Timescale

Application submitted in April then an interview early June (waited the full 10 working days for a phone call), Sim early August (again waited the full 10 working days for a call). Offered a place in the hold pool then recieved a phone call mid september to be offered a position starting in Dec.

I understand from friends that the wait for the sim is about 3 months now, i think i was quite lucky to be able to take a reasonably early slot. When i recieved the phone call after the sim they did mention that people are pulled out of the hold pool based on the interview date and not the date that you do your sim or enter the pool.

Hope this is of some help

Howdy folks,

This could just be me being rather odd - but can anyone clarify exactly what it is BA are after licence wise.

The 1000 hours Turbo prop or 500 jet is clear enough
its when the line says

You will have a full UK issued JAA/CAA ATPL(F).

Now had they said a Full uk ATPL that would have been fine - but whats with the (f) bit on the end?

See now that is what i thought

But going onto the application you reach a question

Do you have a full JAA/CAA ATPL? (If you hold a non UK issued ATPL, you will be required to change the state of licence issue to the UK

Select no at this point, and your application will progress no further

Do you have either:

An ATPL(F) with at least 1000 hours recent experience on a turbojet/turboprop transport category aeroplane with a MTOM greater that 10 tonnes or an approved passenger seating configuration of not less than 20 passengers.

OR

A current type rating on either the Airbus A320 series or Boeing 737, with an ATPL(F) and a minimum of 500 hours recent experience on type.

Well if you ahve the Frozen ATPL with at least 1000 Hrs, then tick that box.

Then you move onto the second question.:

Apply Online
Thank you.
You will be asked to provide proof of your licences and log books should your application go through to the next stage. Please move on to the next question

Do you have a full JAA/CAA ATPL? (If you hold a non UK issued ATPL, you will be required to change the state of licence issue to the UK).

I would personaly tick yes, because you have declared in the first question that you have a FROZEN ATPL, but I am assuming that this question is asking if you have completed all the JAA/UK Ground Exams.

I am no expert, but maybe folks on here would be better to advise you,

Good luck.

Hi,

You are definately eligible to apply with a JAR Frozen ATPL as long as you have the required time on the correct aircraft.

A friend did, and he now has a job with BA

Cheers

Be slightly wary about the licencing requirements.

Ex-military pilots can apply WITHOUT any licence at all as long as they can prove they will have an ATPL(A)f at the time of contract issue.

I don't think this applies to pilots from other airlines who must input their licence number into the online application in order to proceed.

An ATPL(A)f is a CPL(A) with the ATPL theory exams completed. You can fly as FO with a Blue licence whilst waiting for the hours required to upgrade to the Green Licence. Which, incidentally, BA pays for!

Generally you will fly sector/sector about as PIC U/S so it doesn't take very long (approx 2-3 yrs) to rack up the required PIC U/S(1500 hours) hours for the upgrade.

Just wanted to post to say don't beleive everything on this board applies to your situation/circumstances.

Good luck

Licence Requirements

Guys/gals,

Just to clear this one up. You DO NOT need a full/unfrozen licence (ie a GREEN book) to apply to BA as a DEP. That's what I think they mean when they say a 'ATPL(F)'.

The wording "You will have a full UK issued JAA/CAA ATPL(F)" is a little ambiguous I feel: basically you need a minimum of JAA CPL and ATPL exam theory credits, which you surely must already be in possession of to have flown an aircraft >10tonnes/20 seats! (as stated in the requirements too).

A further tip when applying, the program asks if you have 'Performance A' - I understand this was the old exam before the JAR exams came into being, I didn't have this but had the JAR 'Performance' exam credit - tick yes and you will be fine.

SNAM: Sorry, but I think your information is incorrect.

Good luck to all applying.

Guys,
Thats all well and good - the problem arises when you click apply now
You eventually reach a question asking
Do you have a full JAA/CAA ATPL? (If you hold a non UK issued ATPL, you will be required to change the state of licence issue to the UK
Now if you click no - you are told you dont meet the requirements. I wouldnt suggest people lie at this stage of the application

FunFlyin - interesting point.
SNAM - fair cop, 'guv!

Well I wouldn't suggest people 'lie' either. But, myself and many others have got through without having a full, unfrozen ATPL. You have to take your licence and log book to selection day but they don't send you packing if it's a blue rather than a green book. Everyone there on the day with a CPL has been through the online application, haven't they....do what you need to do.

If you are worried about not answering the question honestly, consider this:
If you click 'no', your application is terminated. If you click 'yes' and by some streak of misfortune someone deep inside BA recruitment finds out you have 'lied' after being through selection, along with hundreds of other people, are they going to terminate you then? Answers on a postcard....

As stated in an earlier post, I recently went to Cranebank for the assessment day but was “inexplicably” unable to convince BA of my myriad charms. So a couple of questions for those who reapplied after a year;

The rejection email says you can’t reapply for another year whereas the current requirement asks “have you applied in the last 11 months”. Does anyone know when the clock starts ticking? When you submitted your initial application, date of interview, date of rejection email? And is it a year or 11 months?

Also, does anyone know what happens on a second go with the "application questions" on the on-line form? Are you required to give entirely new answers, even though your original ones were accepted?

I attended recently and our group was told that for anyone not successful the wait to fill out the online application is 11 months which means 12 months plus before a second assessment.

Has there been any DEP recruitment onto the 777 recently (presume the 744 is all internal fleet changes).Only asking since I am a Capt on a 146 and have been all over Europe and the thought of more European short haul flying in the right seat doesn't appeal!
