What about Helicopter-Charter, don't they operate out of the airfield doing training and charter flights and their maintenance side looking after a number of helicopters.
I also thought they have only just opened up a very shiney new showroom for the Bell distribution.

They have but it is outside the airport perimeter.

This news just in is not helpful.

BBC News - Manston Airport: KLM airline 'will not return'

Lots of affection for the place but no serious operational offers.

Wonder what AG has in mind once the airport closes?

AG has it down as houses and shops. So one big building site!
Yes Heli-Charter are off airfield but if AG has her way they won't be able to operate as they would be surrounded by houses!

Helicopters dpn't need a 9,000ft tarmac runway, as the likes of North Denes, Penzance, Tresco, Cardiff (EGFC) demonstrate a short strip suffices, extend the strip to some 2,000ft and the flying clubs can utilise it also, that should put people off buying houses next door.

To use Plymouth as another example, the owners of that hoped to sell it PDQ for real estate but by all accounts it has become wrapped up in so much red tape it could take years of hearings and appeals etc.

Try wrapping Manston up in the same red tape they're using down in Devon, that should p1ss AG off

Did KLM finish this week?

How long has the 'consultation' left to run?

2 weeks to save Manston, says local MP:

BBC News - 'Two weeks' to find Manston Airport buyer says North Thanet MP

At least evidence that some ops continue, just saw an Atlas 744 departing on FR24 :-)

Sir Roger said: "Mrs Gloag made the point that she can't go on running an airport that's continually losing money.
Then why the f*ck did she buy it?

"The bottom line is that she wants to sell the airfield and if a buyer comes along in the timeframe - which is getting shorter by the minute - and can make a fair offer, she will sell."
"a fair offer" ... by who's interpretation?

To be fair, if I picked up a bargain for one pound when it might be worth a million or whatever I'm not likely to sell it for two pounds just to show a profit and keep the public happy, I'd want a realistic market value for it.

Several airlines have pulled out of the airport and taken their business elsewhere, including airline KLM which ran two daily flights to Amsterdam.

Newmarket Holidays, which offers flights to Verona and Naples in Italy, said it would move its Kent departures from Manston to Lydd Airport from June.
But there we have it, AG has seemingly made no attempt to sell the airport as a going concern, she's cut it's throat by announcing it's imminent closure and what few airline customers the airport had have buggered off.

What idiot is likely to offer big bucks for an airport that has few if any customers?

Potential Manston airport buyers in talks with owner today | Thanet Gazette

POTENTIAL buyers for Manston airport are in talks with owner Ann Gloag today, says North Thanet MP Sir Roger Gale.

The buyers, thought to be a consortium, visited the airport yesterday and had talks with Thanet MPs Sir Roger and Laura Sandys, keeping alive last ditch hopes of saving Manston.

Sir Roger said: “They visited the airport and met with myself and Laura. Discussions are now taking place with Ann Gloag. Myself and Laura are not privy to those discussions.”

Roger Gale says the present offer is from a 'reputable American' bidder - any ideas who this might be?

Would be a real shame. What would cost more: a new Thames Estuary Airport or a High Speed (HS trad. or Maglev) rail link to Manston?

Why would she want to sell it as an airport for next to nothing? With the government relaxing planning rules the land is worth millions. The woman appears to be ruthless and would have no qualms in making people redundant if she could increase her own personal fortune.

The big question is how would she deal with the airports tenants who occupy hangars etc?

Quote from the BBC
Manston's owners said on Sunday night: "The airport will consider any offer that is credible and viable."
Seeing she bought the airport for a £1 I wonder what she would sell it for?

Tenants just continue with their leases.

Site is worth more to the state by allowing building of a couple of thousand houses than as an underused airport.

But who are going to live in two thousand houses ..... Fish?

in such a sparsely populated area, and let's be honest that employment opportunities aren't fantastic in the area, why would anyone want to buy a house built on the former Manston aerodrome when they can buy a house overlooking the sea?

Many of the tenants need an open airfield to get aircraft in and out.

But who are going to live in two thousand houses ..... Fish?
Found this in under 2 minutes by Googling Ramsgate housing shortage

Linked to regenerating the economy, there are ambitious plans for housing growth in the region, with an additional 44,400 homes projected to be developed by 2026.

I read in the paper today that a house has to be completed ever 7 minutes just to house the Eastern Europeans that are coming over in their millions.

Doesn't such a sparsely populated area mean even more reason to shut an underused airport ?

As for looking for a place to buy, people will go where its reasonable as 2000 houses generates one hell of a lot of tax funding to the economy.

A house every 7 minutes is just over 75,000 a year - not many to house millions.

I'd get a better paper.
