet! Both are being viewed worldwide at the minute as the Programme has been shown in Australia this week.
You're quite right Mlinnie.
Why would any prospective visitor to Derry know the place has an airport? I mean, if visiting a place for the first time, it's highly unlikely one would do ANY research into that place.
And even if you did do ANY research, the fact that all guidebooks (Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Wikitravel etc), and the city's own tourist website all refer to City of Derry Airport in the "getting there" section, would be irrelevant.
I'd say that outside of Northern Ireland, most people are unaware of BFS not actually being in/all-that-near Belfast. It doesn't stop people flying there.
As for Euro routes, Carn seems to think he's know something, though when asked directly about what it is he knows, he chooses not to answer. So you're probably right.
