Monarch Airlines seeks 45 new aircraft | ATWOnline

Let's hope orders placed soon.

Crosswind Limits 17th Dec 2012 17:55

Let's hope so for all of us who are 'holding out'! ;)

PAPI-74 17th Dec 2012 18:35

This looks really exciting and I really hope that Monarch can show the others what good value and great service is all about....

mesh 19th Dec 2012 15:25

Update, going well...just under 30 million saved first year. Extra 8 aircraft this year coming, A321's with sharklets on way. Put out invite for bid of Boeing, airbus and bombardier, around 14 a/c to add to fleet. This would take us upto 50ish and rumour is we could even go upto 70. LH nothing changed, we have the 330's for 5 years but it was reiterated that to have LH worth its salt we need minimum of 6 a/c. 83 % I think scheduled now ....obviously future large recruitment depends upon the aircraft acquisitions.

No_AP_no_AT_no_FD 19th Dec 2012 16:04

Thank you Mesh! As always much appreciated.

Iver 19th Dec 2012 17:02

Interesting info Mesh.

What chance does Bombardier really have with Monarch for the C-Series? Clearly this would be Airbus's deal to lose given that Monarch already operates mostly Airbus aircraft - right?

Even though the C-Series would probably be a great aircraft to fly (new avionics with the ProLine Fusion and a clean-sheet designed aircraft), I see Bombardier as a negotiating tool in many of these Boeing/Airbus bidding wars... Take a look at this flight deck:

Too bad as I'd like to see the CS300 (~150 pax) in Monarch colours!!!!

mesh 19th Dec 2012 18:31

In addition to the 170-200 seating we are also looking at 150, I suppose it will depend on a whole host of things, new bases and routes, deals etc....we will know by March/April so not pie in the sky me thinks....

tom775257 19th Dec 2012 18:32

Plus... we are all getting given an Ipad :D

woolyalan 20th Dec 2012 16:36

The new C-Series looks epic... I want a go!

How long is a piece of string?
It depends on the fleet, base and season.

On the FBW which almost all new recruits are taken on for, you can expect to be busy in the summer 80-90 hours. Less so in the Winter plan on 40-60 hours.

Any voyage on these fleets is likely to be short term voyage to another UK base. There will be some, but it shouldn't figure too strongly in your fiscal planning.

Duty pay is taxed at your highest marginal rate on a fixed proportion of the amount received. Flying pay is fully taxed at your highest marginal rate. Salary is taxed in accordance with your own personal circumstances at the published rates.

Non FBW fleets (757/A300) can generally expect much lower hour utilizations in both Summer and Winter. There may be greater opportunities for voyage pay, but this is more than offset by the lower proportion of duty pay and flight pay resulting from the lower annual utilization.

Everybodies take home is going to be different, depending on their own circumstances, but these generalizations together with your own figures should help you do the math.

SEAMASTER 8th Jan 2013 17:28

Hi ask the tax man app will give you your net take home pay after tax, NI & pension contributions. £6.74/hr is taxed at 40%, £3.01 + £3.28 (voyage rate ie away from base) both take home approx .85p in the pound ie 15% is tax the rest is yours. The busy summer months you will do 85hrs + per month so you do the Maths 85x £6.74 less 40%, that is paid from push back to on chocks, the FDP is paid from check in to 1/2 an hour after chocks (£3.01 hr less your 15% tax ). Overtime (lots of it in the last few years) work on £300 take home after tax which includes both your flying pay (6.74) & your FDP(3.01) and you won't be far wrong, payments can range from 1-8 per month if you want it (we are only supposed to do two though : scheduling agreement but needs must mainly in summer ) so expect anything from (if your a first year F/O) £3300 upto £5000 + per month, there really is no exact figure to quote !!

Thanks POTC & Seamaster much appreciated....:ok:

It's all gone very quiet on this thread...

Has anybody recently heard anything at all? Be it positive or negative?

I'm hearing a few rumours of a few from the hold pool called up (t/rd). So I assume we're all playing the waiting game still?

Superpilot 23rd Jan 2013 01:21

Heard rumours that a load of CTC cadets got interviewed and then hired about a week after graduating. No justice in this world.

Serenity 23rd Jan 2013 08:10

Currently courses are running from last years recruitment, until April.
Think further is planned, but probably waiting for fleet announcements first.

This year Monarch have been more than fair. They could have filled the positions several times over with just Easyjet ready rated or CTC, but then took an equal balance of both of those and another third experienced unrated, a mix of turboprop, RAF and ex Baby crews.
All permanent full time contracts.
And not a single penny was charged for the rating given!!!!!

There's not many out there that can compare to this.

