Actually there's not much to it:

1. put yourself on a mxp or fco waiting list
2. Wait...

The other mainland contracts are not far off the italian one except LIS

There are no grounds for protest. The solution would be to get PARC and CTC to recognise BALPA and to get the cadets to unite, that way I think better T's and C's could be organised.
I like the idealism. If CTC and Parc recognised BALPA I'm willing to bet the Easyjet Flexi-sh1t contract goes to (insert name of other large FTO and contracting company).

Both CTC and Parc don't give a toss what way pilot T&Cs are heading. Infact they thrive on what is happening now - Agency contracts, temporary positions and high turnovers.

Cadets will NEVER unite. They are generally ill-informed, naive and as someone suggested, part of the 'have it now' generation.

Senior crew will only unite if their own working conditions become unbearable and their bottom line is threatened. A few may huff and puff at council meetings, union committees and indeed pprune, however it generally amounts to the square root of fvck all. Your average Senior Captain/LTC/TRE is so far removed from your average cadet that they may as well live on seperate planets. In other words they don't give a stuff and will not jepordise their position by giving a stuff. Airlines are well aware of how this all works.

Well, it is a right to have representation by a union in the UK. With the current amount of flexi crew working for the same company, it might be a case that either Parc or CTC don't have a choice but to accept a union as long as there are enough uptakers.

With the current amount of flexi crew from CTC and Parc it won't be just a case of changing FTO.

Cadets will NEVER unite.
Not for want of trying, there are plenty of cadets keen for BALPA representation only to constantly be told by BALPA how difficult they would find getting CTC representation. Keeping track of the numbers is the top excuse.

Well, well, well. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's going on here...

No prizes for guessing who has dreamt this one up (who said Warwick Brady?) He's just bringing across all of Ryanair's best ideas.

First the massive expansion of flexicrew in the UK, then the crappy Portuguese t's and c's, now the closing of the Madrid base along with it's decent contract, and next Parc FO's across Europe as well...

It's a race to the bottom guys - who will get there first? It would be tough to challenge Ryanair to that title, but Ezy and the rest are certainly trying to catch up. There is no doubt that this is a huge threat to everyone currently working in easyJet - how much longer will we have to wait before we see contract Captains or flexi-cadet-Captain contracts. If we're not careful we are all going to sleepwalk into this one and by then it will be too late....

Time to update my CV then. I don't see Balpa doing anything about this one either...

Are BALPA really that bad? Why are members not demanding action? I thought the point of a union was to stop such malpractices. It does seem every airline CEO is trying to emulate the likes of Ryanair. If no action is taken I dread to think what the industry will look like in 10 years. Easy jet Pilots really should be pushing BALPA on this one.

Can anyone please tell me what the current situation is at Easyjet, are they currently hiring?

Sorry Paul, all recruitment is complete. They are now trying to work out how many temp staff they need to keep on for the winter period. You're better off trying to get a secured contract elsewhere IMHO.

No chance this winter. The last 2 CTC courses we taken on the understanding they are there for 8 months only. Not enough flying to go around this winter. Management aren't interested in permenant contracts either.

Not expansion, it is a redistribution of assets. LPL will be losing 3 aircraft and the MAD fleet will go elsewhere. To get a feel for how EZY are operating take a look at this presentation. Slide 7 mentions the LPL downsize.

A colleague of mine was positioning recently with Warwick Brady sat next to him down the back. Warwick stated that it was his aim that all easyjet flight deck were to become flexicrew, including current employed captains and fo's.

My only hope is that the new BALPA CC will have the balls to stop it.

WB is either poorly educated or as he is ex-FR, a firm believer of his own bullsh1t. The CAA, for one, would have a lot to say about such a proposition. Even the puppets that are the IAA refuse to allow FR to have a 100% contractor ratio. The CAA, in my opinion, have much more balls and would be lobbied hard by the likes of BA, Monarch, Thomson and others. Even BALPA might get their finger out of their posterior over this one.

Gentlemen,

I would suggest that you have a read of some of the recent Ryanair threads on here - where the discussions surround the ongoing use of contractors and how it is illegal to leave them in post for extended periods.

The use of contractors in this manner is known as 'disguised employment' by HMRC under IR35. Tax evasion - hence an illegal misuse of contractors.

Gentlemen like Warwick Brady are just chancers who have made a quick buck using a particular business approach - one trick ponies. A bit of research and a modicum of back bone usually marginalises said individuals...

Poose, the problem is that Easy are very aware that what Ryanair do is illegal. They took legal advice as they would have happily done the same. Hence 'flexicrew' was devised......which is legal. It achieves the same aim as Ryanair's Company contracting method....ie we pay for so many hours and no more.

Flexi Captains are on the way......

The agency workers directive that came out last October should ensure that agency workers that are employed for over 12 weeks are entitled to the same basic salary as if they were employed by the company (easyJet). How do they get away with breaching UK workers rights?

Parc currently do offer Flexi Crew contracts with a German base.
But that is not in line with German jurisdiction, which demands you cannot be self employed having only one customer ("Scheinselbständigkeit", fake self-employedness).
If they proceed and they are taken to court it is likely that easyJet will be found liable of hiring those folks.
So we lay back and watch then szene unfold...

Very happy to be away from Parc aviation. My experience was pretty shocking, including not being allowed to take any leave for my first year in the company (with a email from Parc stating that we were entitled to 0 days off) and never getting any response from the "responsible" person in Parc. We all developed a system of emailing once a week until we received a reply... sad really
I usually strongly agree with my colleagues but this time i want to spend just 2 words about Parc.
I'm one of the first Flexi which joined EZY and lucky enough to be on a perm now.
I can tell you that Parc with us was just great, straight and honest to the point they were kind of ashamed of the terms they were offering but when i joined times were different and the company was in deep Sh--it.
Sadly, they just do what they are asked and payed to do.
Even more sadly, ethic as we learn it when we are kids does not happen to be when we grow up.

Don't shoot the messenger!

Can Flexicrewers advise what their employment status is when dealing with PARC? Do you setup a Ltd company and invoice through the Ltd or declare yourselves self employed? And finally are you expressly prohibited from using an umbrella company of your choice? Thanks
