overmars 4th Jul 2011 15:55

No change. Just be grateful they haven't reduced it!

Alchemist123 12th Jul 2011 03:56

next obs

Hi all, does anyone have any idea when the next OBS will be held?
I believe there was one conducted in May 2011.

Yantz 12th Jul 2011 04:03

No Idea, but I have been waiting since the 25th of March when I attended the medical.. Still no call yet

Alchemist123 12th Jul 2011 04:26

Hi, that's actually quite some time already. The medical is only valid for max 3 months before the onset of your OBS right?
Do you know if anyone from your medical batch has started on the course? Btw, have u called up CAAS board to enquire on your results?

axewhy 14th Jul 2011 15:01

Dear saxmachine05!

Were you successful in your application? Can I know the contact number of SQ HR department?

flight86 18th Jul 2011 05:00

Hi anyone got called for 2nd round recently? I was told by the interviewer it takes about 2 weeks..

Alchemist123 19th Jul 2011 06:14

Hi, yup, for me it took about 2 weeks plus from the first interview, and that was last month.
All the best!

mynameisjon 19th Jul 2011 16:14

what does it say in your status now?

flight86 20th Jul 2011 02:39

It says interviewing.. I got a friend that went for the first round recently but got a rejection email already..(less than a week)
I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything.. Hmmm

Alchemist123 20th Jul 2011 06:30

flight86, i believe in general, the rejection email after the 1st interviews comes quite quickly (within a few days).

Hence i would say if u still did not receive anything after a week plus, there's a decent chance u r safe. But of course, there are the exceptions too.

Anyway, gd chance now to find out more about the tougher qns posed to u in the first interview, in case u get called up for round 2 :ok:

mynameisjon 21st Jul 2011 13:56

I've been waiting for 6 weeks already lol.. I think I need to make other plans.

I'm just wondering if it's because I'm not 24 yet.

Maybe they just forgot to reject me lol

Stallone 21st Jul 2011 15:30

remember to check your junk mail

yannisoar 22nd Jul 2011 05:17

SIA HR Number

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone can PM me the number to the HR department? I tried calling them on one of the numbers that I found online but apparently it was the public relations department of SIA. The lady then gave me another number which I tried but no one seems to be answering it.

Cheers
yannisoar

mynameisjon 22nd Jul 2011 16:21

status just changed to blank.. guess its time to move on..

jber 24th Jul 2011 06:40

Is it true that for Singaporeans, applications fly the national carrier can only be done above the age of 26?

Stallone 24th Jul 2011 07:13

yeah, stated clearly in the requirements

well unless you're not liable to serve NS

jber 24th Jul 2011 07:24

What if you already served NS?

Stallone 24th Jul 2011 07:48

still, 26yrs old requirement

some say if you've been rejected by RSAF, you might stand a chance applying before 26

but that is just rumours, no one can confirm

jber 24th Jul 2011 10:05

Why is it then that we have 20 year olds and 23 year olds applying for them like in this page? Just wondering haha. Anyway I heard that you can only apply for sia once. Rumour says that if you get rejected you can't apply anymore. True?

Alchemist123 25th Jul 2011 14:55

Seems that they are fine with giving a second chance to those who didn't make it through the first round interview.
Many people (including myself) in this forum managed to get a second try.

There seemed to be an earlier discussion about the Application/Blank status earlier. Just to share my experience on it - I had my first attempt last year, and didn't make it past the first interview. By right, the waiting period before re-application was 6 months, but I 'by left' managed to re-apply 3 months later. My status then turned blank, and remained that way.

On the 6th month, I withdrew my application and re-applied again, and this time it got through and I was called up for an interview subsequently.

Hence I believe the blank status is indeed a form of rejection. However, there could be various reasons (eg. person is not yet 26, not yet past the 6 months window period etc), and once u clear the required waiting time, do try again and there will be a second chance. I even heard there was someone who got in only on his 4th attempt.

All the best to those trying!:ok:

Alchemist123 25th Jul 2011 15:39

I am wondering what's the average duration like between receiving email acceptance, till the time u receive contract? Hope those who have experience can share it here.

jber 28th Jul 2011 16:56

And can I just ask, you apply with a PPL or anything?