Some sound bitter that they didn't get through. I suggest that a company offering these deals to hundreds of pilots should get much credit.
Maybe the bitterness should be focused to the other airlines????

hobnobanyone 23rd Jan 2013 08:27

Serenity - thank you very much. I've also heard rumours that a bit of recruitment is possible later on this year - but equally, you never really know if you listen to rumours as to where it's all going to end up. I really just hope that the mix of people taken on continues should this be the case...

However...

Bearing in mind the news from a certain UK airline this morning, I think the list of experienced turboprop pilots looking for new jobs just got a bit longer.

clearofconflict 23rd Jan 2013 09:14

Hobnobanyone.......the redundancies are management and overhead staff....no mention of any pilot redundancies!!

Wellington Bomber 23rd Jan 2013 09:25

4 airplanes been sold, so 4 crews not required I would hazard a guess!

Superpilot 23rd Jan 2013 09:33

Serenity, if that was directed at me based on my above post then let me say I would like to be the first to acknowledge Monarch's fairness in this industry - something which they owe to nobody. However my frustration regarding cadets which I share with hundreds of others remains genuine. The main point in question being some have graduated after the recruitment campaign ended, but still ended up being interviewed and then hired. I don't want this thread to turn negative towards anyone and the general mood of this thread has remained positive so far simply because Monarch are an employer that earn respect through their actions. My application is still on hold status at this time so there is hope. :ok:

mesh 23rd Jan 2013 11:15

We will allways take a few last minute rated guys to fill up courses if some drop out to stay with our competitors. I don't know what this supposed intake of last minute CTC cadets is. As stated earlier the only cadets we have taken number around 30(some MPL), a third of this years recruitment. We will continue to take CTC cadets as from a business point of view they are a low cost, low risk, known entity, be it fair or not. Those in the hold list have not lost out to a stealth group. The good news is and again this is only my humble opinion, we will be recruiting another 60 plus guys later on in the year. I would expect interviewing to start in a couple of months once we are more certain of aircraft fleets. This would of course go hand in hand with my earlier prediction of aircraft numbering 50 plus. ps I would lay money on another 40 odd command announcements in the near future...good luck to you all

Crosswind Limits 23rd Jan 2013 11:36

Thanks Mesh! That could be good news for us Airbus rated and experienced guys in the hold pool! Here's hoping for me and everyone else waiting patiently!! :ok:

hobnobanyone 23rd Jan 2013 11:43

Mesh - thank you very much again. I know it's only an opinion, but actually with most of the BEE pilots today looking over their shoulders and shuddering a bit, any hint of information to suggest that we might not be staring into a abyss is greatly welcomed!!

Will continue to keep everything possible crossed that your opinion turns out to be correct!

Very many thanks...

Superpilot 23rd Jan 2013 12:30

Thanks Mesh

Phenom100 23rd Jan 2013 13:45

I had the following e-mail from Monarch today: (23/01/13)

Dear Applicant

We know it has been a little while since our last correspondence but I would like to update you on our current pilot recruitment programme.

Unfortunately, we have now finished recruiting for our 2012/13 Season, however your particulars will be kept in a holding pool and put forward for consideration for possible Summer 2013 recruitment. Once we have confirmation of our projection for further recruitment we will be back in contact with you but please be advised you may not hear from us until mid March 2013.

We would be grateful if you would advise us of any change of address or circumstances in the interim. Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your continued interest in Monarch Airlines.

Yours sincerely,

Phenom100 23rd Jan 2013 17:55

Just came out of the blue today, fingers crossed for us all.

JB007 23rd Jan 2013 19:52

Got that email over a month ago!

Dct_Mopas 23rd Jan 2013 19:59

Ditto, got that email 2 weeks ago or so.

mesh 23rd Jan 2013 22:16

That would tie in with the command board meeting March. Once the next chunk mentioned and a clearer idea on aircraft numbers. I would imagine we would split intake as before so hope for all out there...

Superpilot 15th Feb 2013 03:43

Ding dong

I know it's only mid Feb but any updates? ;)

woolyalan 15th Feb 2013 11:12

None here... but my heart jumps into my throat whenever there is an update on this thread!

I now need to go for a lie down to recover!

Superpilot 15th Feb 2013 12:27

Yeah me too. I must stop doing this to myself... :)

What Now 15th Feb 2013 13:20

Likewise, the antici........pation is killing me

mesh 15th Feb 2013 15:48

Latest I have heard is around 100 new FO's, starting to look in April. I think we are just going to hear about another 30 ish commands for this summer

Artic Monkey 15th Feb 2013 15:54

mesh

Do you know if they'll open recruitment again for those numbers or have they got enough from the last round etc?

Thanks

hardcase 15th Feb 2013 21:34

Isn't there loads of pilots in the hold pool for interview from the last online application??
