Could it be perhaps that SIA removed the 26 year old rule? Seems like more and more people who are 23-24 yrs old are getting interviews.

I dunno whether cos of Jetstar Asia's cadetship? I went for the roadshow for jetstar. For a sg male, you can go for the course as long as u complete NS; and they took in a 23 yr old guy the previous batch who's currently undergoing training.

Isn't jetstar also under the regulation of CAAS? Then won't there be any directive or such about letting rsaf have priority over commercial flying? I'm thinking that they have finally relaxed on that rule?

bloodsucker 9th Aug 2011 18:24

Oh, and by the way for those who are interested (might be a little inappropriate posting it here), Tiger Airways might be having their own cadet pilot scheme maybe some time next year or in the near future as well.

Bryan Way 10th Aug 2011 07:04

SFC172N 14th Aug 2011 08:51

Wish you all the best!! Hopefully there will be more slots for cadets due to incoming 773ER (8 more on firm order) and 335 + 388 !!

TheMacallan 14th Aug 2011 14:05

Hi,

would like to ask what is the chance of a guy armed with a diploma getting into SIA? I have tried for the rsaf but did not get a answer.

Does anyone in SIA heard of a pilot with diploma, or almost everyone had a degree.

Your answers & replies is much appreciated.

thanks in advance~:ok:

purplehearts 15th Aug 2011 13:52

Hi SFC

Are you an airforce reject or Malaysian?

Kenaph 15th Aug 2011 16:00

Hello

Hey guys, anyone schedule for first rd on 26 aug?

Dahawk 15th Aug 2011 20:08

Hi SFC,

I was wondering if you are able to provide more details about yourself? Eg, are you a singaporean citizen, chopped from the force or previous flying exp? age 23 going on 24, highest qualifications?

I think i might be in the same boat as you, and considering to apply.

If its not convenient to post here, maybe you can PM me?

mynameisjon 16th Aug 2011 04:53

@dahawk

Just apply. the only cost of the application is the cost of an ishihara colour blindness test with a snellen vision test.

I'm also 23 going on 24, and I got called up for both interviews. No airforce background at all.

purplehearts 16th Aug 2011 14:47

you 23 year olds are degree grads?

Kurai 17th Aug 2011 00:33

John, are you with SIA now?

blackbird93 17th Aug 2011 05:18

Final interview

Anyone here who didnt make it past the second interview but was given another chance to go through the whole selection process again? :hmm:

mynameisjon 17th Aug 2011 05:53

nope.. I was told after my second interview that my application was still under review. I have no idea what that means though...

SFC172N 17th Aug 2011 08:00

Hey Jon, I guess they are considering or waiting for your medical ?
You got call for round 2 and medical on diploma? It kinds of give me some hope.

mynameisjon 17th Aug 2011 08:22

didn't go for medical. you call after the second interview to find out if you need to.

yup diploma.

blackbird93 17th Aug 2011 10:10

final interview

I recall reading somewhere in this forum that some who failed on their final interview were given a second chance to undergo the whole interview process all again. Anyone with similar experience? :ugh:

I do not know where you read it. It may be true in the past but not for now. Year 2011 is no longer 2010.

Let me share with you the latest update from now onwards (17 August 2011, 10.46p.m.). Once you failed your final interview, that's it! You will not get second chance anymore.

Kurai 17th Aug 2011 15:58

Anybody went for 2nd interview today?

Tmr will be the judgement day..

Kurai 18th Aug 2011 01:41

I wasn't attacked by many tech questions, my interview was about 25 minutes, only 5 minutes about tech, 20 minutes about myself, my background, my family.

So here's the question, very common, explain how does a jet engine work? phew!

SFC172N 18th Aug 2011 03:27

Kurai, hope you'll get good news soon!! :ok:

Kurai 18th Aug 2011 03:54

Going for medical check up tmr phew!!

Gonna wait for a long time after medical check up right.. from what i read from this thread, call back after 5 days to check if I am cleared? then wait for SIA's decision after that.. this will take the longest, right? any idea how long i should wait for?

I need to give 2 months notice.

SFC172N 18th Aug 2011 14:38

WOW!!

Congrats kurai!!

Alchemist123 19th Aug 2011 09:52

Kurai,
congrats! yes, you are right in what you mentioned about the waiting time. For my case, I waited for about 3-4 weeks since my medical before I got the confirmation email.

Kurai 19th Aug 2011 16:33

Thanks guys!

Well, i am not too happy just yet. Haven't passed the medical.. so not much hope yet =)

yea, i guess i give myself one month waiting time.. if not i shall make a call.

Sq_777 19th Aug 2011 23:27

Ask

Hi all,
Does anyone know whether medical checkup is included dental checkup or not?
Thanks.

purplehearts 20th Aug 2011 07:07

Hi kurai!
Would u mind sharing details abt ur o levels, degree results as well as CCAs?

Kurai 21st Aug 2011 09:49

Hi, there's no dental check up =)

They are not looking for scientist or scholars, but pilots. Doesn't mean that if you have 3 As and another person got 6 As, he will get in and you won't.

Most importantly is, when SIA HR looks at your results, they must have the confidence that you have the calibre to get through the intense studying required for ATPL.

Based on what other ppl had said before, the minumum requirement is bla bla bla, you can check the previous posts. Anything more is just a bonus but not critical.

Good luck to you, and to me!

Sq_777 21st Aug 2011 18:12

Thanks Kurai. All the best for you :D

mynameisjon 21st Aug 2011 19:03

@purplehearts: as long as you fulfill the minimum requirements of the job posting, (of course hopefully you are not boderline everything D7), I believe that you can get an interview.

What matters is the impression you make during the interview.

As a pilot I believe you need the following qualities:
1. Willingness to learn, because aviation is an ever changing industry and the cockpit is an environment where nothing is constant. You are always learning.

2. Willingness to conform (to a certain extent). Airlines are all about SOPs. The Airline needs to know if you can stick the the rules.

3. Integrity. By this I mean don't lie in your resume. They will know. Pilot licenses are also tied to your driving record. One drink driving incident and your license is 99% RTO.

4. Ability to lead. Because at the end of the day you're being trained to command a crew of an Airliner.

Stallone 22nd Aug 2011 00:07

good points :D:D

davis256 22nd Aug 2011 14:14

Hello

Hey me sheduled on 26 aug also

SFC172N 22nd Aug 2011 19:36

About that 26 yo rule,

Airline Pilots Association - Singapore -

don't know if it still holds true or if there are exceptions in certain situations.
On the other hand there are still ppl 23 or 24 applying like myself.
