Well I just got my FAA license validated by ATO and after a long struggle I just recieved my dual citizen ship and passport.

I really want to fly for PAL and I have been given the suspicous eye that I might treat them as a training ground but that is far from the truth. I was born in the USA and love the Philippines. There has always been the desire to return. I am thinking about holding my application and building more experience back in the US with a Reigonal (Republic Airways, ASA, Expressjet etc.) then reapplying with PAL.

Does that sound like a better plan? I know they are in the process of turning around the culture to operate more like its American counterparts.

Thanks alot for your help guys!

Hi Jollibee,

PAL will surely ask for a Bond, just like what they asked from one guy holding an aussie license. He did not push through.

Stay in the U.S., get the time and then go to the Middle east, there are lots and better oppurtunities around here. Nice and shiny jets too, not to mention they're Brand new(most of them, not kidding). And if you want to try some of the latest stuff in Aviation, this is where to be. You cannot imagine how this People are spending money for their Airlines.

jolibee flyer: congratulations on your ATO validation & dual citizenship.
your expressed love for your home country is admirable. you might as well try out pal just to see how your country is doing. pal is much like a small philippine setting.
that is if you are willing to put out a real estate or cash bond.
but beware as amboys like you are not only viewed with suspicion bec of your FAA license but are also viewed as "can afford"/fresh bec of your amboy ways. this is the kind of prejudice that you might encounter in such insular setting.
one guy amboy mike who has been around a long time in pal just got such treatment. poor guy was sacked as sim/line instructor just bec he critisized the trng. ways in the A320 division.
good luck.

PAL

yeah, I heard about some sort of bond from PAL, but was not too sure about what they wanted. Can anybody tell me what they exactly want?

I want to get as much information about PAL before committing alot of myself to PAL. Is it worth the time now or should I wait until PAL improves down the road?

Thanks alot guys

Jollibee,

Have you tried applying with PAL already? Its better to do that and get your infos straight from them.

Or do you have the minimums to qualify?

there you go amboy jolibeeflyer.
pal will always make the conditons vague. during our time when we ask for the black & white copies of the terms in the newly introduced training contracts we were given a cold treatment by the staff assistants. their logic is if you really want to go thru with the training you will not be asking so many questions.
so in short after the training the flt. ops staff assistant will casually hand you over the contract & tell you to sign it. when i told her that i will show it first to a lawyer before i sign she immediately reported me to the vp: ayaw ko raw pumirma (staff reported for refusing to sign the contract).
that's a preview of things to come.
in short they want you to commit first before they tell you the whole rule of the game. they have this mentality that pal is the only game in town & every pilot would die for a job in pal.
the world has changed my boy.

bond

jollibee,

i was asked a cash bond or a property bond from pal. the amount is equal to the training cost.

the cash bond is put into an escrow account (sort of) and held there until your contract is fulfilled. the property bond is similar where there would be a lien on the property. the lien is held on the property in lieu of the training cost. the lien would then be removed when your contract is also fulfilled. the contract is for 3 years. this info was from around October 2007.

thanks for the citizenship info

Jollibee,

Goodluck to you, and on your career with PAL.
Always keep in mind the PAL antics.."Yes, Sir! No, Sir! Cant afford , Sir! I'll try to find out, Sir! "
Be the lowest mammal in town, No S/O or F/O is smarter than the Captain. And never, never call them by their First Names. Its never like in the States, wherein you can call them Buddy or Pare for that matter( unless, you are really buddies).
Try to know the Hierarchies inside PAL, some office assistants have more authority than pilots,so watch your words at all times.
Try to know who your friends are, dont entrust your secrets to anybody so easily, unless you wanted people as far as SFO, LAX or YVR know your well hidden secrets.
I hope My words isnt scaring you away, but I have to say as well that though there are mean people around PAL, there are also People who are really kind hearted and such a blessing to have known.

Cheers,
Cessna

Dj,

Yes, you are still qualified, you can even wear corrective lenses. Just be sure you are not Color blind.

When will this stupidity stop? Are there still old school farts in the line that allow this crap?

Freaking airline thinks they are the only outfit in town.

Thank you guys for the info about PAL. PAL isn't my only choice but the first one who would entertain me. I am thinking about CebuPac and the other guys in town. But it might come down to applying for those guys later down the road.

I heard about the culture in PAL and heard from a Pilot friend that they are trying to adjust the culture but I don't know how long and when that may occur. It's alot more different here than I though it would be.

The Philippines is a great country and I feel like I truly belong here. Not to mention that the women here are 10 times better than the ones in the states.

if you have 3 or 5 years to spare

jolibee flyer: do you have the financial capability & the 3 to 5 years to spare? now i am assuming that you are in your 20's.
try out pal & enjoy the circus while you are there.
you can get the rating & experience & hopefully get your cash bond back. on the cash bond i am assuming again that they will not invent another magic trick to keep you from leaving.
yes my peers way back said the same thing about changing the culture/practices we did not like but lo & behold they exist until today.
usually people who were victims just repeated the same things they were complaining about. and i am not talking about mgt pilots who complained when they were in the line.
and about the girls: pal culture is new pilot ladies' man equals attitude problem- therefore "mahina lumipad" (poor flying skills). you will learn when you are there.
it is a circus as i said.

Stupid People for a Stupid Company

Jollibee, you must be the most desperate mother f...ker! But hey respect... coz if you are a willing to get your ass cleaned out by a bunch of assh..les... be my guest!!

I'm trying to lure people out of the worst paid pilot job in the world to make PAL realize how badly they treat them and there are still idiots willing to take their place. What the?

If you have the cash for a type rating... go somewhere else! At least you will be treated like a human instead of forcing yourself to be the LT's biatch.

Just remember when some old capt says,'kaya ko'! you should pray because you will die... The alternative is to force him to do a Go Around, or worse take over and then your life will truly be over. The lies and innuendo will make your life hell at PAL. CRM is probably the worsed in the world. Don't just believe me... do some research on the A320 accidents last year!

I invite anyone to tell me I am lying.

With all do respect planestupid, I wouldn't count me as a desperate "such". I am very well aware of the current state of PAL and the changes that they are currently undergoing.

As for me, regionals in the USA is a second option that I am currently keeping open as well as retuning to being a flight instructor for the time being.

PAL is on the top of my list; a very short list of airlines to pursue my aviation career. But it is more than just PAL, it's about getting to know my roots here in the Philippines and appreciating the culture and people.

I know there are many who would say that I am crazy, but in my early 20's and more than 1,000 hours time in Beechcraft and Piper aircarft, there are no real pretty options for me. Flying for PAL would be like flying for a US regional. You have to start somewhere.

if you really want to go.

step 1.

pay homage to the most powerful empress queen. the throne room is located behind the first door to your right when you enter the flight operations department building.

it is highly recommended that you come with at least half a dozen different signatures on the margins of your resume. this will give you a chance of being given a bit of kindness. you will need all of that.

goodluck and may the force be with you.
