2009 flights

I see that Newmarket and Seguro are starting to sell flights for next year. Anyone any idea if Seguro will fly to more than Majorca in 2009?

2009 Flights

A bit too early to say, but that said, Newmarket are listing a Madeira holiday from MSE for 25 Mar 09. I guess it's a case of watch this space.

Flight Promotion

Kent Escapes has announced a flight only fare promotion. The cost of a return flight to Palma, Majorca, from Kent International Airport , has been slashed to just £99 on every Friday in August.

Holidaymakers can jet off to the popular holiday island for 7 or 14 nights, and, true to the Kent Escapes policy of ‘the price you see is the price you pay’, the fare includes all taxes and charges.

Richard Burke, Managing Director of Kent Escapes, said: ‘We are delighted to offer the people of Kent these low cost flight only seats to Palma at the height of summer. We expect the demand to be very strong.’

(I suppose some posters will now be asking why all these seats aren't already sold )

The summer holiday flights were always going to be a struggle to fill because they went on sale too late - a lot of people would already have had their arrangements sorted out. The stats for May are very good though - average 172 pax per flight. June's figures aren't available.

Seguro seem to have got themselves sorted out in some respects though, Summer 09 is on sale already. Its pretty much status quo at the moment with Gran Canaria in for the summer holiday period again, though Majorca will operate all summer instead of stopping for the Scottish holidays in June/July.

AL

Still very short on advertising, and not considering the O.A.Ps some of us like to fly early summer or late summer, just to let the kids enjoy them selves,,Manston still remains a mystery,We need a carrier that will take a risk or two.HOW about long haul to the caribean, one a month ,you would fill with no trouble. If you dont have ago you will never know, flight only to alicante, lots of people own property out there

Have you really thought that through?

One destination, once a month? That doesn't give you a lot of choice when it comes to day and time of departure. And how are you going to get back home? Wait a month for the next flight?

Meanwhile, just down the road at Gatwick, you have multiple daily departures to multiple destinations in the Caribbean.

You need to be realistic. Airlines and tour operators are going to be risk adverse in the present economic climate. If Manston struggles to support a Mediterrainean tour programme, long haul is a non starter.

AL, however i must say i could'nt agree more on the advertising front, i find it incredible there is so little, and outside of Thanet its nearly non- existant.

Yes, it's a relative term.

Like it or not, Gatwick is not that really that far away from Ramsgate. Probably about a 90 minute drive. No great inconvenience when you consider the wide range of destinations and frequency of flights available.

Results of Survey

There is demand for commercial passenger flights from Kent International Airport according to a survey completed by nearly 11,000 local residents. The online survey undertaken on behalf of the airport found that 71% felt that scheduled commercial air passenger flights from the airport were very important. A further quarter of respondents felt that commercial flights were ‘somewhat important’ with only 2.7% considering them ‘not important at all’.

When asked whether they would use a commercial air service from the airport, 85.9% of respondents said it was very likely, and a further 10.7% felt it was ‘somewhat likely’. The time saving and locational benefits were seen as the top two advantages of Kent International, according to 91.3% and 86.5% respectively. 72.5% of the 10,673 respondents acknowledging that the return of passenger services would have local economic benefits.

"Kent International handled 1,088 tonnes of freight in July, up 6% on the July 2007 performance.

EgyptAir delivered an improvement of more than 50% against July 2007 and Cargolux also grew volume. These gains were offset by the absence of MK Airlines flights. Total year-to-date freight volume is 5% behind the equivalent period last year."

From what you say there is every sign of "long term planes", but that seems to be about all.

just a thought

The Mayor of London insists on building the Thames Estuary Airport as a future solution for London. How much would it cost? Some 11 billion pounds. Now, how long does it take to travel from London St. Pancras to Ashford on board of Eurostar train nowadays? Just 30 minutes. What if they decided to build a rail junction from, say, Charing to Chilham and to upgrade the present Chilham - Canterbury - Minster track extending it to the KIA terminal instead? If such a link were constructed, the fast-train travel from the centre of London to Manston would take less than 40 minutes. How much cheaper would it be if compared to the construction costs of a completely new airport?

Many say KIA is too distant to be considered as an alternative for London. Well, everything is relative, the distances too.

Expansion plans

There are a lot of signs of expansion, but with the airport management playing their cards close to their chest, we probably hear about things until they happen

Jersey Flights

An article in an on-line news site today states that Jersey flights from Manston will be available next year. The current flights are on average over 80% full and include not just flight bookings but holiday packages too.

High time that EDI and DUB were brought back too! These are two routes which could easily be sustained from MSE with the right equipment.

Southend provides a once weekly service on Flybe during the summer schedule to JER. There seems to be less people on it each year, I doubt that JER is as popular as it once was and at SEN the average age of the pax is about 65+. If this comes off you will be lucky if it is more than once a week. Do you not still get the BMI charters, at least SEN is held together by the daily Ford service.
