kurimaw: i agree 100% with c1052. stay away from this forum. you do not understand what is being discussed here. you are in a different world as those who post here are. it is like making a grade 3 pupil attend a subject in philosophy. i am not putting you down. i believe that you do not just understand what you read bec you do not have the experience yet. you are not even a DODO. i was 1 way way back & believe me you do not understand what a DODO is unless you bec 1.
go on pursue your dream of being a pilot & do not mind us guys in this blog. this forum might be too toxic for you.

kurimaw: before we loose you into oblivion, pls tell me how you stumbled into this forum in the first place?
i admire your resourcefulness. but there's a lot to be learned boy. what you read here is not what they seem to you.

camper: give him a break. we need entertainment once in a while. he may learn by sheer guts.

starflyer: if we have nothing to do, we do it here; just like how the old pilot saying goes...hahahaha.

Kurimaw is taking a break from the thread. Despite many suggestions to begin his own thread he won't. Worked on him for 5 months before taking this action.

He can read this thread so he still gets the feel of the various opinions and comments on PAL.

Regards
Rob

Kurimaw, take a breather dude! Find another forum where you can vent your idiosyncratic sentiments about aviation. Do not muddle your virgin thoughts and innocent mind with what you read here. This thread is no place for idealist wannabees like you. Your posts, while sometimes entertaining, often border on the absurd, and it gives me the creeps when I read them. While you claim to have only the best intentions, don't try to sound like you're a f@#$ing hero. As a fledgling wannabee, you still dont have that wisdom to start questioning the opinions of others who have seen the dark and brighter side of flying. Been there, done that. Come back when you are ready to face and accept the harsh realities of this marvelous job.

i agree!

kurimaw this is not the site for you... for now... hehe

i was also quite active in this site first half of 2007 when i was looking for an aviation school to transfer to... i am an ex-UP student (taking up an engineering degree)... but my passion for aviation got the best of me, some guys here gave me excellent advice! i transferred to Air Link and pursued a bachelor's degree in Avionics Technology, planning to pursue flying school after graduation... but who knows... i think im already happy with my current course... hehehe after all, im that person who leans more to the technical side of life... but im not closing doors....

pursue ur dreams, some of the issues discussed here are hard to fathom... dont let them get thru u. i gave up my UP education just to pursue my passion and my dreams... i hope i dont have regrets... hehehe

mentor

hey there kurimaw..

Every wanabee pilot needs a mentor... shows him/her the ropes sort of speak. Gives advice on which route to take or not to take..avoid expensive mistakes or even accidents.

I think finding someone to mentor you in this stage of your flying career is a good way to start.

Walk before you run..never mind about the glass cockpit of the airbus or its auto thrust systems... lets get to the basics and learn about basic flying and aerodynamics.

If you need someone to mentor you or someone to do some ground work with you..PM me...i'll be more than happy to help..

why?? the facial expression on a student learning how to fly and completing his/her first solo is priceless...

ICAO english language proficiency test

hi there guys,

Just a quick question. Has anyone of you here already did and passed (level 4) the ICAO aviation english test? Cause a lot of guys in here are really worried about this test cause no one knows what to expect and how it works. Apparently all member states have been given until march 5, 2008 to fulfill these requirements.

Thanks
A6

Alpha6,

I did My Aviation english test last July 07. I passed it and was given a Level 4(good for 3 years). Its a computer based examination divided into two parts, First part is a series of test that will involve Grammar, spelling, Listening test and reading comprehensions. The Second part of the test is a phone conversation on a computer generated voice(U.S. of A. based station), and this phone conversation goes also with a series of test like Grammatical composition, Memory retention, Reading( checking your Pronunciation and diction), and lastly is the Extemporaneous speech about some topics to be launched by the computer generated voice. And you get only 20 Seconds to answer it.

This will seem easy, but not quite. We had plenty of Pilots who failed the Computer generated exam, because of Grammatical errors , memory retentions etc.
So, guest what EK did? They hired People to check the Pilots at the briefing center by listening how they speak and converse with the other crew.(Now, this I would say is very Subjective and is very unfair.) All they have to do now is to look at the Color of the Skin and hoorah! here is your Level 6 English test result. Not a fair fight at all.

Dont worry about it too much Alpha just do it now, it will be gone and forgotten even before the time for your English Renewal comes.

Cheers,
C1052

Thank you C1052 for the details. Did you do the test with jeppesen or RMIT? I agree that it is turning to a skin color type of test now and most of the whites are somewhat complaining about doing this cause I believe there are 2 seperate tests for native and non-native speakers. With regards to EK or your present company, do you need to obtain a higher rating on your next english renewal to be operational?

Cheers

Alpha,
To be honest, I have no idea whether its jepps or RMIT? i dont even know what RMIT is...

As far I know, there is only one test for both a native or Non native english speaker.

You only need Level 4 to be operational. No need to surpass it the next time.

Etihad Roadshow in MNL

I've heard that the Etihad Roadshow in MNL pushed through as planned last Feb. 4 at Mandarin. My sources said less than 10 applicants attended including 3 from PAL and 2 ex PALers. Elvie wasn't there or at least wasn't seen in the vicinity of the hotel. The presenters were the head of flight crew recruitment (a pilot) and one fron HR (non-pilot). Discussed were everything concerning Etihad employment, from the financial package to housing, educational subsidy and even living in AUH. No interview took place; they just collected the applicants' papers and scheduled some for interview in AUH. More power to the applicants.

bansai: i hope these pal pilots are not just talking the talk but will also walk the walk. usually the quiet ones are the people who act. the noisy ones are just that: noisy.