Alchemist123 31st Jul 2011 14:01

Nope, I didn't apply with a PPL, and no prior experience with flying

jber 31st Jul 2011 14:09

Guess you are waiting for a reply now? But you are 23 aren't you?

Alchemist123 1st Aug 2011 01:22

jber, I was already given a course date.
Hm, do u think I'm 23 cos my nickname ends with a "23"? heh, I'm actually quite a few yrs older than that. (>26)

SFC172N 3rd Aug 2011 04:37

willardlow 3rd Aug 2011 15:57

jund013 4th Aug 2011 04:08

Hi there,
When we send reply to Joyce, does she actually reply back to confirm that she has received your email?
Thanks

Dmits 4th Aug 2011 06:44

Envy sia(hokkien, not singapore airlines!) haha.. well for myself, I got rejected after waiting for two weeks after my first interview, status suddently changed to blank. Anyone had a similar experience like I did?

Kurai 4th Aug 2011 07:37

I am going for the first interview scheduled on 5th August. Best of luck to all!

kinkykin 4th Aug 2011 16:42

hey Alchemist123! are u going for the aug 22 obs?

SFC172N 4th Aug 2011 16:46

Yea, 23 gg 24 this year in a mth.
And Joyce did reply a short email after I confirmed my attendance, left 2 weeks to prepare.... Anything that I should note of?

Alchemist123 5th Aug 2011 03:06

jund013,
there may be a reply, or there may not be.
I have applied twice, and I got a reply only once. So no worries even if u did not get any reply after u confirmed ur attendance for the interview.

Dmits,
I know of someone in this forum who saw a blank status a few weeks after his first interview, and he was called up for second round shortly after it turned blank.
Hence, there could still be some hope, since u did not receive any rejection email.

Kurai,
All the best!:ok: When u see this ur interview is probably over. Hope all went well.

Kinkykin,
Heys! I'm going for the OBS in 26 Aug. Are you going too?

LieDetector 5th Aug 2011 08:56

any of you guys who recently went through cadet program can you shed some light on the salary during training, second officer and once you get selected as a first officer?
What about accomodation?

mynameisjon 5th Aug 2011 09:18

Salary is well known.

Non-recognised Degree = the take your second highest qualifications.

A Levels - $500
Diploma (Local Poly) - $900
Recognised Degree (can be PhD also same) - $1200

All subject to CPF.

Once you finish your CPL it goes up to $1900

I believe when you finish your fleet conversion and are online as a second officer, it's $2500 + allowances.

LieDetector 5th Aug 2011 09:24

thanks for those figures

I have a Masters and a CPL

Guys with cpl how long does it take for them to get your ATPL?

Stallone 5th Aug 2011 09:40

i think second officers only get a basic pay, you don't get any flight pay, is that accurate?

Kurai 5th Aug 2011 13:17

Just went for my interview today. As we took our place and registered our documents, tension was in the air. One of the candidates was trying hard to chat up the senior cadets who were helping us register, while the others were holding their silence in intense focus. I chatted a little with a few of the other candidates as we were waiting. One by one the candidates were called in, and as they left, their expressions were somber and their posture tired. Soon it was my turn.

I went in this small interview room, and there were these two senior pilot captains there. One was a British, who joined SIA for 16 years, the other was a Singaporean, who was a retired pilot now with the training school. Not much ice breaker, basically just asked "how was your day today?" and then they dived straight into the interview questions. They asked all sorts of questions, from HR to Business to Engineering to flying. The entire session felt like it was over in 10 mins, but when i checked the time after that, i realized half an hour had passed.

Their faces were enigmatic, I couldn't tell at all whether my answers were met with approval or not. At the end of the interview, they offered me my chance to ask questions and I left. Oh dear, I don't know how my chances measure up!

kinkykin 6th Aug 2011 16:30

@ Alchemist123 yup im gg for the same obs as u. trying to get all the things done from the package that they sent. u know of anyone else who is in this course? all my friends were in the previous course of the previous previous course.
