If the airport is losing £10,000 a day you would think she would be keen to get rid of it but no all she wants to do is close the airport. Hidden agendas come to mind.

Doesn't such a sparsely populated area mean even more reason to shut an underused airport ?
I recall an airport in a sparsely populated area on the Essex/Hertfordshire border when Dan-Air would have a summer jet, Air UK would have some three Sheds, then a few freighters, some maintenance contracting, and that was pretty much it.

Did that give good reason to close Stansted?

LTNMAN.

May well be she already has a deal in mind with a developer for housing, and is now blinkered to that.

A real shame if thats what happens.

Manston Closing

We always seem to have public enquiries when a development for an airport is put forward why not one for the closure just to find out if there was/is a hidden agender.

THE American firm behind the rejected Manston airport offer has been named as RiverOak Investment Corp LLC of Stamford Connecticut.

One should be careful to ensure RiverOak is viewed accurately. They are there to make a profit primarily - fund managers in Conneticut are unlikely to have a particularly strong sympathy specifically to either employees at Manston or to spotters living in Thanet.

In complete agreement there.I see their offer resulting in no different ending to what is currently happening. Only difference is timescale.

Riveroak are developers - not airport specialists

Look at their website Real Estate Investments - RiverOak Investment Corp.

it's all about "normal" real estate

"We believe in scope and depth. Stephen DeNardo and George Yerrall bring a combined fifty-five years of national markets experience to bear on behalf of RiverOak investors. The Operating Principals have acquired, managed, underwritten, developed or provided capital with respect to over 320 million square feet of private real estate investing across the U.S., with expertise in medical, office, retail, residential and other sectors."

Closing is sad because there goes a lot of history and memories but sadly it is not the first and will not be the last.

...and of course all the companies base at Manston that will also be forced to close down. BBC News - Aviation firm fears for future if Manston Airport closes

Also AvMan Engineering Ltd that operate out of a purpose built hangar at Manston and maintain BA 146's. I wonder what will happen to them?
